Noob maps existed since the dawn of orc kind, the new limit is just going to make these maps bigger, not more popular or spam battle.net.

your favorite maps will have some chance of having "their own look, sound and feel" and nobody is going to suffer too much.

its not like you *have* to play the noob maps now that they are 8mb.

For some maps, this is really a good thing.
    Others, not so much.
I personally like to keep maps small, and fast.
I have a 3.98MB map I'm working on (I'm not the original maker, but I have permission (in a way)). By the time I'm done with it, it's going to be 1.5-2.*MB map.
The only reason it's going to be that large, is I plan on using a "high-quality loading screen", which I might not even do.
I'm also going to convert all the triggers to JASS and opimize the code.

I'm going to do everything to ensure it's fun, small, and fast.

Honestly I see only positive with 8 MB. It gives a lot more leeway to maps like *cough* DotA which have almost no large imports whatsoever. There are many cool things you could do with 4 more MB. Music in Zombie games sometimes makes all the differance depending on how creepy it is.

Some epic campaign somewhere can be made multiplayer now that there is more room!

That's what's gonna happen - Icefrog will add one or two models and with time it will increase in KBs but since these 4 MB cover what's in dota, it will hardly reach the new limit.

Just to clarify, the max file size has been doubled, but the map's actual dimensions are the same right?

Yes, maps can now be 8 MB in size.

Hm, just reinstalled that demonic game, and that now8mb-thing was a good point in making me do so o.o

for AoS-maps with custom heroes it's a big win, I think.
I also couldn't see much differences on lan-partys between such custom-AoS maps (not DotA, dammit) and other scenarios which use custom spells and stuff.
It's the amount of scripts that slows the game, not the models.
It only affects the download speed in Battle.net.

But I say it is the same as it is with offering your own torrents:
Don't host something unless you aren't able to offer the speed!
If you're surfing on the internet using an old router from 1995 and it works, fine, but playing online games just will be no fun for you or other players.

stop screwing around with that 'noob-stuff' - all of you started without much knowledge. you just don't need to join those games.
for music, you can simply turn off the ingame-music. 4 buttons to press, IIRC.

    Now the question part:

Did they remove/increase the normal amount of possible doodads/objects?

By the way, I wouldn't mind to have the mapsize-limit increased to 10mb, wouldn't make much of a difference.
If they'd have increased it in steps of 1mb per patch you wouldn't even have noticed ;)

Anyway, after that months, are there any experience-reports? =)

Think of the different things people can come up with, maybe a new type of map (unlike the commonly seen TDs, Mauls, AoS, RPGs, FPS, RTS and other common stuff), since they have more space to add new ideas...

Just wanted to throw another comment in there.
If your map is 8 mb big, you've probably gotta select a few more optimize options.. or figure out another way to lower that, because that's a bit ridiculous.

Thats only because Wc3's primitive way of handling downloads, current worldwide average internet speed is around 1.4mb/s down and 300kb/s up.

But even with 100kb/s, with which you can play Wc3, 8mb would be no problem, it's just how Wc3 does things that your stuck to I think it was 1/10th of your max speed (?)
