This bundle is marked as pending. It has not been reviewed by a staff member yet.
This is a part of an ongoing effort to explore the possible style of faithful Warcraft 3 remaster - Warcraft 3 Classic HD.

Classic HD version of Necropolis, with all original upgrades and animations + minor particle tweaks. Undead buildings use a shared Birth animation model.

This model has following texture paths:
  • Buildings\Undead\Necropolis\CreepyNecropolis_HD.blp
  • Buildings\Undead\Necropolis\CreepyStreams_HD.blp
Changelog:
  • Team color fixes*, following this discussion;
  • Changes to texture paths**, based on this poll;
  • Various fixes, mostly sanity checker warnings.
* Team color now has a 10% of unshaded layer to make it a bit more visible at night and bring closer to units and buildings with brighter values.
** Models now have longer texture paths, relative to the originals. Example: Buildings\Undead\SlaughterHouse\SlaughterHouse.blp. This was done for modding purposes, because War3HD assets are made to replace the classic models using local files.
  • Fixed sanity check warnings.
  • Fixed team color issues that caused the building to get tinted with team color during placement.
  • Added upscaled version of graveyard ghosts for work animation.

Necropolis | Warcraft Classic HD (Model)

Great work, very neat and precise, these bricks, cracks and smooth geometry are just healing to the eyes. The highlighting on the textures next to the green water is a particularly nice little detail. I always wondered why they didn't take the HoTS graphic design, already a lot of ready-made material, and put it here, almost exactly what you do, I mean how it turns out visually.

P.S. It looks like the glow in the spire in T3 was disabled by mistake, unlike the original.

Hmm, strange. Whenever someone is a fan of the game this much, that they want to make art like this, usually some type of dystopian thing comes into their life and stops them from working. It's like the curse of Warcraft III, that it is never allowed to be handled well.

i think they must make category "SD-HD" specifically for your models :D
True. Though sadly, I don't know if other people would be willing to keep up with the raised quality or poly of these Classic HD graphics. It would be awesome it was a group effort too. But if a Classic HD category was ever made, this should be the standard quality of the models. Still for Classic graphics, but more detailed.

Classic models are still the same quality as the very game. But if they have been doing better and better (more detailed) models, it would've been a great start. But yeah, they're almost like the same as the vanilla classic models already for now. Ported models, however, are okay as far as I've seen. Just need more sharpness and whatnot.

I hope that you don't get cancer from the curse from making art this good. Remember not to eat off of Teflon pans.
I've seen this happen in many games that are moddable. An individual or even group of people would start an ambitious project, but they will never finish the thing due to burnout or personal life issues. One example I could think of are the many mods for Skyrim. I've subscribed or invested in overhauls, specifically a supposed all-out NPC overhaul like WICO (you can look that one up). But then they just suddenly stopped because of the amount of characters needed to be redone, like the models and icons for the classic Warcraft III alone.

What if the scope expands and one tries to create a simplified version of Reforged models to the same poly and quality as LongbowMan's Classic HD models. I mean, that'd be cool, but it's going to be a great undertaking. Someone on Discord is already making a Classic HD remaster/remake of the icons, and I hope they finish and publish them in the future. That'd cool.

That's probably the main reason I keep posting as soon as something is ready. I'm just a mortal human being, having to work full time, occasionally going through emigration, divorce, and other troubles. People definitely burn out on big projects - I try to keep it casual so I don't feel unreasonably anxious about this hobby.

One of the ideas behind this art direction (and IMHO, Blizzard should have thought about it as well, when planning Reforged) is to make everything more detailed without setting the bar too high for a hobbyist 3D modeller to reach. I can imagine people reusing my textures or pieces of models to create nice and simple assets of matching style without too much hastle. There are talented artists here who make stunning models using standard textures - in fact, some of them would blend really well with my Classic HD assets.

It would be awesome it was a group effort too.
I mean, I would be happy to collaborate, but most professional artists have better things to do :gg:
Seriously, imagine spending all this time to create models for asset stores instead, or freelancing. That would earn me a few extra salaries already.

Your work is wonderful, a breath of fresh air without a doubt. The path Blizzard should have taken.

If it's not too much trouble, what software do you use? Do you do this professionally?

No trouble at all. For this project I use Maya, Substance Painter, Photoshop, and Retera MS. Yes, I work as a 3D Artist :wink:
