Great!
I'll gather my story concepts in this post and number them so we know which one we are discussing. :)

The Athranax
-Shalis comes across the legend of the Athranax, a giant and mysterious crystal of immense power, with the ability to capture souls. (A hint to where Jainas soul gem comes from will be present)
-She meets with the guardian of the Athranax, Pix, who offers to strike a deal: She will let Shalis use the athranax to capture the evil in the world, and in return, Shalis will protect the Athranax from its enemies.
-This includes finding and destroying Nox, Pix's counterpart who seeks to destroy the Athranax and realease Balor, the dark spirit inside.
-Shalis must find Nox and bring his artifact of power to Pix, so she can destroy it, and be forever free from the threat of Nox destroying it.
-Shalis starts hunting down evil beings and collects clues to Nox's whereabouts in the process. She finds him, more than once and chases him to the ends of the world, until she finally cornors him and makes ready to capture his soul in the Athranax.
-Nox realizes taht you are not evil yourself, but has just been decieved by Pix. He has a trick up his sleeve, and catches Shalis in a powerful spell that plunges her mind into oblivion and prison her inside her own mind. In a dram-world setting, she sees flashes of events before her time, revealing the origins of the Athranax.
-Athranax was once a spirit of power matching the ones of Balor. In an ultimate sacrifice, Athranax gave her life to become the crystal that since that day have kept Balor imprisoned inside.
-A tiny wisp of evil managed to escape and become a minor fairy. Nox, a servant of Athranax hunted down the fairy, and tried to destroy it, but it slipped away, and was lost for centuries. The escaped fairy was Pix.
-Shalis returns to the Athranax with Nox to finally end the ancient evil.

How should the campaign end?
Option 1: Pix has secretly been feeding on the sould that Shalis has captured, and grown strong. All the power of the sould combined have been channeled through her, and she can now take a stronger form.
You will have to kill Pix with the support of Nox, and this will be the Final boss.

Option 2: Pix knew that with more souls, the Athranax wouldn't be able contain the great evil inside. It is on the brim of destruction and letting Balor out. All it needs is one more soul. Pix kills herself and lets the soul gem absorb her aswell. Joining her dark master in the soul gem, the Athranax bursts open, and Balor appears.
You will fight Balor with the support of Nox as a final boss-fight.

When will the story take place?
Option 1: This whole story will either take place before the foundation of the barrow deeps The barrow deeps will be founded on top of the cave where the Athranax lies, and Shalis will be the first of an ancient order of Wardens protecting the worlds greatest evil, and having a prison on top of it as a cover-up. Maiev will be a descendant of Shalis.

Option 2: Maiev leaves for her hunt on Illidan, and Shalis takes over as Warden, swearing to restore the prison to its former glory.

This story takes place at an unknown time before the happenings of RoC, sometime in the eternity of the Night Elves.

Here is the rough storyline:

-Shalis and Willow Windborn are living in peace in a remote part of silverpine forest. They are lovers.
-Something is approaching from beyond the treeline, and the couple gets to their feet ready to fight.
-Demons reveal themselves, and a wild brawl results in the capture of Willow, as Shalis is left for dead.
-Shalis struggles to get to a nearby eternal fountain, healing her wounds.
-As soon as she is healed up, she hurries to the Temple of Elune, in order to seek the priestess council.
-The priestess, Felore Moonray, tells her about the burning legion, and its due invasion.
-"The legions invasion will come eventually, there is no stopping it, but before it does, you may have a chance to save your beloved Willow." Felore said.
-Felore further advices you to recieve a scroll from her library, which contain the instructions to summoning a small impling.
-The impling will be able to provide you with valuable information about how you can travel to the outland and find Willow.
-Shalis sets out to find the neccesary materials for the summoning, and returns to the temple.
-Felore brings Shalis to her private chambers and revelas a passage to an underground cave, where the summoning will take place, out of harms way for anyone else, in case something woud go wrong.
-The summoning is completed, and the imp Nox appears. Before Shalis and Felore have time to react, he breaks free, and disappears through a small hole in the wall.
-Felore tells Shalis to catch him swiftly, before he brings havoc to the lands above. Felore grants you what she belives is an essence cage to imprison him in. SHe also sens out her owls to search the area for Nox.
-An owl locates Nox, and Shalis hurries to the location to find Nox torturing a racoon, and she swiftly moves to imprision him in the essence cage.
-Nox laughs, as he sees what she tries to do, and does not make a move to avoid being captured.

-When the essence cage fails to imprison him, he tells her that an essence cage cannot imprison anyone unless its target have agreed to it. "I will agree to be captured, if you best me in a contest. If you win, my soul will be bound to your little trinket there. However, if you lose, you are the one who will be imprisoned. Deal?"
-Shalis agrees to the deal, and asks what the contest shall be.
-"I will best you in any area for sure, little Night Elf. Take your pick! You've already lost."
-Shalis thinks about his words, and realizes that the demon is indeed much stronger than her in many ways. However, she comes up with a plan.
-"There is a grand silvery oak in the east of those lands. The one who touches it first will be victorios, and the loser shall be imprisoned in the essence cage."
-"Very well."
-Nox reach out to touch the essence cage, and spoke a few demonic words. The cage lit up with a green glow.
-"The cage have now been infused with the rules. Its magic will make sure the loser will be imprisoned.
-"When the racoon here (Nox indicated to his claw where the racoon was still hanging helplessly) reaches the treeline after I release it, the race shall start, alright?"
-"Let's get this over with, Demon."
-The race begun and Shalis dashes away with her night elven nimbleness. Nox on the other hand, did nothing. Arrogant, and confident in his speed, he gave Shalis a big headstart. Just as Shalis had thought he would. She had an ace up her sleeve. The special technique she was taught by Willow, allowed her to move faster than the wind, and she intended to keep that secret as long as possible.
-Drawing closer to the tree, she saw that Nox lift off from the cliff where they started. He kept a calm pace, but he was moving way faster than Shalis had anticipated. She focused on her breathing, and kept her gaze focused in front of her. The wind felt lighter and less dense around her, and her steps quickly picked up speed.
-Nox, watching from the air, saw this, and felt a small pike of fear pierce his stomach. He started beating his wings all he could, and booms of broken air echoed over the forests.
-Shalis, not taking her focus away frm the path ahead, felt her heart race, and was carful not to lose her flow. She was going to make it!
-Not ten seconds later, she leaped through the treeline surrounding the great tree, looking upon it. She gasped. Just next to the tree, Nox was floating in the air. He taunted her, holding one finger a few centimeters away from the stem. An extreme grin twisted his face into a grotesque grimace.
-Nox watched as Shalis shrunk to her knees with tears in her eyes. "Forgive me Willow..." She lay down on the ground, elbows supporting her upper body frfom touching the earth, but with her head hanging low. Nox watched her sob, and felt joy twirling inside his stomach at great speed. Success! "Oh, you little pathetic waste of matter, did you bring the essence cage? It will certainly be interesting to see how we can fit that fat body into no more space than an owls beak."
-Nox listened to her sobbing, capering at its sound, a melody for his ears, soft and beautiful. Suddenly, the music changed, and a grim tone of laughter broke the sobbing.
-"Hey! What are you laughing about, Night elf?"
-Shalis laughter grew louder and more joyful.
-"She's lost it for sure." Nox thought ot himself.
-Shalis craned her head upwards to look at Nox with a baleful gaze. A wide smile was dancing across her lips. Nox looked at her, intrigued by her strange reaction to her soon to be loss. She put her right arm to the ground, and lifted herself to stand at all four.
-Nox eyes nearly popped as he saw, that with her left hand, she was patting a root. She had won.
-Nox flew anxiously from side to side through the air, watching as Shalis raised the essence cage. What was he going to do? Without a second thought, he flew away from Shalis as fast as he could, but his efforts was no use. Pulsating tendrils of green magic lashed out from the essence cage at Nox, who screamed in pain as they latched to his body. He struggled for a few seconds, but was then merciessly pulled into the small essence cage.

-Shalis returns to Felore with Nox safely imprisoned.
-Felore tells Shalis to step outside, as she is going to "do things" to tun Nox into somthing more friendly.
-As much as Shalis would like to see the little imp suffer, she stepps out as she is still recovering from her almost loosing to Nox.
-After a day and a night, Felore emerges from her temple, with Nox floating gently by her side.
-"He is kind as a lamb now Shalis, and ready to serve to your hearts content. Find Willow and bring him back! I'll always be here if you need me."
-"Thank you Priestess. I am forever in your debt. Now, Nox, tell me what I need to open a portal to the outland."
-"Opening a portal is easy. A portal for a non-demon however, will not be a walk in the forest. First you'll need the Runes. Six runes should be enough, and you need to place them in a circle to create the boundaries for the portal. Next, You'll need a key. A key can be anything really, but it needs to be infused with the correct incantations in order to call the portal in the first place. And lastly, the most important part: you'll need a great amount of souls.
-"Souls?"
-"Yes. In order to open the portal, some kind of fuel is needed. Demonic magic runs on souls. This is needed for all portals between this world and the Outland. How do you think Felore managed to summon me? Bingo. The portal clamied a part of her soul! I must say she looked surprisingly healthy for reducing it like that."
-"Felore... I didn't know!"
-"Yes, yes. Her sacrifice was grand and all that. Now first of all, you need a container for the souls. A soul gem. It is a glowing blue crystal witch feeds of the death of nearby beings. They can be found everywhere about a trees length below the earth. However, Most are microscopic, so we need to go somewhere where a lot of blood have been spllied. A battlefield for example!"
-Shalis face went pale. "Would a graveyard do?"
-"No you dummy. That's where people are taken after they die, not when they die. Now, that battlefield..."
-"Shut up, demon. This is a place where animals of silverpine go when they are old, and die in peace. All beings who dies here are dying within the distance you can throw a rock."
-"That... should probably do it!"
-"Good. Let us be on our way."
-What Shalis had in mind, was a sacred grove in the east of Silverpine. She had heard about a soul gem being there before, and that it was guarded there by a handful of druids. Getting it would be a desecration for sure, but she could not stand the thought of not seeing Willow again. She was willing to do anything.

-Shalis approached the glade, with the plan to quietly go in, recieve the soul gem, and get out.
-She is discovered, and she is forced to kill the druids, in order to not be branded a desecrator, and banned from silverpine. "Don't worry." Nox grinned "The Soul gem will only grow slightly larger now."
-She goes underground, and finds the mountain chamber where the crystal have grown. It is much bigger than they aticipated, and she breaks a piece from it, and wears it around her neck.
-Shalis hurried out of the sacred grove, collecting the bodies of the druids with the soul gem. "Handy clean-up tool, isn't it?" Nox taunted her.
-With a heavy heart, Shalis return to her home in Silverpine, and collapses, crying over her crimes. "No time to rest, Shalis! Time to collect souls! With the four you have in there already being petty as they are, I'm pretty sure they won't do any difference. Worthless pieces, if you ask me" Shalis ground her teeth.

This is where all the submaps will take place. Shalis travels to various locations, collecting grand souls.

-When the soul gem is finally filled to the brim with pulsating soul energies, it is almost time to open the portal. The last thing that is needed to be done, is to recieve the key.
-Nox tells Shalis of a mighty warlock, that keeps the key as a collection item. He also tells her that his specialty is toxic words that corrupts and spellbinds any listener, so Shalis needs to cover her ears before engaging combat.
-After defeating the Warlock, and recieving the key, Shalis returns to Felore, where she offers her the soul gem. Felore realizes that Shalis is the one who killed the druid guarding it, but accepts the soul gem anyway, on the condition that she will Give up her moonblade, so she vcan never do something like that again.
-Shalis accepts, and a spell is placed upon her weapon, that when she returns to Silverpine from the outland, her blade will be teleported into Felores possesion for safekeeping.
-The portal is now opened, and Shalis goes through, guided by Nox.
-She arrives somewhere in the outland, and she manages to locate Willow by sending Nox to find him for her. He returns shortly, and tells her that he is imprisoned in Hellfire Fortress.
-She defeats the keeper of the prison and goes to release him, and they return to the portals location.
-Upon returning form the outland, they find themselves standing in the burning woods of silverpine, with demons running everywhere, and infernals descending upon the earth from rifts in the sky.
-Sneaking through the ranks of the demons, she makes her way to the Temple of Elune in order to find Felore, and retrive the moonblade so she can help get rid of the curse she brought upon them.
-Felore reveals herself to be the one who orchestrated the entire thing, making Shalis a puppet to carry out her tasks. Her goal was to open a portal all along, and bring the glory of the Burning Legion to Azeroth.
-Hunt down Felores four generals, to anger her, and fight her yourself as a final battle.

Those are the different gameplay moments:
-Fight demons alongside Willow.
-Travel to the Temple of Elune to see Felore.
-Find a scroll in a library.
-Gather ingredients for the summoning of an imp, Nox.
-Put the ingredients into the circle at the righ moment?
-Locate Nox, and kill animals and creatures that have been corrupted by him.
-Race Nox to a tree.
-Return to Felore.
-Travel to the grove.
-Infiltrate the temple of the grove.
-Accidently get caught, and kill four druids.
-Locate the soul gem chamber, and take a piece.
-Return to your home.
-Collect souls in submaps. (This is where the player will go through all (or a few at least) of the submaps I already created for the project.)
-Travel to the warlocks tower
-Climb the warlocks tower (dungeon), and defeat the warlock.
-Return to Felore, and the portal is created.
-Travel through some outland.
-Clear Hellfire Fortress.
-Return to the portal.
-Locate and kill four of Felores Generals
-Kill Felore.
This is unfinished.

This was the first story that came into my mind when I created the campaign, so I just wanted to inlcude it here aswell.
This is set in right after illidan is released from the prison, following the fate of the prison, rather than Maievs story.

Each title is a new mission.

From Ashes Reborn
The Barrow Deeps prison has been raided by Tyrande, leaving the place in ruins. More under the "Story" title here.
Shalis saves what she can from the prison and then sets off on her first adventure to make the world a more jsut place.
Small Time
Shalis are notified by bandits peridically raiding a village. She goes there to solve the trouble by imprisoning the bandits.
She finds out that the village was under the protection of a Paladin, which have refused to send any backup to aid the village. Shalis sense of justice sends her on her way to settle score with him for his irresponsible behaviour.
The hollow Paladin
She infiltrates the Paladins Fortress, which has plenty of soldiers, strangely just guarding the fortress instead of the villages theyare supposed to protect.
Shalis finds the Paladin, and get to know that he was selfish, and was only protecting himself, because there was a dreadlord hunting him down.
Shalis gets to know that the dreadlord is a master manipulation and mind control, and he plans to release a chaos storm from his tower in a dalaren outpost.
Demon Hunt
Shalis gets to the outpost, and notices that the poeple in it is in a strange sleep-walking stage, patrolling the streets as guardians. Shlis sneaks past them without being discovered, with a small amount of casualities.
She finds the Dreadlord at the top of his tower, and fights him to the point that he is forced to retreat. To buy some time, he utters the uncomplete spell, releasing a small chaos strom, which ravages the city.
Ravaged Remains
The dreadlords mind control is now lifted from the inhabitants of the city, and they assisst Shalis in defeating the demon troops the storm brought with it.
Shalis questions the generals of the demonic forces, in order to find out about the dreadlords whereabouts.
Into Fire
Shalis creates a portal and sets off after the Dreadlord into the Outland, and finds him in his fortress.
Nightmares Retribution
The dreadlord was prrepared for her arrival, and set a trap, plunging her mind into oblivion, where she has to fight her way through a nightmarish landscape in order to survive.
Breaking the nightmare spell, she breaks free and slays the dreadlord.
Seeds of Darkness
The dreadlord has already planted a seed of darkness inside Shalis though, hoping that she might disturb the balance of the night elves, and thereby have a greater chance for the legions return.
He fueled her hate against Tyrande, making her want to kill her for what she did against her sisters in Maievs Watchers. He also gave her a hint wher she could find the power to kill Tyrande as she is hard to kill on her own.
Shalis finds the shadowmaster, from which she recieves the shadow extract. The shadow Extract can raise the dead as shadows of their former selves, making them obedient to whoever revived them.
Domination
SHalis goes back to the Barrow Deeps, and slays all her remaining sisters, and all other allies that she have been recruit to the watchers through her adventures.
She revives them, and sets off on a crusade towards Tyrandes Glade.
Tyrandes End
Crushing Tyrandes Defences, Shalis is ultimately alone with her. As she raises her moon blade to finsih Tyrande off, something happens (Elune intervention?)
Shalis realizes all she has done, and exiles herself, leaving Tyrande alive.

This story doesn't quite fit the concept of the campaign anymore, but it might be inspiring.
The campaign will consist out of five overmaps, all vast and set in different tilesets. In each map, there are loads of quests and side quests, most of which needs to be finished in order to progress to the next overmap.
There will usually only be one or two main quests, that has to be finished, but a larger number of optional quests, which you will have to finish about 75-80% of in order to go to the next map. Finishing more than that, can give you greater rewards. Among the optional quests, you will be able to travel to the submaps that are already created for the project (Solen's Sanctuary, Bonechiller Burrow etc.).

Rewards will be transferable between overmaps, but not between submaps.
It is always useful to gather souls, by killing more potent, non-respawning units. Gather a set number of souls, and you will unlock rewards over time.

Chapter One: Loss of a Friend
Setting - Silverpine Forest.
Main Quest - Getting the Soul Gem, and then gathering materials in order to summon Nox, and bind him to the Soul Gem.
Side Maps - Forest Temple, Solen's Sanctuary
Shalis beloved friend, Willow, is taken away by demons. They disappear into a strange portal before Shalis manages to save him.
Shalis seeks out Felore whom she asks for help to bring Willow back. Felore says that the only way to bring him back is to open a portal to the outland and reclaim him herself.
This is dangerous, as passing through the elemental walls to the outland has never been done by a non-demon being before. She'll need a guide. (It would have been better for Felore to do this herself, but she didn't want to risk her life).
In order to bind a demon to your will, you'll need to have a soul gem to bind him to. In order to get a soul gem, you'll need to claim it from the Sacred grove.
Shalis goes to get the Soul Gem, and has to slay the Druids in the process.
Having the Soul gem, she can now summon Nox, and force him to be her guide through the Outland.
Nox tells her that going from the Outland is easy, but getting there is hard. To get there, they need to travel to a distant land, where the veil between the Outland and this world are at their thinnest.

Chapter Two: Pursuit
Setting - in a far away continent (Northrend, Icecrown, Barrens or Sunken Ruins). Northrend makes sense because of the animating of the dead is made a lot there. Animating dead requires minor demons to control the bodies.
Main Quest - Gathering grand souls to fuel the portal.
Side Maps - Bonechiller Burrow, Tropic Tomb
After arriving to Northrend, Shalis starts to gather potent souls in order to create the portal. She also creates a circle of magical runes that are required to open the portal.

Chapter Three: Into The Unknown
Setting - The Outland.
Main Quest - Recruiting Demons to storm the prison where Willow is held.
Side Maps - Hellfire Fortress, Fae Forest
Third, an overmap in the outland, where Shalis must place demons under her command, using similiar methods to when she enslaved Nox, in order to charge a fortress, and set Willow free.
A long travel is a head, as Shalis needs to travel to the place in the Outland that is connected to the Silverpine forest, in order to be able to start tracking the whereabouts of Willow. When she finally gets there, she discovers that Willow is held in a prison. Shalis need to recruit demons in a similiar way she enslaved nox, and storm the prison in order to set Willow free. When she finds Willow, he is just and empty shell of himself, lifeless. A Shadow reveals the plans to Shalis, about Felore baiting her to go there in order to open a portal between the worlds, allowing Felore to bring through an army of demons, and command them to take over the world.

Chapter Four: Ravaged Remains
Setting - Destructed Silverpine Forest.
Main Quest - Hunt down and slay all the demons in the map.
Side Maps - Dark Depths, Pale Palace
Realizing that she have lost Willow, she seeks vengeance upon Felore, and travels back through the portal in order to kill her. She returns to a Silverpine Forest, tainted by demonic magic and chaos. She clears out the forests, demanding information about Felores whereabouts from all demons. She finally gets an answer, that Felore have gone to the underground, and is in the process to dig tunnels to the worlds all cornors in order to spring up from the ground, and surprise clueless civilizations. Shalis gets to know the whereabouts of teh entrance to the underworld, and head there to end Felores reign.

Chapter Five: Retribution
Setting - The Underground, the future location of the Barrow Deeps prison.
Main Quest - Infiltrate the underground, and slay Felore.
Shalis fights through countless of demons in the underground, trying to find Felore. She finally finds her, and kills her.
This one could really use some more work storywise. Perhaps some cool plottwist?

Story #4 is the one I'm currently thinking of using.

I'm not a fan of Willow living on in Nox though. Nox should have no such "weaknesses". Maybe only that he is a little more prone to help her thanks to willows soul. Perhaps that is what you meant. :D
A demon is a demon. They are opportunists. Nox will have a better life with Shalis than with the egocentric Felore who would just use him to do her bidding. This way, other paths could be one day opened for Nox.

That is very true. They are also evil and wicked by nature though. But yeah, I also want him to end up a hero, but I don't want him to mind doing Felores bidding.
Perhaps he will have the chance to help Felore defeat Shalis, but just stands by doing nothing, becasue he is interested in the outcome. I want him to be a little indifferent towards the outcome of mortals. :)

but I don't want him to mind doing Felores bidding.
My reasoning is that he has no choice given the current situation. After he is summoned Felore is his master because well, she is powerful and made use of a sacrifice/soul to summon the familiar. But, from what we read in the story, he is a powerful creature, has many tricks up his sleeve (the pact and race to the tree). Over time he could also get accustomed to Shalis, especially that she somewhat becomes his pupil.

By now, Willow's soul fragments could play a role in helping Shalis or not. However, he would calculate (plus the plot twist) and see that he would have more if not maybe full freedom if Shalis wins (maybe she would be grateful and let him leave/set him free). If Felore should have full control over Nox, then Shalis would have few chances of winning without the power of the soulgem, methinks.
What do you mean indifferent? Isn't he supposed to have a mind of his own to decide things?

Just wanted to clarify my standpoint :D
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shalis could just be another warden of the Barrow Deeps not necessarily having to take Maiev's place (especially if you decide to keep the stigma idea). We don't see her in RoC when Tyrande frees Illidan. But, that's pretty much open to debate.

Also, what makes Nox so special? Why is he so powerful? Was it just a happening that Felore summoned him?

That is true. Felor should have something on him, forcing him to do her bidding wheter he likes it or not, no matter how powerful he is. He is not restrained from decieving her though. That oculd be a cool ending of Felore: Nox screwing her over... :D

He is just indifferent wheter people around him dies or not. He does not value life. He is absoultely not indifferent towards his own fate.
As you said, he might get full freedom if Shalis wins, but he is unable to do anything to harm Felore anyway. Sounds good.

The Stigma idea?

I'm not sure about the origins of Nox actually... :D
I was inspired by a book I read where demons are superior to humans, but bound by rules, in order not to just kill every human they see. I wanted something similiar.
I'll work more on this.

Also, I added a third story in my first post, just so you know. It might inspire us further. :)
Now, I'm going to bed. I will reply further tomorrow.

The Stigma idea?
When she gets looked down by the other night elves because of what she has done to the druids. Like, the druids "cursed" her with their dying breath leaving some marks on her face (tattoos or something) so, some-many night elves would know what means.
Hmm, humans? That would put this event after they have reached Kalimdor. Bandits started raiding night elves on the new continent.
Oh, well, it's in the Eastern Kingdoms then. But why would Shalis go there during RoC when the demons are attacking her homeland plus Dalaran is destroyed by the time Illidan is freed.
Even better than a dreadlord, you could use a succubus :D
This story doesn't quite fit the concept of the campaign anymore, but it might be inspiring.
Yeah, the second story definitely makes more sense. There's also no soulgem in this one.
Of course, there's always the option for an alternative story instead of a side story.

Now, I'm going to bed. I will reply further tomorrow.
Good night!

Agreed, that story is no longer viable. I like the dreadlords role a little bit though, and the event that Shalis will slaughter her own people, because she thinks it is the right thing to do, so this may come back in the finished story.

I think that the best fitting story would be something can be "wrapped" on top of a Rexxar style cmapaign, where there are a few overmaps after each other, and loads of small quests within them.
Here is the idea I've been working on this morning.

The campaign will consist out of five overmaps, all vast and set in different tilesets. In each map, there are loads of quests and side quests, most of which needs to be finished in order to progress to the next overmap.
Wait, what? Are you revamping the entirety of your maps?
Among the optional quests, you will be able to travel to the submaps that are already created for the project (Solen's Sanctuary, Bonechiller Burrow etc.).
Oh, interesting. Will you keep the gameplay style (keyboard etc.) for the main maps as well?
Rewards will be transferable between overmaps, but not between submaps.
What do you mean? How's that logical? So, any bonuses from the Bonechiller won't work in Solen?
Finishing more than that, can give you greater rewards.
Just make sure you can beat the game without the optional stuff too.
This one could really use some more work storywise. Perhaps some cool plottwist?
Well, it depends on you in the end :)

Nope. All maps stay the same, and the new ones will have the same gameplay as the already finished ones.
What do you mean? How's that logical? So, any bonuses from the Bonechiller won't work in Solen?
The main skills and upgrades, such as damage and health, will be transferred. Other upgrades such as having a hookshot or water walking boots, will not be transferred.
This is my solution so far, but it would be perfect that if you get an item, you always hold on to it, but that causes great problems with the submaps at the moment.
Just make sure you can beat the game without the optional stuff too.
I will. That's why a player must complete 75-80 percent of the optional stuff. If they only complete 75% each map, their final battle with Felore will be really tricky.
Or, perhaps. If you complete none of the optional quests, you will still be able to beat Felore, but you won't be able to kill an optional boss.

Here is the text that will be displayed in some way to the player upon starting the campaign:

Long ago, in northern Kalimdor, the area that we today call Felwood, was thriving and beautiful. Some say that it was the closest thing to a paradise to ever exist on Azeroth.

Starglade.

Starglade was adjacent to Mount Hyjal in the east, the mountain on which the first world tree, Nordrassil, was planted.
In the north-east, there was the cold and calm landscape of Winterspring, in the north there was Moonglade, and to the west, the ancient and ruined land of Darkshore protected the other regions from the unforgiving and endless sea.

Here, in the most beautiful place in the world, a sad and horrifying story took place long ago...

'No, no, no.'
'Too strong. Too loyal. Too smart.'
'We need to keep looking. One of them it is.'
'Decent strength, but very wise. He will not be fooled.'
'How about her then?'
'Pretty strong still. A warrior, but she is narrowminded and blind. This might work.'
'In love too? I think we found the one.'
'Take him.'

It was a wonderful day in Starglade. somewhere in the eastern parts, muffled noises from strong wind echoed between the trees.
'You almost got it!'
In an open field, a night elven huntress in a heavy cloak and armor stood, supporting herself with her hands on her knees.
Shalis caught her breath: 'Do I have to do it in this armor? It is tricky enough already.'
'You have already made a lot of progress without it, love. Also, I figured that practicing Wind Steps as you would use it in battle made sense.'
'I'd rather do it without armor, or any other clothing for that matter, Willow. That would make things a lot more entertaining for both of us.'
Willow blushed. He always considered himself awkward, and situtions like this was not easy to handle for him.
Shalis took a perfect Wind Step towards him. She hugged him, gave him an encouraging smile and said:
'Sorry, but you are just so adorable when you don't know what to say.'
She gently placed a rouge strand of hair behind his ear. An uncontrollable smile haunted Willows lips.
'Shalis Darkhunter...' he said with a dreamy look in his eyes. 'I..'
He got cut off. In the cornor of his eye, he saw a bush in the treeline on his right twitch. He turned his head, and looked towards the treeline. Shalis turned her head too. Trying to catch a glimpse of what he saw, she carefully scanned the treeline. Just before she gave up, she found himself staring into a pair of burning eyes, embedded in the bushes. The eye-contact lasted for half a second, then, a large hound leaped out, and charged at them. Shalis reached for her Moon Blade hanging from her waist. Willow placed his other hand on his staff. Shalis waited with risen blade as the hound got closer. Just as she began to see its demonic features, the blade suddenly felt heavy. The heavy sensation quickly spread to the rest of her body and she felt like the earth tried to swallow her. Trying to reposition her stance, she failed to find the balance in her right foot, which caused her to sidestep and collapse into Willow. He caught her, and turned his head to gaze into her eyes.
'Shalis!'
Limbless like a ragdoll she fell into a sitting position. Willow held her still, and she tried to focus on his eyes, but her vision was hazed, and she could barely keep her eyelids up. With enormous effort, she raised her hand to stroke his cheek... Then, she drifted away into deep sleep.

She woke up a few minutes later with a pounding head and blurry vision. She blinked hard a few times, and extended a hand to massage her neck. What had happened? Her memory was dimmed. She remembered training the Wind Steps with Willow. A teasing joke. An embracement. A pair of eyes... Burning eyes. The hound! She spun on her heels to look about her. No hound, no blood, nothing, not even a handsome elven druid!
'Willow!'
No answer.
'Willow, asnwer me!'
A tree waved merrily in the distance. A bird sang a happy tune. No answer still. Shalis was worried. Willow would never just leave her there. Something must have happened to him. Almost panicing, she closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths to keep calm and think straight. What needed to be done? She opened her eyes with determination.
'I need to go see Felore.'

I was thinking of that first, but that wouldn't casue the slight amnesia, and was much harer to describe.
Well, it could be a more elaborate Sleep spell with mind confusion properties. If it's supposed to be a planned act, then a hit on the head would be risky.
Other stuff you could think about: poison, an enchanted drink etc.

I'll stick to the knock-out for now. Poison wouldn't fit the current scene, which I am quite happy about. That could really fit a concept that I have for a later part though. The sleep-spell is still not a bad idea. I'll see if I can switch to it, and give you a heads up if I do. :)

EDIT: I made a try with the sleep spell instead. :)

A comedic relief that can be found as an extra secret somewhere in the first campaign mission. :)

-The meeting with the High Elves-
Shalis entered the small clearing in the forest, and aproached the two blond elves standing stiff next to each other. The air was thick with some kind of fog, which made it hard to breathe.
'Ash Falanah. Are you alright?'
The woman turned her head to look upon Shalis. She considered her for a moment with sleepy eyes and spoke:
'Heyy...'
The other elf, a thin man, also greeted her.
'Yo Dude.'
'Daughter of Elune, actually.' Shalis stated sharply.
'Ah.'
The blond elves wasn't trying to be rude, but they simply had a hard time comrehending what Shalis just had said. They didn't continue the conversation, so things was quiet for a few seconds. Shalis felt awkward:
'What are you doing in those parts?'
'Dude,' Shalis bit her lip in order not to lose her patience. 'we're here for the fumes dude.'
'The fumes?'
'Ya! The fuuuumes.'
'I don't understand, why are you-'
Shalis was interrupted by the male elf laughing a highpitched and raspy laugh.
'Ha ha! Get it, dude? Because we are High Elves. High. Elves.'
It took a while for the woman to get it, and she was left with a dumb smirk while she struggled to figure it out. When she finally did, she exclaimed:
'Ha! That is hilarious, Rolf! Because we are High Elves! High!
'High Elves? You must be the last of your kind!'
'Hey Rolf, you know... You know what we will call our children? Highborns! Because they are born by me? When I'm high?'
She paused, waiting for Rolf to laugh. He did.
'Hang on.' Shalis said. 'If you have children, they have no one else to have children with. They will be inbred!'
Rolf suddenly got very defensive and gave Shalis an evil look.
'Dude, what are you talking of? In bread? No, they will live a normal life. In a house and stuff.'
'No, I'm saying that-'
'Don't listen to her Rolf! She knows not what she is talking about.'
Rolf tried to frown, and almost succeded to:
'Let's get out of here. This one knows nothing. She is just judgemental and boring.'
They turned around and walked away. Something fell out of Rolf's pocket. He didn't notice. Why would he? He was high as a kite. Rolf spoke one last time:
'Good day to you, dude.'
Then they vanished among the trees.

I like it! This story reminds me Sapkowski`s book series "The Witcher". And this is really awesome, because this is my favourite books :)

Finally got some time (and will) to do a play-through and review the story, as per your request.
Note that I rather like to comment on one's style of writing as opposed to overall "quality" of the material itself, but if you'd like me to re-check it again to give more information about general writing of the story, grammar, punctuation, forming of sentences and my overall opinion of it, feel free to ask me up and I shall drop a review about that when I can.

It's really nice, a fresh and interesting approach story-wise. I love the fact that, while it's still in the same universe, it represents a different time lapse with both similarities (to connect) and differences (to imagine). The story is believable and nicely paced, there's no sudden jumps or stall-ward moments to get bored - it's really dynamic and I like it. But what really impressed me is the ability you've used to add the "basic" human emotions to the story, of course the most powerful ones here being love and fear, which is something I daresay about 95% of people making any sort of story for their maps forget. Your characters learn, adapt and react in their own unique ways, which isn't just making you "grow" to characters themselves, but also provides a very interesting pace on it's own; resulting in those types of stories where you'll put down the book to get some rest, and then after five minutes of staring at the ceiling with eyes like a PotM's Scout Owl, you say "oh fuck it" and then grab the book back to continue.

That's for general style. Grammar-wise and such, it's fine as it is. It could use some more flavoring and re-writing of a few lines, but it's quite enjoyable as it is.

Overall, I'm impressed.
And trust me when I say, that does not happen too often :)

Actually, it is no alternative timeline. It is a hole in Warcrafts lore filled in with some new lore. :)

Agreed. With other things I've been working on, I re-read material in the text that is old, to see if I can develop it into something better. However, I can't do this right away.

Wow, thanks a lot for this feedback!
I'm really proud to be able to impress like this.
This kind of comment rekindles my inspiration and energy for writing another story I started a few years ago. Thanks a bunch!

The preliminary story for chapter two is done. Read it and give me your feedback!
You've decided to first get Shalis through the Twisting Nether like they did with the Warcraft movie whilst in the games, I think the portal was the rift between Draenor and Azeroth.
Well, a thing I don't like in many stories, everybody talking the same language.
The guide was already at the tent opening even knowing what he had to do?
It was suicide for the Draenei to come like that. I don't think that was a smart move. Why not protect their village if they knew they had no real chance up against the stronger force?

Anyways, how is all this going to fit/be integrated into the game?

Thanks for reading! :)

I think you got it the wrong way around. I'm sure that you get to the outland in the games. Not sure about draenor in the movie though, but I think it is. Anyway, that does not have to be canon even if it is wrong. :)

True, but everybody speaks english in the warcraft universe.
The guide was already at the tent opening even knowing what he had to do?
Mindblowing telepathy.
(Yeah I was about to fix this, but forgot about it. Thanks for pointing it out!)

Hopefully it will become more clear in the game, as they will charge the prsion and cut down loads of demons in their wake, making them feel confident they can defeat them.

Anyways, how is all this going to fit/be integrated into the game?
Its gonna be pieces of text like in the first mission. A few more narrative game messages will also be added between those text chunks. :)
It may be a bit too much for everybody, so I will add a small summary of what happened after each big chunk so that players can skip it if they wish, and still know what to do.

What do you think of the way the story is told?

What do you think of the way the story is told?
Well, it's not the present but the past tense. Are you to experience a memory? There are some minor grammar mistakes like not using the plural form of the verb when required (eg: people was instead of were) and some words aren't correctly written (eg: immidiately instead of immediately).
There are some void zones between fragments but I guess those are ingame content (which connect the text paragraphs).
