Peacefull Valley

Gameplay

This Valley named Hardrell Region has been a tranquil region in Eastern Lordaeron. Free from interlopers and thieves, this region receives many visitors and refugees especially from the Brill region where as of late the bandit reign has risen again. Enjoy the scenery and take a breath of fresh air, go fishing, grow crops or explore this safe valley!
This map has been designed as a template. It can be used as a cinematic location or RPG map etc.
I used entirely in-game models, I only imported two skins!

Enjoy the sight and feel free to criticize.

Had a quick look through in the template and I must say, I am very impressed by the terrain. The terrain is neat.

To start off, the terrain is flat but even though that is the case, I can see quite fine because raising and lowering further the terrain might ruin the whole environment in my case actually. Sometimes, there are terrains that are meant as it is be. The doodads/destructibles were placed wisely and neatly but I would kind of worried on their sizes, some looks improper such as the Inn near the farmlands, it looks the Corn plants are much more taller and bigger than the Inn which looks very unrealistic. Same goes for the Tents.

The small village part of the terrain looks good but I would suggest adding much more structures such as light sources (e.g: Post Lanterns, Torches, and etc), farm equipments seeing that the village is nearby a farm (e.g: Hays, Carts, Humps, and etc.) and etc. The houses there as well looks spammed here to be honest and if we are to view it realistically, some doors are blocked which I think deserves attention from you.

Some of the water parts in the terrain could be improved and the way the Lily Pads were spammed looks unnatural and even how you formed the smiley part in the water (I did noticed that, lol!).

But overall, I guess this is acceptable. Rated 3/5 and Approved!

Well, i agree with Hell_master, the village looks ok, but, still need something, also, maybe you could add come fountain with some bench wood, some flowers and such. But overall, the terrain is really nice, you have made a good work! :)

Is there a reason that the units can walk in the water? Do the units on this map just love water or does the water not work correctly?

Don't test it using JNGP or remove your MiscDate.txt

Welp, here is my thought.

Seeing a Hein-chan terrain template, my expectations to it suddnly reach the roof that I can't get it back anymore. But dwelling inside the map I must say that I'm really disappointed. I'm pretty sure that you can do way more than this I mean this is Hein-chan we're talking about.

But I'll go with the good stuffs first.

The atmosphere of the terrain truly lives up to its name. Its the first thing that really struck me before the bad stuffs suddenly punch my jaw. I guess the main reason is your beautiful way of tile brushing. New terrainers and other mediocore terrainers should learn how to brush tile like this.

Next thing is the good spamming of rocks that make them look like one big chunk of rock, only few terrainers really get the right way of doing that so I applaud you that.

Another good thing is the good aesthetic design of the terrain. It looks really natural, beautiful and enjoying to explore(although for some reason, it kinda look familiar to me).

Oh and the field is probably the best part of the terrain.

Now the bad things.

I can't believe how someone as good as you can fuck up a village as bad as this. Poor choice of asset, poor execution, flatness and the aesthetic is just so difficult to bear and doesn't live up to the rest of the terrain. This village is the center of attraction of the terrain so it should have been the part you worked the most.

You also missed a lot of easily seen, empty spaces which can be improve easily.

Also you should have made some more heighten places to compliment around the terrain. A great example of an area that you can heighten is the northern east and northern west part of the map(the camp site with fountain and the cave).

Also, I'm not much of hater of War3's default bridge but you could have made a custom one that can look more natural and less Warcraftish with the right assets. It will certainly makes the terrain more refreshing.

Anyway, the terrain is really neat and fresh but it really just lack the impact(which is supposed to be delivered by village part..) and uniqueness that someone like you can easily deliver if you really given this terrain more time and love.

3/5.

I dislike the tree model and it could use some more plant doodads. Houses look a bit too clumped together and that part of the village could use something like a center - lets say a fountain or something. Remove the lily pads from center of the river on the left side cause it looks unnatural and remove some of them from the river bank. Nature is random.

Thanks for peeking at it:wink:

Very beautiful :)
You know I've been trying to make something like this, I mean I had the same idea in mind, to use it for a campaign, but you put it beautifully.

EDIT: I tested it myself in the editor, it blew my mind. I love many of your ideas and the doodad combinations.
