Made for my 3d Animation year end project. Its basically a Macharius Heavy Tank, with a different turret and simpler chassis.
12.5k polies i think. most of those go into the treads. And the chamfering.

good texture is not gonna happen :0
as ive mentioned before, UVW mapping is seemingly impossible on anything about a few thousand polies, it always jumbles up into a giant mess.
im still not sure how i am gonna texture it. im debating wether or not just to apply to a simple olive color.
basically my project is the assembly of this tank. The body will come up, and the treads/turrets/etc will be attached over 30+ seconds.

treads, as i have found out, are very easy to make/animate.

edit: oh yah and the image is kinda misleading, the tank isnt THAT fat. Its wide, but not that wide.

well, my original plan WAS to make a baneblade, but the design is so fukn UGLY. its a box with a shitload of turrets on top.

the tank, as i said before, is based off of the MACHARIUS:

its not an exact replica, but a cutdown version. didnt really have a lot of time working on all the miniscule details.

anyways, it really wasnt that hard. just need to think out stuff, and extrude a shitload

i already know how to animate treads. its really quite easy. make a tread section (the indivdual rectangle parts) and then path deform to a line the outlines the tread shape you want. from the the modifier u can make the treads move around the line. and in anycase, the tank is almost completely immobile during construction, its treads wont move.

ive just decided to create a material that has a shiny look to it, and apply it to the metal parts, while giving some pieces a darker metal, and the treads a more dull dark gray metal.

My only bad comments on it are...
The design looks like its made from pannels. Yes there are smoothed edges but the overal model gives an appearence like its nothing but pannels stuck together. The actual model it is based from has more rounded edges and panels that flow and bend around the shape more.
The treads at the ends of the triangles that they are wrapped around look bent and not flat, in real life only the tread joints bend, not the actual treads but it is hard to tell with the lighting if that is or is not the case here.

Next to that is a perfectly defined model. Unfortunatly its far too high polly for use in a RTS game and probably is too low poly for use in a comercial movie outside of a background object.

damn pastebin expired. anyways, yah, the tread thing is more of a technique problem. it mostly bends at the bend since 1. i dont have the exact number of treads/length of the tread to make it not bend. 2. the tread segments have line segments dividing the tread segment. that mostly causes the deformities when i add the pathdeform modifier, but from a distance away it looks fine.

i wish i did stick to the macharius tank more, but i was working on it from memory when i first created it, and by the time i got a good side/top views of the tank from Imperial Armor, i was way too far down the project to start over.
