Though I do think yes because people who WoWquit will most likely comeback, at the same time if people arn't already into WoW and prefer War3 they probly wont change go to WoW even with the Xpac because most likely they have 1. Tried it and didn't like it or 2. Don't want to continously pay fees, MMORPG's (Mostly men online RPing as girls tbh) arn't everyones thing and alot of people still prefer to stick to the RTS's

Though on the Sc2 subject, if anything thats probly going to wreck WoW : P

benx_x is right, there are so many men playing females, but they don't RP, so I don't see a problem. I wonder what the ratio of sex playing WoW is? I would guess much higher for male, I don't personally know any girls that play.

I counter your argument with how many girls play men

Seriously. Look at fandoms like Naruto or something. Hordes of fangirls descend upon the RP and destroy the characters, removing all characterisation and leaving just a husk which then sexes up every other male in a twelve mile radius

I RP several girls on WoW. And several males. It ain't anything special

Like I just said. If you start acting like a girl on it, then I find it awkward to say the least.

No! Did TBC drove them away? No!

And no, SC2's editor also won't drive them, because:

a) If it's different from WC3's one, no modder will change to a new, unknown editor
b) If it's WC3-like, what's the difference between them? Only that - for the WC3's worldedit there's a huge ammount of recources, and for SC2's there are not. And if WC3's can be used in SC2's, the won't fit in style.

To say "no modder" is a strong statement. I doubt you meant none will, but that most won't. I think most people who stay will be because thier computer won't be able to handle it. If it can I would imagine you would want to because of the (hopefully) better WE.

SC2 will take a huge chunk of the modding community. Chances are, its editor will be fancier, easier to use, and will just offer a much wider array of possibilities. Worst case scenario, SC2 just plain sucks and everyone stays, but that's improbable. When has Blizzard led us astray in RTS's before? Sure, people will play just for the sake of medieval stuff (that might be moddable though), but most of the people play for the moddability, which SC2 > WC3 at, probably.

I'm a huge Civilization III fan and there are still new mods, maps and scenarios for CivIII, eventhought that 3 new Civilization games (Civilization 4 and 2 addons) have appeared. And Civilization 3 is from year 2001.
As with Starcraft, but do you honestly think that no one has moved on to the next game? It's inevitable that a huge chunk will emigrate from Wc3.

Hm... Currently in CFC there's a big fight between the Civ4 and Civ3 fans and the interesting fact is that we haven't noticed any fan that moved from Civ3 to Civ4. Yes, there are people who play both games, but all of them still preffer Civ3.
1. Have you interrogated all of them? Then don't say all.
2. I don't really care about a franchise and whether or not its sequels suck. We're talking about Blizzard, who has stolen modding communities from one game to another before. If SC2 comes out, most of the modding community will at least get SC2. If it sucks, they might not move. The most likely scenario is that they will. I've already said this before.

WoTLK is completely irrelevant to Wc3's community. It's far less new-player friendly than TBC was so I don't see it having much effect.

The only people who will play Wc3 after SC2 comes out are:

- Stubborn fantasy lovers
- People with really shitty computers

To even suggest SC2 will be of less quality than Wc3 just shows how naive you really are.

I just lumped people like that with the "stubborn fantasy lovers".

I hate sci-fi, but Starcraft has a special place in my heart. :)

I'm not too sure we can be certain about that, but if this is so, then the modding community will definitely bite into this game.

I too am skeptical about everyone saying that a hero system will be pre-implemented for modding. I am pretty up-to-date on my SC knowledge and I don't ever recall any official word on this. The closest thing I can find to them mentioning anything about heroes is this:

What is the role of heroes in StarCraft II? Will they be the same as in StarCraft?

StarCraft II campaign heroes will fulfill roles similar to what appeared in the original StarCraft single player experience, but they will have even more unique abilities from standard units, and will be more innovatively integrated into the story campaign. Heroes will not be buildable in multiplayer.

Which says the campaign heroes will mimic that of the original SC and not have items/experience. It could just be a misunderstanding.

I can certainly see them pre-implementing a hero system into the editor, but until I see it from the blue I don't necessarily believe it will happen. If anyone has a link to an official word though, feel free to prove me wrong.

EDIT: Also, I am sure even if they don't include the hero system there will easily be ways to make one of your own.

I still play WC3 melee every once in a while. I like the micro! WC3 is a very unique RTS.

Yes, once SC2 is out the number of wc3 players will decrease. . .but also lets not 4get that wc3 has the hero play type in melle gamers...sc2 wont have heroes...I think wc3 will survive probably better than original SC survived.

I am pretty sure this has been brought up numerous times. Read through the posts before posting.

Also even if wc4 comes out it will cause a big hole between it and wc3. As it sure will have other formats its mapping history then will have to be started from the beginning causing some people staying at wc3 and others going onto wc4. In other words if wc4 comes out it will be the end of wc3.

I don't think that wc3 modders will go over to SC2, and if they do..
I steal a cookie from them instead of giving them one -.-
Keyword: modders. You're going to have to steal a lot of cookies, because it's more than likely that a huge amount of modders from wc3 will switch to sc2, if, in fact, a wider range of possibilities with the editor is present, as it should be.

Sorry but why would people forget? and if they forget? its pretty logical because there are already some RTS' that have way better graphics and are maybe even much more fun. But ok they maybe don't have the uber-editor warcraft has. I think Wc3 should be remembered for being the greatest customizable game ever..
