As we each know, the internet is a way to get and give information worldwide. It is the most used ressource of information. Internet is what each of you who are reading this uses each day. The uses range from watching a video on youtube to posting in a forum about anything you want to.

Ok... So this is the internet as we know it. But it might change. In fact, the Network Neutrality is in peril.

The nation's largest telephone and cable companies — including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner — want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow and which won't load at all.

They want to tax content providers to guarantee speedy delivery of their data. They want to discriminate in favor of their own search engines, Internet phone services, and streaming video — while slowing down or blocking their competitors.

These companies have a new vision for the Internet. Instead of an even playing field, they want to reserve express lanes for their own content and services — or those from big corporations that can afford the steep tolls — and leave the rest of us on a winding dirt road.

The big phone and cable companies are spending hundreds of millions of dollars lobbying Congress and the Federal Communications Commission to gut Net Neutrality, putting the future of the Internet at risk.

Well, for more information on this subject you can visit

And sign the petition for the Net Neutrality if you want the internet to be free.

It appears to me, the world is becoming what a man by the name George Orwell feared the most. Big Brother will swallow our world whole, and when he's done, he'll make sure places like the internet become a highway where tyranny and individual disappearance are common place. Yes folks, the world is truly on a path where the end truly justifies the means...

"He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark mustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother" (George Orwell, 1984)

poor americans :> thats what you get for your freaking fast connections!

btw no one cares about internet petitions

America has one of the least-developed ISP industries out there. Compared to Europe, America is still in the stone ages, as most people still have either dial-up, cheap DSL or 'broadband' which is just a fancy term for 256K.

i think this debate is quite old....like 2 years old. and since then i think some new legislation has been put in place which stops this from happening as much, or new laws are going to be passed soon. its the same idea as market monopolisation when a company legally cannot control more than 33% of the market to help compotition and the economy. basically the internet has already been saved; im not 100% sure tho coz i only saw a brief article on the net about it. anyways my connection is fine so i dont care.

Currently, no company in the US is actually doing this kind of stuff, but there are no laws against it, so the possibility for some type of biased web is very open.

Gas is needed by everyone too, but here in Canada the corporations are charging over a dollar a litre for it, when onlh 5 years ago it was roughly 70-80 cents.

These people, if they win, will certainly keep the internet open, but the way it will work is: the more important the site (aka the bigger the megacorporation your trying to find on the internet) the faster the page will load. So that way, www.cingular.com would load normally, where www.mctwisted.net would load very, very, slowly.

This is physically impossible. 4chan would stop it, or at least talk about it a lot. They'd probably be the very first site to die.

Well if it was possible, I'd hope Gaia Online is the one of the first sites companies decide to kill. Aside from the fact that Gaia is killing the best part of 4chan, it's just such a large collection of enormous idiots and furries in one place... Furries on their own is bad enough, enormous idiots on their own is bad enough... *shudder* Gaia gets them all on one website...

About gas, in the US it's more or less USD 3.00 a gallon, and the oil companies are making record profit. I think Canada has it easy in regard to evil corporations.

Hmm, you're actually right. At least we don't have it as bad as Europe does.

Yeah, 4Chan is not only useless but a breeding ground for uselessness that almost rivals GaiaOnline. At least 4Chan uselessness is fun(ny).

I got the internet for e-mail, I'm still using it because of things in this order: porn, THW, 4Chan, online gaming.

Flame the hell out of people for not being aware of it, not for raising awareness of it. I mean, God, it's 4Chan, freaking anonymous posting, and Anonymous: knows everything, can hack everything, could raid any site, has porn of it, etc. Even though it's an image board. Also, thank God for the board that shall not be discussed, it lets people get their daily jackass out. And it also utterly destroys minds, but that's part of the fun.
