did someone say free reppy rep rep rep rep?
I saw that and was ready to hand out some hardcore wtfpwnage... well at least link to my big post, because I don't think I could ever repeat such a colossal amount of pwnage about rep in another post ever again....
(preparses for Teh_Ephy's firey wrath) nah im kidding i think that THW deserves the highest rating...what did wc3campaigns ever do for me....?
And then you saved yourself with that.

The Chieftain has added a powerful feature that auto-magically truncates overly large signature files.

Examine Shados' file in the first page of this thread: that's the signature by which all others are now measured. If a signature is of larger dimensions, a scrollbar is now provided.

Hmm. Does this mean that it is now possible to have signatures larger than the previous acceptable without being neg-repped? Or should we still work to keep it within acceptable bounds?

I'm sorry Wolve, but I HATE the scrolling signatures. Really, I hate having to deal with any scrollbars other then the main one along the side. Why? Because when I use my mouse wheel to scroll, I'll magically get locked on someone overlarge signature (including my own) and I'll either have to click off of the damned thing or keep scrolling through it just to scroll up the damned page. This not only looks bad, but it is one hell of an annoyance overall. Make the users with the signatures comply so I don't have to sit here in fury watching as the Hive's navigation is massacred for the sake of having smaller signatures.

Ralle found it absurdly simple to implement the scroll feature.

Potential effects:
  • I think we should keep it in bounds to save loadtime, but I guess you can add more text without punishment.
Users may indeed have excess material in their signatures.

  • I don't see why you should be punished. A scrollbar works fine for me.
Signature files that are greater than the maximum will be scrolled: such files are still susceptible to the assessment of rep penalties at the discretion of moderators, although I myself am rather unlikely to impose any for that reason alone.

  • Make the users with the signatures comply so I don't have to...
I do not have any desire (or time) to play signature police by sending out PMs and following users around complaining about their signature files. Once again, any moderator may impose negative reputation penalties at any time for any valid reason.

Lol everybody is ragging on Shados' sig size.

Edit: For that guy who doesn't like scrollbars either use the one on the right or just act like your using your mouse to drive. RIGHT TURN DODGE SCROLLBAR! LEFT TURN DODGE SIGGY!

Edit2: A even better idea is just to scroll along peoples avatar space.

That would explain what happened to several many of the signature's I've seen. So then I suppose that the vote link should be at the top of one's signature now?

Rui's avatar is gone!
Anyways, I would like uploading of [SIGPIC]s to be enabled again. I'm not sure that's going to happen without size (bytes and pixel) restrictions happening.

Well.. My signature is fine.. And I got some hugh text. I think the lines doesn't apply to the text size, just how many lines of text. But it would apply to images I presume.

Sorry to say, but I think, if people should care about voting, they also would do it in place of using 'put a link in my signature and vote (plz free rep).
Now its free to see which is hunting on reputation.
Almost everyone has 'vote for the hive' in its signature. I don't see the use of it since there is already a vote button which appears to be BIG enough.
Reputation is nothing then a colored image that rotates.
The fact here is just that people should vote on the hive which also could be revealed in many other options in place of getting some reputation wh0r35.

i think adding it to the sigs helps members remember to vote...i was going to add it to mine after Teh_Epthy suggested it but i never got around to it. IMO its not about rep its about building one of the last wc3 communities remaining which hasnt been DotA-ised.

@Heero: I'm quoting that into my rant about rep whores a few pages back.
Also, there's a vote link lying around THW? I didn't even know; that means it's not in a place you'd casually see, even if it is big; thus having an extra link in every other signature on THW isn't a bad idea.
Not to mention that it doesn't hurt THW in any way at all.

Phh. brad.dude03, we've had enough interactions that you should know I'm a hasty dumbfuck. I suppose I've looked at it, but never paid any attention to it. I use the things around it with some measure of frequency, which detracts from the attention I pay to it. People pay attention the least attention to things right next to what they pay frequent attention to, because it's a familiar area.

And uh... yeah feel free to call me blind/an idiot/whatever for not noticing. I'd totally deserve it >_>

Back on topic:

The signature file rules are complete and stand as posted in the FAQ.

Related inquiries:
Oh yeah, did none of you see Whitehorn's post? Voting for the Hive is useless, as that database was abandoned a long time ago and no ones uses it anymore.... so says he anyway.
According to my research that database is still updated on a daily basis: Information, Statistics, Graphs

  • Give me two weeks to see who's interested in promoting our voting link. If I don't rep you by 15 June, send me a PM!
I have added to the reputation of many users who have the voting link visible in their signature files. Please contact me if I seem to have missed you.

Can we request to have the signature image upload back?
(I BELIEVE that) Ralle has disabled further sig image uploads, hence all new signature images must be hosted elsewhere.
The Chieftain has disabled the image uploads himself. That feature will not be reimplemented: he wants signature images to be hosted elsewhere.

But why is that, when it's so much easier to upload them here? Besides it seems that the limit size is extremly small, so it can't take up that much space.
I tend to agree because images hosted here would be most stable: they couldn't fail even if ImageShack (or whatever other hosting site) were to experience downtime.

However, I'm not prepared to argue with the Chieftain about it: he possesses the ultimate authority to decide what content will be permitted on his server/site.

Signature Files

The eight line limit, the disabling of the scrollbar and the simple truncation of over-sized signatures has certainly streamlined our boards.

The difficulties that most users are having seems to relate to the use of the vBulletin [QUOTE] and [box] tags. Both tags require a certain amount of additional vertical space that may cause signature files to exceed the designated limit. Dispensing with the use of those tags can regain a good bit of vertical space, allowing additional flexibility.

Take a look at Ralle's current signature to see a fine example of the powerful use of the [table] tags:

A great many links are included; with the current vBulletin character limit set at 1,500 more could surely be added.

Due to complications with some web browsers auto playing certain sound files, the staff has decided that the VBulletin [sound][/sound] tags may no longer be used in our signature files.

Apologies to anyone that has included them in the past. There seems to be a conflict (can we all say bug?) between the tags, certain specific sound files, and some user's web browsers.

Sounds may still be linked in signature files using the [/URL][/URL] tags.
