Update size for latest patch?

Hi, Hivers

Currently, I'm still playing 1.27b and wanted to update to 1.29.2. But unfortunately, I can't seem to find offline installers like older patches. So, I had to go through online installer. The problem is that my network usage is limited and I don't know the most accurate size if I am to download this. So, if you guys know the most accurate size when updating from 1.27b to 1.29.2

Not really sure, supposed to be around 70 MB but some reports indicated the game downloaded the whole chunk again from scratch. So yeah...

Thanks for reply, sir Daffa! On topic, but even the size of 1.27.2 installer is 82MB, this would be larger. Some say that it would be around 500MB

I recall there was a problem with 1.29 patching that causes it to spike a ton sometimes, though I'm sure it's around 100 MB at most from what I can discern when I patched up.

For the record, the size of the standalone offline patches may vary greatly, based on the locale they are designed for. As an example, War3TFT_127b_Italiano.exe is a 238 MB download, while War3TFT_127b_English.exe is a 80.3 MB one.

Really? Thanks for that info, I think it would be around 100~300MB. But it would be more than that to me for no reason(I thought it would because of Windows update but even it is disabled, it still costs me more data than on mobile and that's why I favor offline installers than online ones, I download it from mobile, transfer file to PC and install, easier and less expensive than PC at least)

Umm, what does CASC mean? XD. For 1.3, yea it doesn't matter.

It will be ~1.6 GB of data as all game files will be redownloaded, the same as a clean install. However 1.31 and future patches will be much smaller again, probably 100MB or less.

The truth is, we do not know what the future will hold. I will simply point out the fact that forcing the hopefully debugged version of a supposedly working hotfix for a previously pushed and obviously not fully tested official patch version, is not exactly very efficient, server and bandwidth-wise imho. Even with CASC. How many 10-100 MB 'micro-fixes' before something finally works as intended, I wonder...

I would also like to remind people that besides the full standalone offline patches (which can patch any previous version of the game to the latest one), Blizzard also released smaller patches to upgrade the game from one version to the immediate next one.

Both Warcraft III.exe and WorldEdit come to over 30MB in total. A small change in code and they will be recompiled and hence require to be redownloaded. I am guessing they are so large due to static linking many libraries that were before separate DLL files that did not require updating. On the one side this potentially leads to performance improvements due to link time code optimization but on the other side it means larger updates.

The topic of this thread is about bandwidth usage to upgrade the game to the latest version. It is not about any performance improvements (or not) while running either the game of the World Editor after the game has been successfully patched.

There is no need to fully redownload a file in order to update it.

There is if the file completely changes. Eg if encrypted.

The executables are using some kind of protection to make reverse engineering (making a map hack) harder.

Thanks for that info Maybe I should run to cafe rather than downloading at home..

Also, I think future patches would be so smaller(around ~<5MB). Since it would be rebalancing things(i.e. it would download only small files like UnitData.slk, OrcUnitStrings.txt etc.) unless it is bug fix(for example current war3 patch issue: distorted sounds and others like Attack Ground with orb crash) or something new feature(Maybe 36 players? Who knows¿¿).

Unfortunately, Blizzard never released any 1.26a->1.27a nor any 1.27a->1.27b update afaik. You have to download the full updater(s) to patch the game to these versions.

I wanted to keep my old 1.27 cracked warcraft too.
I install original and patched it to 1.21 and --> update to 1.29 tooks me around 600Mb

Hmm, this seems fine. BTW what do you mean by "wanted to keep my old 1.27 cracked warcraft too."? You can keep as many instances of war3 as you wish. I have 1.27 one and another 1.26.

I didn't want to risk to update my cracked warcraft. All of the warcraft updates was patches but this one was online. I didn't risk

And for people who want to know I have 3 warcraft.
1: Cracked and Persian version that belongs to old time that I didn't understand English well.
2: I downloaded only Frozen but couldn't install it. Ragin of Chaos was missing. Installer couldn't detect it.
