Hello Tauer!
Logged in to say hi to you. I wish to say that the movie did Gul'dan very nice. Both his visuals and character: they showed us that he can also punch the hell out of people! I am even more hyped for him hahah. Other than that, Anduin Lothar model is very nice, you can feel the knighthood on him even without in his untextured state. Looking forward to have him lead the alliance against the orcs!

Oh my good lord Tauer, you're nowhere near rusty that's for sure xD

edit:
Looking at that sword again... I think it's pretty beautiful and it kinda makes me want to shove it up my ass because of it's amazingness lol

Haha xD

Go hard my man, you know I'm still supporting you! :) #teamtauer

Thanks mate ;) Did you ever get into modeling yourself?

While I agree that Gul'dan was a good portrayal, I wasn't really a fan of him fighting hand-to-hand. That's just not Gul'dan to me. His main characteristic was always that he was physically weak but a god-mode Warlock.

And thanks :)

Got started on the lion head:

Not really a fan of the wings. Might redo those.

Sadly not. Time, real life difficulties and responsibilities didn't allow me to do so. However I have improved in triggers, and you may as well expect your name to be seen in my upcoming campaign's credits as well as an Easter Egg containing something of yours somewhere in the campaign. That's something like a bonus for me in addition to giving people whose resources I love and use for it apart from credits.

Sounds cool man. Can I ask what kind of campaign you're working on?

Think I'm calling it for the lion head:

Heyo Tauer, good looking stuff! Got some feedback for the shoulderpad if you'll hear it, you're hammering the super bright whites a little too hard in my opinion and some general AO/softshadows should be placed across the head, for example the back parts of those wings would probably be darker than the front parts, they would also cast a shadow onto the lion head itself, push the depth!

A fully fictional custom themed one, kind of different from what people have been used to so far. I am about to introduce a whole different game-play along with it, of course it'll have the same aspects as default and common ones in terms of how the story develops, and where it leads the player, however as the maker I'll do my best to give it a whole new feel, make things unique and different. For the story and all that, for now I can only guarantee that there are few things which are hundred percent certain, some of them being a fully custom world, custom setting, custom races and their loyalties, theme itself will be different than what people are used to. However, to cut it short, a pretty much psychological one in terms of character development, how they screw each other up, set up things and what happens in the world.

I believe people could enjoy such a theme, and only time will reveal. :)

Sounds sick! Always love me a character focused campaign, can't wait to try it!

I'll do my best to please your needs when it comes to playing a good campaign. As much as your response pleases me, I am a man of honor. This is the topic where you are about to shine, and my man you certainly do that! Keep up the good work, I'm loving what I see in the attachments attached to your posts! A piece of art you're making on the daily basis, and whole Warcraft III community is supposed to thank you for it!

Absolutely moving in the right direction! I'd say don't be afraid to push the planes of the face more with shadows, and don't shy away from more saturated colours around the darker areas, metals are usually very saturated if coloured. Did a quick little overpaint to show you what I mean.

Thanks mate, I really appreciate it ;)
Do you have a thread where I can follow your project? Or do you plan on making one? I'm very intrigued.

I'll shoot you a PM/VM when it's up. I'll actually put it up for public when I have some content to reveal, stories to tell. At the moment I have written out the basics, the general idea and so on. Once I put everything together, be assured I'll let you know about everything! :)

Welcome back Tauer! Sorry for not coming in to say hi earlier, the update to Hive's made it a bit harder to follow the forums I'd been subscribed to, prior to the actual update. XD Glad to see you're in one of your spells of working again! Lothar is looking absolutely fantastic so far. Even if you're a little rusty, your texturing is still totally on point, haha.

Man, I really admire you. You make everything perfect, the texture, mesh, animations..Wow. I tried making that lion shoulder pad several times and I made it horrible, you have made it perfect. Can I ask you for a little help? Like how you make human faces/heads? I really have problems with that part of modeling. If you have time some video tutorial would be nice, if not, in words.

Thanks for checking in!

Don't know about a tutorial. I did try recording myself modeling a while back but the modeling took too long and I ended up with huge video files on my already stuffed hard drive.
I could add you on Skype and give you some feedback on your models if you wanted though. I might be a little busy lately, but I wouldn't mind giving you a few pointers.

Woo. Now that's some high quality texturing. Looking sharp as usual, Tauer. :)

Thanks mate :)

Well, unfortunately, I don't have skype. But it would be nice if you show me some tips about where you put vertices when making the head mesh with some pictures, y'know. And do you use some reference pictures when adding vertices or?

Cool
I'm expecting A High Quality Lothar to be released
If you don't mind if I request a model. Can I request Uther during the Second War?

Unfortunately I don't really do requests. Making just one of these models take up quite a lot of my spare time, so I only work on my own things. Young Uther sounds pretty cool, but not really a model I'd be interested in making. Sorry.

I use reference images for some things. I think for the lion head in particular I just kinda looked at the concept art of Lothar while shaping it out using edge pulling. Kinda hard to explain with words, but I could send you a max file if you'd like to inspect it?

Oh, well I can give you an obj file then :p
If it's something you're interested in.

Sweet armor. Very smooth texture :)

Thank you! :)

Got started on the face:

WIP_13.jpg

Something about it I don't like. I think it's because I allocated too little texture space for it when I unwrapped. So it's hard to paint in details now because it's too low res. Too late to change now without screwing up the texture.
Anyway, it looks alright when viewed from a distance I guess:

I think alot of the issues with his face comes from the chin, if you were to remove his mustasche and beard it looks like he has a really tiny jaw under there, giving him a bit of a goofy look, he also has way too many wrinkles on his forehead, it looks a bit alien like. I would also try to go over the cheeks and try to push the planes a bit more, really push the shading, if you take a peek here - http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/whats-the-difference-between-texturing-skin-and-modeling.279202/
The image I posted as the last response to that thread, see how I have pretty clear distinctions where the facial planes change direction? With this guy, his face feels a little too smooth giving it a bit of a clay-like look.

The project is coming along REALLY nice though man, loving the armour so far.

Sure, that would be okay. I already am looking at Direfury's models meshes. I learned much from him. I would love to learn from you something too cuz you make everything perfect.
And damn, those are nice wips, great progress so far, it really gives that Lothar feel.

I would thread carefully with that nose mesh and forehead texture exaggeration since those are the main traits that distinguish humans from dwarves.

Yeah it does look similar to some of the head pieces of the models from the War of the Ancients project, especially the front view man.

Anyways great progress so far :) REALLY excited to see some animations in progress. Finally the main man's back to his workshop haha. One thing's off to me though. The shape of the eyes kinda feels weird, like almost Asian. Maybe make him look a little more worn down with the facial texture I mean he's a war veteran from the first war man, he kinda looks like a king here. Lastly question, are you gonna give him a ponytail?

The set looks damn cool, I give you that. I do appreciate the effort you're putting into that hair/beard texture. Really has that vibe Blizz does lately.

Well Lothar has always kind of had a dwarf-like look to his facial structure, imo. At least in the pre-movie sources, heh. It looks totally accurate to me, so far!

Keep up the fantastic work, Tauer! Super excited to see the end result of this one. ^^

Sorry guys, don't really have much to show you right now. I am working on it still, just a bit slowly. Partly because I've been a bit busy and partly because I recently got sucked into the WC3 campaigns again. So good. There is no game quite like it.
I've also been a bit busy writing actually. I have this campaign in my head that I've been wanting to make for years, so I've started writing a story outline for it.

That's alot better! The shading on the sides of his upper head might be a little much, but the rest looks good, awesome job!

Thanks mate! I appreciate the feedback ;)

Cool, I'll send you an obj file then. Feel free to ask me if you have any specific questions in regards to a model you're working on. I'm happy to help, but I don't really know how to give you advice on modeling in general, other than saying practice practice and more practice.

Wow, you're a miracle worker ._. so good

Thank you :)

I did worry a bit about him looking like a dwarf for a minute, but I decided that I'd rather give him some dwarfish features and have him look a bit more characteristic than just giving him a normal straight nose. I also think the beard is big part of what gives him that dwarf feel.

And yes, he's got a ponytail. Just not visible in the renders :p

Hi,nice work!I am interested when you will animate Kargath? He looks cool.
I really want to see your new Kilrogg;)

Hi there! Thanks for commenting :)
I'm not currently working on neither Kargath nor Kilrogg I'm afraid. You might have gotten me mixed up with paladinjst, I think he posted a WIP on Kargath a while back. He hasn't been active here in some time though.
I'm not ruling out the possibility of me making those models later though ;)

Finally got some more work done on Lothar:

WHAT ABOUT THE CAPE, IS IT GOING TO BE TEAM COLORED OR?

Man that is looking just fantastic so far! As Stefan.K said, the gloves stand out particularly well, and I'm digging the little ponytail there, hehe!

I don't know why I didn't notice this in the last render as it looks about the same, but I also really like the lighting on his tabard! It's noticeable and yet nice and subtle at the same time.

Thanks! And yeah, the cape is gonna be TC, with the exception of the borders, which will be gold like in the concept.

Thanks mate, I was actually a bit worried that the shading on the tabard was too sharp. Glad you like it :)

that's really awesome, I like the tabard and the belt, Every thing is perfectly detailed.

Thank you :)

Since this guy already seems a bit high poly, why not give his hands some more poly love!

While I normally prefer to keep the hands Blizz-like fisted hands, I tried giving his fingers a few polies and I like the result. Only made the change on the one hand though, since the other one will be hidden behind a shield. No reason to waste polies on that one.

That stuff is just way too high quality. Criminy, man, you don't disappoint.

Thanks mate ;)
