Wicked Rising - A new kind of survival

the internet requires a lot of people to maintain it, so in a zombie infested world, internet probably wont work, so if you want to reach a system with your computer, you will need to conect them.

Obviously, however many modern labtops also works as transmitters, so might take over some of the quallaties from the radio tool.

Also, now I think about it, radio seems kinda pointless, when we're using the "limitless" wc3 chat system. But might allow people to get contact with outsiders, bandits and so forth.

you could cancel the wc3 chat, i'm pretty sure that there is a way...

edit: I think analgesics is the word for pain killer ^-^

Well, Laptops could be used for:
-cracking the scurity systems
-wi-fi to, as I already mentioned, control some of electronical equipment you have.
-For crafting some hi-tech devices on maximal crafting level.

By the way, what about some kind of cell phone and whatever else based device that makes some loud noise and can be activated with laptop? Imagine what a useful distraction that would be! You could like, well, use this to keep the zombies away from your base. Or make some sort of "minefield".

Are there any other uses for radio\cellphone?
Like if (really, if) you don't have share vision on, I think you could use a radio or a cellphone to view your fellow survivor (who has to have a radio\cellphone too).

I hope that made sense :p

Give shared vision to the person with the other radio/cellphone ?
This is used on zombination, and works well there

Yup. That's what I thought.
As for the mutations I thought that some kind of very low hp exploding zombie would be nice. Or\and a zombie that spawns minor zombies when it dies.

I think I already suggested the fexploding zombie.

Minor zombies? I think some kind of parasites would be cooler... you know some kind of insects...
Actually these two zombie types can be combined into a one - exploding zombie that spawns some flesh eating grubs.

Shared vision of that person? But in this map, well, people are somewhat more of rivals than allies, unless the apocalypse difficulty is set to very high and people have no other way to survive but to team up in, at least, groups of 3/4 people. But in less harder difficulty zombies aren't as dangerous as other players.
I guess radios/cell phones can pin-point the location of some drop-boxes with supplies that were air-dropped by military or whatever some time ago.

Good ideas, but mabye think a littl bit more about how the mutation could be realistic. For example: A dog was injured and had worm, then he was infected and the worm in the wound were infected too. If the dog dies these worm come out.
That makes more sence that just a zombie that spreads some other zombies.

Ok, now a real idea for a mutation: A woman is pregnant and got infected. If you kill this zombie there is a chance that the embryo falls out of her (mabye when u cut her with a knife or something). Mabye the embryo is alive and a littl zombie that wants to kill you or its just a dead and ugly thing lying on the ground. Anyway, both possibilities will lower your psychological health.

radios are more important than cellphones, but cellphones are easier to find

Yep, not much to add.

To the overall cellphone idea, it sounds cool, but should really work only for allies (as tleno said), maybe a labtop + a cellphone could be able to pinpoint all survivors with cellphones on the map, even enemies (but not for zombies, although they may have cellphones, those have run out of batteries a long time ago).

Also a mutation could be a zombie that somehow jams the connections like a jammer (could be the name "Jammer"), making all survivors within an big aura unable to communicate and use wireless depended abilities.

OHH! Time to animate a zombie baby x'D The zombie baby could possible scream and cry loud to lure zombies closer to the site!

Also, a zombie that spawns insect like things is already there. Wrote it in on of the previous updates. the Maggot Carrier, a zombie with negative life regeneration and a cannibal ability that heals it and stores a new maggot inside of it each time it eats a corpse. Then when it dies, it spawns maggots for each corpse it have eaten. This zombie encourages the survivors to have snipers AND remove corpses around their base camp to limit the amount of spawned maggot, as a single maggot carrier left alone could easily store more than 20 "small surprises".

Larvae that spawn from zombies could be quite cool (and disgusting) imo. But I guess it's up to The_Silent to decide =)

Zombies were humans once, so they will have humans objects, things that drops when it dies, or maybe you have to search the body for it

it will lower your psychological health, but might be necessary

edit:
Disposal the bodies is important to keep bad cannibal zombies away, so here is some ways to do it:
bury with a shovel
burn/explode them (can be done with several of them at once, but might not be as effective as buring)
store them in a secluded place
place them in your neighbor's backyard

Lol'd at the last one.
I don't think you should explode them, would only make the mess worse.
Corpses could even be used to lure maggot carriers away from you base to a laid trap.

Also, well came to think of it, no matter how hard it is to kill a mutated zombie, an average zombie with a helmet is hundred times harder. Try to head-shot a zombie with a combat helmet.

as i said before, there should be the good ideas and the bad ones, so people can choose the best way to do things, and some times mess things up

and after blow everything, there wont be a recognizable corpse :p

Covering everything in blood and gore will probably bomb you psychological health to a near zero unless you are the most hardcore war veteran, x-con or mental-patient. and as tleno says, will lure every god-forsaked walking corpse in a couple of miles to your position.

Wouldn't like grenade explosion attract all the zombies in the area?

Making corpse traps would, definetly, be awesome.
using corpses to lure zombies to enemies sounds awesome, too.

Well, most likely, only maggot carriers will be attracted by zombie corpses. But heated human corpses might lure zombies close to it, all though, that is quite a horrifying task and will cost you some psychological health to accomplish. But who knows, might be worth it.

Also, wouldn't it be more useful to just collect the corpses, keep them in some locker/old fridge, and then throw them away with a catapult to distract zombies/terrify other people.
Oh yes, we should add a catapult that can be built and can be used to throw away various items. pretty much a sandbox-ish item, but fun to use and I'm sure people may find more intresting uses for these. esspecially if they can be someway trrigered by some other things, like traps or radios.

By the way, as I understand with time the psychological health will immprove since people will gain some experience and will get more adapted to this new, cruel world, so I guess that later you won't have to worry about brain splatter and grotesque nightmares that much.

If I lived in a post-apocalyptic world full of zombies, I'd be more than thrilled with the idea of blowing up a pile of zombies that once tryed to eat me, it makes me look crazy? You would be crazy too if you were surrounded by the undead trying to eat your brain

Haha, will add a catapult later on then xD
And yeah, survivors get resistant to mental damage the more psychological damage they take.

Well, would probably also use explosives along the way, just wouldn't use it to dispose of corpses xD

Yay for catapults! :D
Also, wouldn't it be cool, that when you kill a zombie (without explosives), it would split in half and then the torso and legs would chase you?

Jep, on "immortallity" level 5 (max) on the customize apocalypse table, which will make zombies completely indestructible by everything but fire, acid, and extreme heat (anything that turns them to ash).

Also, I'm going to participate in the paired modelling competition, so my focus will be a little divided. Plus I'm on vacation from Monday on until next Saturday. This will obviously slow the progress down for the next week to a near zero. But will return strong after that, and as far as possible still participate in discussion until saturday. On the side note, I'm almost finished with modelling a zombie baby (disgusting, I know), so It'll be finished soon hopefully. :)

Zombie baby? I smell Dead space 2! And bloody dippers...

And what do you think of combining some contraptions for sophisticated traps and systems? Imagine that instead of making a bomb that explodes on close range once enemies are close, you build a device that trrigers other nearby contraptions once zombies are close, like shall we say some xplosives or whatever. Making traps this way is more fun and adds more different posibilities.

I smell dawn of the dead remake, but it was really for symons zombie mutation, aka the pregnant zombie.

Like activators that can be hooked to other stuff (like trapwire, step panels, laser line detecters), and then one can self decide what the trap should do. Kinda har to explain, hope you get it

Yea I see your plan. so like different ones will have different detection range and maybe will detect hiding ones. Like basic one will require nearly no experience in crafting, but will work only once someone steps on it, while other ones will be like more sphpisticated, and the best one should be some kind of motion detecting thing that will require quite a lot of experience, will detect hidden units too, and will have a pretty moderate range...

Oh, also I guess that these things should be able to activate lightbolts/sound emitters too. You know, some kind of primitive alarm system.

I really have no idea. :p
By the way, are you guys using blight in this map?
Just thought it would be nice to know.

a tazer gun could neutralize a zombie?

Depends on the disease. The zombie survival guide says a solanum infected zombie is only half as affected by electricity has a normal human being, making tazers unsuable.

I really have no idea. :p

Just thought it would be nice to know.

wasn't planned so far, blight is ugly.

I guess that depends from a mutation type.
But still, tazer can be useful at begining of game to fight other players - people are pretty much vulnerable to shock.

Jep, also as a non-lethal way of disposing of enemies. Although a tazer might stop the heart of a heart patient og a person with very low health.

what happens if your psychological health goes to zero?
do you attract zombies just like in amnesia?

You mean start screaming and stuff? I guess. Plus I guess your stats will decrease... some may increase, too, but not that much and those are more of physical parameters like stamina.

psychological health 0= suicide ?

Nah that would be too hardcore, plus if you want to suicide you can demolish/whatever yourself or just leave the game.

Nah, he starts to panic, s oI guess loss of control and begining to run in circles should work.

Depends on situation I guess. Lose control of yourself until it has returned probably.

Did someone say new ideas?

The chances that you will be able to find the perfect base will be slim to none, so when you find something suitable for the size of your group(if you have one) you will need to find materials to "up-armor" the location. Below is a lite/description of some of the most basic and available of materials.

What To Use
Lumber: Great for a quick wall, wood can be found in excess at any lumber yard/ home improvement store. Rage zombies will most likely be able to climb this if you do not take the time to "properly" place the wood. A good rule of thumb is to build a seven to eight foot high fence, this should minimize a Ghouls climbimg attempts. The wood wall may also burn down, so try and implement a dual wood and earth wall. Asides from physical barriers they may also be used for fortifications and the building of platforms or watch towers.

Plywood: basically big flat sheets of particulated wood that is compressed, a popular building material to use, they come in a wide range of thicknesses. 3/8" or thicker plywood will provide decent covering on the inside of windows and unused doors. Plywood, will degrade when in a humid/wet environment, so keep extra sheets lying around in a cool dry place for replacements after rainstorms.

Aluminum Roofing: Another easily found material. Can be used for a plethora of fortification purposes. should be intermixed with other building materials such as lumber, brick, blocks, and sandbags. reasearch into how the currogated roofing sheets are attached to other materials so as to provide the most secure method of attaching, minimizing loose ends. can be used to provide fire proofing to roofs and wooden walls.

Barbed & Razor Wire: Great addition to any fence base, and top. may also be placed around windows and unused doors to help deter/slow down forced enterance. Also and be used as "trip wire" if place around shin hight to slow aproching hordes.

Chain Link Fence: This is more of a "first line of defence" fortification, as it works better to slow things down than to stop any kind of attack. A determined raider or zombie will be able to climb it. You can attach bells to help alert the watch of an attack. Also, you can also electrify it to help deter raiders and zombies if you have the power to spare. Can be used over windows or unused doors to improve the baracade.

Brick: Can be found in most home improvement stores. Building a wall will take some time and patience with the knowledge of mixing mortor/cement. Be sure to use multiple layers and a foundation to increase the stability of the whole wall against being pushed over by hoards of zombies or raiders.

Cinder Block: Similar as brick, but easier reinforce with rebar, and lumber. Cinder blocks are also much larger, which means much quicker fortification. One row of cinder blocks does little to impede bullets, however.

Sandbag: A great idea for any base, as it can make any wall bullet-proof and are simple to make, just put sand or dirt in a canvas bag. May also be used to help fire proof structures.

Tyvek: is, to the eye, a large white expanse of something remarkably like paper. Upon closer inspection, however it proves very different: it is absolutely waterproof, it is not possible to tear it, and it crinkles much more loudly than cellophane. It comes in rolls eight feet tall and about a hundred feet long. Nearly everything about tyvek suggests a tall, strong fence that rustles loudly to warn of intruders.

Simple: Some times simple is best, such as making a small ditch out side you base to trip up some slow moving ghouls. Alowing you more time to deal with them as they come. To make this more effective add sharpend sticks or some like items to "catch" the dead to further slow them down.

Places To Protect
Windows: Placing aluminum siding on the inside, fill the center with a few sandbags or place brick/cinder blocks in the center, then cover the outside with wood planks/aluminum.

Doors: Any unused doors should be filled in the same as the windows post above. Doors that will be used should be reinforced with either aluminum or metal bars. To secure the door close, you should use an old-school wooden block/metal rod used in conjunction with quality deadbolts.

Entire Outside Wall: As best you can, you should either cover the exterior with aluminum or sandbags to keep the structure you are inhabiting as fireproof/bullet proof as possible. This should also help strengthen the structure.

Bites are the most common form of transmission of a zombie-carried disease, as these diseases are often transferred through bodily fluids. Bites range in area size, depth, and contact with blood vessels. The infection's incubation period depends on all of these things, as well as the specific type of zombie.

Treatment for Bites
Bitten individuals take some time to turn, depending on the type of virus. This time can range from 12 hours (Solanum) to a few seconds (Rage Virus). Since no two human bodies are exactly alike, other factors, such as the victim's metabolism, can cause the process to take longer or shorter. Unfortunately, since these conditions are as of yet totally incurable, the best thing to do with bitten individuals is to kill them before they turn, or allow them to commit suicide. This not only eliminates a zombie, it spares the victim the painful process of changing. It helps to calm the victim and prepare them for this, which can help keep a clear conscious when the time comes to put them down. The only way to do this is by destroying the brain and burning the corpse (excluding the Rage Virus in which case conventional methods of killing should work just as well, in this case burning is simply hygienic).

If the bite is on a limb, amputating the affected limb can, in some very rare cases, stop the infection before it spreads to the body's vital centers, although it it highly unlikely that it will work. If this method is attempted restrain the victim and keep under observation for at least 24 hours. If any signs of infection show terminate patient immediately. This method has little to no chance of working, and is not recommended. Although it may be emotionally crippling, if you are bitten, you will have to kill yourself. Even if you don't, the virus will, so suicide is actually the best thing you can do.

Some viruses clinically kill the victim, leaving them without vital signs and motionless for hours. This is another opportunity to destroy the now useless brain, as a precaution that they will not rise, and as a way to make the act slightly easier for their loved ones.

Well, you forgot to mention wood planks can be used to block the windows and stuf - that's pretty much zombie defense classics to close all the windows with planks.

Not sure about refining the walls with aluminiumm, I think using fire extinguiser is so much more intresting, not to mention it's hard to imagine how to immplement that fireproofness thing.

Erm yes, but you see that would be pretty hard to make including that Silent has separate doodads for interior walls and outer walls, and it will look weird when walls are destroyed and floor is fine... plus imagine how rigged it could get if someone would just demolish your fortress, leaving you with no walls...
