Those who are dying to play Heart of the Swarm should know that there is a series of user-made altered melee maps in Europe Battle.Net (at least) with the units and abilities included in the upcoming StarCraft II expansion. I gave it a try today and, while not perfect, it gives you a taste of what's to come, such as encasing mineral fields with that Oracle! You'll see Dark Protoss models being used as substitutes, but it can be considered close to a demo. It is coupled with the Protoss and Terran changes currently on the PTR (e.g. Forge upgrades cost reduction). Most curiously, a few mods by the names of "BlizzardDOTAData", "Stariablo", "Ghost" and "Smash" have also been subtly added to our Mods folder inside the main StarCraft II installation folder. They appear in the listing if, inside the StarCraft II Editor, you open up Dependencies and click Add Other, but I haven't actually tried to experiment adding them.
Here's a translated poem we ran across recently while dealing with reports. It's not exactly funny, but a few of the sentences have made me and Vengeancekael grin. Check it out.
My name is Ming the way of self-described
childhood teacher that I want trouble
I love writing formula I hate I do not want to face exam
requirement I hate my hair style you
my way of thinking no one can inhibit the
adults are stubborn I blame the stubborn ignorance
I understand dealing with people has its own mode
, but does not mean that all people have to become Confucius
turned 15 year, I contracted poison music
through my notes to help lower my heart
but I still can not wake up to reality in art

homesick when I turn on the computer hard creation
of the Malaysian flag on the wall is my sustenance
family portrait goes on the bed I always cheer

music, whether there are working hard with me
because I have not changed my ideals or my
dreams I have my own that they will go
even longer lonely
impulse to please forgive me I had a good
rain storm I'm not afraid to drown I
decided to go before the
trip even if I can not go back again epilepsy rather
it was a late 2007's summer
anthem adapted from the event changed my life
through the Internet I got into trouble
, but I insisted that I was no fault of treason
someone wants to kill some people say I Let me return to
kowtow to admit I took the opportunity to succeed politicians
hype the media has with reporters from around the world call me
I have to learn to calm
rumors of more and more people into fear
and even send people to sneak into the road map to my
mom and dad I'm sorry not to upset

although you regard me as a public figure
but I must hold to maintain a personal creative elements
I have my own dreams that they will take
even longer lonely
impulse to please forgive me I had a good
rain storm I'm not afraid to drown I
decided to move forward go
even further insane journey I can not go back quite
some people say my work poison young people thinking
that my mind was all cranky
that I Luanjiang social cancer that is itchy I
also blame me into his son's idol
I would have had to face attacks used to
keep silent smile is my best answer
posturing has never been my strong suit
but I have to go stroll fitted pseudo-disguised
my email every day to complain
but I am helpless because I was not the government
encourage you to my facebook I slander I
did not delete the Pure Land because it is freedom of speech
I want to let you hear so you see
I want to say my films and my music
freely wandering scale edge free of
the mainstream media that never see the world
I stand different point of view I will not stop
this train of thought is a gift God gave me
you said I confused you even want me to convince
me that I was sorry my attitude
here crowded pit road pit hole
a I might accidentally get out of control here
is difficult to go this route but I have not looked back
I have my own dreams that they will take
even longer lonely
impulse to please forgive me I will make good
wind storm I fear I will drown
decided to move forward take
even longer journey I can not go back quite epilepsy

Over the next few days, you might spot changes occurring in our Hosted Projects category. We have been considering a few new hosted projects and archiving old ones. While our hosting is not perfect, we will also be reflecting on the possibility of requiring map leaders to use exclusively the forums that we have provided, regardless of other websites used for advertisement purposes.

Asomath won "What Mod is this? #1" by rightfully guessing that the track belonged to Counterstrike at Quel'Thalas. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed, but I uploaded the rest of David Vaughan's compositions to the main post. I'm also going to track down two other tracks that he composed for another race of the mod.» highelf1.mp3, highelf2.mp3, highelf3.mp3.

Closing notes: check out the new BlizzCon 2011 wallpapers, as well as the photo gallery, if you're interested, and know that "StarCraft Art of War" is back — this time it's about scouting(American server only).

Why havent this been a requirement by now? Obviusly a project should only base on one place. And i think some projects might leave due to that requirement.. or wont apply in the future.

Does this mean us hosted ones can't have even a thread about our project on another site? Also, when our maps are finished, are we also forced to upload our finished map only to the Hive?

Most curiously, a few mods by the names of "BlizzardDOTAData", "Stariablo", "Ghost" and "Smash" have also been subtly added to our Mods folder inside the main StarCraft II installation folder. A lot of garbage mods have existed in your folder structure for ages (a good part of a year now). This is almost certainly due to blizzard using the same source repository that the game uses to help develop their mods (or atleast they did at some stage).

Until recently the mods have been mostly garbage. They included a few custom data files and the blizzard dota mod included their current trigger script (although without any localization so all names were garbage). Maybe these mods are approaching completion so we can soon try them.

People, quit being overly melodramatic. I think I was clear, but I'll explain again: you can have 90 advertisement websites and one or two threads in whatever forums you choose to further publicize your map, but if you request hosting here, you may only use the forums that we made available to you, meaning, no other website can have a discussion forum solely for your work.
For example, "The Kingdom of Kaliron" has our forums, the forums of their website, and more forums who knows where. It is not how hosting is supposed to work.

Excellent, I once asked wouldn't someone want to make a map with all these changes and abilities even without having the models to see what it's like (and there are lots of models that can be used plus Host & Site Operations in the Data to make the units look similar). I'm on to trying that.

I disagree. By managing a forum of your own and holding your discussions there, it'll be much easier to control it. Instead of holding their discussions here and expecting a moderator to deal with the tasks you introduce to them. First off, this is the hive. You're more likely to be insulted by said mod rather than helped.

If the solution was to make people mini mods, it would remove the problems concerning the pushing of requests to mods but would instead introduce shitloads of problems that'll be a pain in the ass to fix.
If you do nothing, the first problem remains. The solution is by linking to a site in which you have control over. So, with that said, why change anything? it appears to be working well.

I'm pretty sure new people come to the hive for the resources and maps, not the company, nor for the debates with said company. There's other modding sites which have enjoyable company, people who likes to have debates while still being respectful. Sadly they lack resources, which is the only real reason most people stick around this place rather than hanging with those guys.

The hosted project leaders are given the power to delete posts and they can point troublemakers to the administrators. An example would be someone I recently "escorted" out of Gaia's Retaliation on the author's request.

I'm not sure why you'd think we'd bring mini-mods into this, but giving the hosted mod authors the power to delete posts would seem like a sort of mini-modding and it works well for what I can see.
Also, I'm in not in agreement that having deserted forums occupying space on our boards because everyone's moved on to somewhere else means the hosting is working well.

I'm inclined to concur.

What ive suggested to ralle before is a tour of the site to new users. it would take a bit of web programming, but new users would have the option to have various links at their disposal for their first visit as a registered member. Kindof in bold letters to have them see key points to this site as well as resource rules. therefore there would be less explanation required to be given to new users

I don't really see the point though. If you're a new member and don't click the rules, it's not very likely that you would click the tour link either.

The hosting restriction would only have any hold or appeal if you upped what you offer, for example allowing custom styles when viewing the hosted projects' forum. I can't see anyone choosing hive over their own solution (which could look and act exactly how they want it to) =/

The hosted pages are a nice feature, but say I'm making a sci-fi map, I don't want it framed in leaves and stuff. Just a thought anyway. :/
