I think my spell damage is being effected by armor

Hi

I've made a few custom spells for a map but I think they are being effected by armor. For all of them I have set the attack type as "Spells" and damage type as "Normal". Should these be different if I want them to act as normal spells?
 
It may be the type of armor. For example, Hero armor-type reduces spell damage taken by 25% (or was it 15%?) - check Gameplay Constants.

Edit #2:
From the charts in the link above, it seems that damage type "normal" is indeed reduced by armor value.
