Contest Theme: Hive Workshop Userbars

Each contestant must create one or more userbars for Hive Workshop members' signatures.

Userbars are small rectangular images that are designed to be put in an Internet forum signature block. Userbars may be animated if the artist wishes. They are often used to show the user's interests, hobbies, or graphical skills. Userbar standards are often strictly defined and enforced by communities to ensure that they all have a neat appearance when animated or when stacked vertically. Although there is some variation, most are not wider than 350 pixels and not higher than 19 pixels so they can fit in with other userbars.

Contest Rules And Conditions

1. No userbar may violate any site rules.
   
2. As there is some dispute over standard userbar design, userbars created for this contest must conform to the following:
   • 350 pixels wide and 19 high.
   • Userbar text must use the Visitor[²] font, and also not be bold, and have no anti-aliasing, with a 1 pixel stroke.
   • 'Gloss' effect (Generally, half a white ellipse (Although occasionally other shapes are used) on the top half of the userbar, with sufficient transparency).
   • 1 pixel scanlines are necessary, preferably top-right to bottom-left (
     Here is an example of what I mean by 'gloss' and 'scanlines').
     
   • Userbars must be in PNG format, or GIF for animated userbars.
   • Optional: A 1 pixel border.
3. Userbars may be created for the Hive and its users in general, for specific ranks or groups in the Hive, or even for individual members of the Hive.
   
4. Animated userbars are allowed, but if used each frame of the animation must conform to the rules.
   
5. Completed userbars must be physically attached to this thread.

Contest Judging And Voting

• 30% of the judging shall be determined by the contest's appointed judge (myself).
  
  
• 70% of the judging shall be determined by the results of a public poll.

Contest Dates And Deadline

All userbars must be complete and submitted 10 days after the contest begins.
The contest shall begin on Thursday the 30th of August 2007 and conclude on Sunday the 9th of September 2007 7:00 AM, GMT.
The public poll will be open for a further five days, until Friday the 14th of September.​

It's good, but I think that a rectangle would be a lot better for the gloss effect (look at mine), and the font should be a bit bigger,Visitor TT1, size 10.

Just started working on them trying to get an idea of what I want to do. Heres an Admin userbar.

I want to try and stay consistant with the symbols everyone already knows (shaman = admin, grunt = resource mod, etc.)

Edit:
Played around a little more with the Admin userbar and added a simple and stylish glow animation to it. (glow loops every 10 seconds).

When you type your text, rasterize the text layer, then double click on the layer image then go to strokes then select 1px and black color and ok.

EDIT: Erm, sorry to ask again... buthowdoyouaddscanlines? I searched for it in help and looked most everywhere I could find, since I doubt it's a 'make layer with line, lather rinse repeat' thing. >.<

I just went to the website thing posted in the main thread post, made a blank bar with just the scanlines, saved that image to the disk, opened it with photoshop, then alpha'd out the white parts. After that, i stuck it over my gradient, changed the opacity settings, and went on my merry way.

DesKaladA, I hardly call that a copycat. Especially when Herio-san's is vastly superior to yours, mainly because he made it manually, whereas you just stuck an image into the userbar website.
