Map file too big

Warcraft 3 wont open my map becaues it says "Map File is too big, please select other map", but I can open this normally with Wolrd Editor. What should I do ? Is this the map size, like 2 MB, 800 KB, etc ? I've seen map with bigger size that don't have this problem.

EDIT: Based on the main map creator I can't give nothing right now without finishing and protecting the map. OMG, isn't there anything you can do without it ? :/

the question is approaching andreasaspenberg's questions....no we cant, you should at least state how big the map is, maybe at least provide screenshot of the error, but the map would be greatest, protected or not

What does the OS report the "Size" of the map archive to be? If I recall the WC3 multiplayer limit is 8,388,608 Bytes (8bit unit).

Remove imported sounds/music first.
Then remove models, etc that you're not using.

Then remove the models you are using.

There is not much you can do to compress model files.

You can "compress" model files using MDX Squisher (here) or GhostWolf's MDX/M3 optimizer (here).

Other than that, do what Radicool suggested and you should be able to get your file size down. 11 MB is not that much at all. You can easily take it below the limit if your stuff are currently uncompressed. Just use those tools.

Remember that the 8MB limit only applies to multiplayer play. You can play a map no matter how large in single player. (There may be some limit, but you'll never hit that.)

/\ and isn't there anyway to bypass this ? Like "screw 8mb" ? The compressor worked for me, 5 mb the file is now. But I'm afraid if soon it happens again

You can basicly use a custom MPQ to exchange default textures, models, sounds etc. ... this works in multiplayer aswell. But every player needs to download and have the MPQ to see the imports. Every other player will have the default models and sounds.

It is not possible to remove the limit in multiplayer maps outside of LAN because any modification of data could trigger Blizzard's Warden system which may eventually ban your account and CD keys.

On the bright side, having to work within limits is more than often not a bad thing at all.
