i mean like they play bad as in actually play bad, not play bad in a "new player way" but in a "noob insulting game crashing way". there's a big difference in that.

DotA isn't bad, It was my favorite map in 2004, community in that time was nice, now community is bad, at least I have managed to play some friendly DotA games...

I don't realy get why people say that DotA "sux", I ask em reason why they suck, most of people just give me some stupid excuse -.-

dota doesn't really suck. they just say it cause alot of maps they host aren't noticed cause of dota.

tip: download GG and host maps in RPG/tree tag/vamp/other rooms that doesn't have the word dota in it.

no it's a fact. just look at garena, in the philippines there's like 94 rooms for dota and some more for shop to shop dota. and how many for other maps? not even half of that, and only 1/4 of those rooms gets populated, some doesn't even have players at all.

sorry for double post.

Not true. That's assuming that if these players didn't play DotA they wouldn't play WC3, but there's nothing supporting that at all. I'd say on the contrary, if there was no DotA, they'd simply play other maps - Starcraft is from the 20th century, doesn't have DotA, yet it still has plenty of activity [even excluding the Koreans, the normally non-Asian servers like US East are still active].

I've said this quite a few times [even once on hive but it looks like that thread was deleted]:

The most prominent reasons for DotA's popularity is the roots and base it established through Reign of Chaos. Back then, DotA had some "nifty" features like custom abilities and skins/models despite the fact that the ordinary Reign of Chaos editor did not have this capacity, setting it apart from the RoC crowd. Couple this with the fact that the earlier creators started tournaments involving monetary rewards, and you then have the gathering of a large player-base which dominated near everything else in the Reign of Chaos days, and thus created the trend we see today, the large pre-existing base establishing itself.

Now don't get me wrong, DotA isn't of crappy mapmaking quality or anything like that - however, there's more to a game than mere technical production; the overall fun that you pump out of it is key. But yes, many of you enjoy it and find it plenty of fun. On the other hand, the way it's designed brings up an issue - the whole of it essentially revolves around background knowledge.

But I know what you're gonna say - all maps are like that! Not at all, DotA is uniquely premised on it - for example, in LotR maps like WotJ and RW, or historical-strategy maps, like Shadows of the Confederacy, WW1, Rise of China - I can get the concept of it, and past experience with one map in the category provides sufficient capability to perform decently in any other map of the genre. That's different with DotA. It doesn't matter if I've played Tides of Blood or a few dozen other AoSes, I'll still have absolutely no idea what item-sets and hero-combinations are the best way to go, and for DotA, that determines near everything. There's simply no time to sit there and stare at shop vendors and item recipes. Add this to an increasingly elitist crowd, the combination proves an even greater concern. A lit match by itself isn't particularly disastrous. Nor is a bundle of dynamite. Put the two together, and Harvey Dent's face don't got nuthin' on you...

My beef ain't that DotA "sucks." It's just that it's overrated, and what results because of that.

I hate it because of its poor communtiy, in all the dota games I tried playing, everyone was a dick and just spammed crap like, cunt, nigger, etc. And then a hero dies and everyone leaves, thats how every of the dota games I played were like, opple calling others noobs, etc. Has a horrible community, thus I dislike it.

Dota is a good map. But it is not the only good map. It is not so much better then, say, Footmen Frenzy, Battleships, Enfo's, or War of the Lost Kingdoms that it deserves to be 9 out of every ten games hosted.

The bottom line: Dota is fun, but it would be nice to see something new once in a while.

Dota isn't better, people just choose not to explore, and just stick with the same game. Like that one guy said a few posts back, it started with reign and grew on tft, I bet half the community rarely plays anything but dota.

@LlamaNamedOsama

i've played other AoS maps (naruto something, age of myths(which was pretty cool), tides of blood, and some AoS RPG) and it's not that hard to adjust with the item recipes, cause i'm not the only one taking alot of time looking for the secret shop :p

and dota is good because "Icefrog" compiles all good ideas into one. anyone used the new hero, tauren chieftain?

oh, and seriously, there's alot of good models on warcraft, and i haven't seen some of them in maps yet (well, maybe a creep, but not a hero)

Say: "You're playing bad, but we started like you"?

/me is polite

Welcome to the chain of elitiest gaming!

First you start as the shittalky, aka noob.

Then you progress and become good at the game (assuming you're not retarded and can't learn how to click stun)and shittalk others!

Half the fun in dota is shittalking people who suck. If you don't like it become good at the game and shittalk me back.

DotA is a great map, but I never thought it would take over Warcraft III so well. Its well made and good for multiplayer games, also including the AI when your bored. I'm not sure about my taste, but DotA is rather overall great and should be played for those beginners out there who just started Warcraft III.

And its still going, and well organized. I'm sure IceFrog will do well. For the Blizzard they probably need to add some server of maps or some excitement, something like that. Patches haven't been much excitement currently, but fixes...

Exactly :p, you're "not the only one taking alot of time looking for the secret shop" - ie, you don't have trouble when everyone else is new too. But when the implications are that A) when people aren't new, then..., and B) since DotA on the other-hand is so prevalent since it was entrenched so early, you have nearly everyone already familiar with the map and creating the same imbalanced learning curve mentioned above that is unique to DotA. XD

Good point, and make those noobs not host Dota in the melee rooms coz it's getting majorly annoying. I play Dota rarely and only with a friend of mine. But it's so full of flamming should you do ONE thing wrong.

Dota can burn, I don't care and yet I'm impressed because this game rules with its competitivity, that's what brings players up. I like competitive gaming btw. It's not mapmaking and models that made me play war3 for so long, it's the competing that takes years. I think this is the mystery of how Dota dominates - Competition.

flamers are more in game then on comunities in DoTA ............. if nooobs cant live up to team mates expectations e1 leaves tht just might prove to be the point where the supposed 'new bie ' will quit and stop playin DoTA coz of tht ...... there fore on a positieve not wc3 will be played more if the new bie know s or DoTA will lose popularity

On the other hand a player actually plays good and gets praised then he will play DoTA like hell and popularity increases....zzzzzz so it's like there is a balance of game popularity just like item and hero balancin g :p zzzzzzz. so tht's how i see DoTA .... both point of views hypocrisy ...so be it :)

well, yeah. the competitive scene makes it famous and lasts long. but...

RPG maps would last long "IF" they get updated. and not all RPG maps should have floating items just to show you got a sword and an armor, custom icons, models, skins, and skills.

but i'd like toms of customs skills over anything else. or items with great story background and names+heroes with cool concepts.
