Well, I think these are some very good examples of "the best", but I also think that Corexx has a good point. So I have this idea:
Why not make public votings for the jury's consideration? I mean, while random viewers may not know an awful lot about terrain art, their opinions are still very important if this thread is to become and stay more popular than the Legendary thread once was, and if it isn't going to feel like a "guide to good taste".

I strongly recommend that the jury use a similar way to listen carefully to the mainstream opinion, but have the final say. Should they continuosly ignore people's opinions then maybe someone should be replaced.

If you want the jury to add terrains you have to post them here first. Then the jury will review the terrains. Next time the terrain is being updated we will include all the terrains you have posted by then in the review, and eventually change the list. So actually everyone can be part of selecting terrains.

But if we want to keep the quality of the thread up I think it is necessary that terrainers do the judging, not random viewers. We are judging the terrains as objectively as possible. Of course each individual jury member has their own taste, but that only makes the reviews more balanced.

I think the way it works now is great, and the list will most likely change next time we update it.

Uhm... The thing is that if you want the jury to add terrains you have to post them here first. Then the jury will review the terrains. Next time the terrain is being updated we will include all the terrains you have posted by then in the review, and eventually change the list then. So actually everyone can be part of selecting terrains.

Perhaps I mislead. I only meant to suggest measuring the opinions, as a handy and interesting thing to keep track of, both for the jury and everyone else. This was not in meant in the genre of criticism.

who is in this Jury again ?

and how come im not in the jury =( im a terrainer too lol

The Jury consists of:

Me, Megafyr, FrIkY, Destructor [Dor], Arcany and raid1000.

All selected by me because of their ability to see the good and bad in any terrain, as well as keeping active and serious in the matter. As for now I think there are enough members, too many cooks and it will turn out bad you know.
Even so, if anyone of the current members become inactive then I will not hesitate to replace him, your chance might come deathunter :)

Also, edited the main post to point out that everyone can suggest terrains to be reviewed uppon each new batch.

Polls... never bring polls into a decision to be made by people who will take the actual time to think about and criticize a terrain, people who know what to value and what to judge.

My experience with polls isn't exactly a good one. I can predict to you what will happen: A lot of noobs will come by, check out the first terrain and go OMG WTF AWESUM!!!!!! and then vote for that one.

I and the other judges take great care in picking out the right, really well made terrains; not a few terrains the masses run away with made by a rather well known person.

In the end polls will fail, no doupt about it. Even so, it is the people, the users of the site that suggests terrains, and if their not content with the current list; well then come forth with the terrains you wish would be there.

There is but one reason; because it looks extremely great >.>

And that is also the reason we dont have comments from each judge under the screens, simply because this isnt a thread to value technique or to critique terrains, it is to show off great looking terrains. And I hate to repeat myself:

If you dont like the current list then SUGGEST terrains to be added for the next update, damn it.

The reason "Morning Tundra" is up here is that somebody suggested it. Then after giving all the suggested terrains a score, it turned out Morning Tundra came quite high on the list. If you do not agree with the results, and want to change them feel free to suggest new terrains.

We only had fifteen suggestions when we made the first list. If we have more suggestions this list will most likely change.

It's the least inspired in there. The rising sun is just not done well, no detail on the horizon, the ground is barren, the tiling is nothing special and really, it just lacks any sort of impact. It's bland. These terrains are supposed to be mind-bogglinh and make you wonder how the heck the terrainer made it.

The list have now been updated and some changes have been made.

Do not forget that you can be a part of changing which terrains stays and which terrains does not, nominate your favorite terrain and maybe IT will get on the list :)

I might consider resizing the pics that isnt the same as the rest.. eventually.

The opinion of the Jury under every picture in the list would be interesting. For example, I would like to know the reasons for "Morning Tundra" being in the list.

There is but one reason; because it looks extremely great >.>

And that is also the reason we dont have comments from each judge under the screens, simply because this isnt a thread to value technique or to critique terrains, it is to show off great looking terrains.

Well the 4th just happens to look great.
