Gnoll Campaign Version
C1V1R6, Released on November 30, 2020
Chapters: 1
Voiced Chapters: 1
Release: 6

Due to high amount of content present in each chapter (and long develop times thereof), we will release the Gnoll Campaign chapter-by-chapter. It took us about 1200 man-hours to plan and develop the first chapter and we believe that the subsequent chapters will require a like amount of effort.

Required Warcraft III Version
Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Patch 1.30.1 or later
(Gnoll Campaign Version C1R4 works on Patch 1.29.2. See Downloads for Previous Patches below.)

Warcraft III: Reforged Support
You can find the campaign split into separate maps in this post. You can play these maps with Warcraft III: Reforged. Please use SD graphics, when you do so.
It is also possible to play the campaign in Warcraft III: Reforged using the Quenching Mod.

Installation Instructions
As of Warcraft III patch 1.30.4, you can install the campaign as follows:

Windows
  1. Download GnollCampaign-C1V1R6.w3n from the Hive Workshop (using the big download button)
  2. Copy GnollCampaign-C1V1R6.w3n to Documents\Warcraft III\Campaigns. If the Campaigns folder does not exist, you must create it.
macOS
  1. Download GnollCampaign-C1V1R6.w3n from the Hive Workshop (using the big download button)
  2. Open Finder.
  3. Press and hold the OPTION/ALT key down, then go to the Finder menu in the top menu bar and open the "Go" menu. When you are holding the OPTION/ALT key down, the Library option will appear in the dropdown menu. Click "Library". Now you are in the Library folder.
  4. Open Application Support → Blizzard → Warcraft III.
  5. Create a "Campaigns" folder, if it does not exist.
  6. Copy GnollCampaign-C1V1R6.w3n to the Campaigns folder.
Playing the Gnoll Campaign
  1. Start Warcraft III.
  2. Make sure you have started the game in The Frozen Throne mode. If not, click the small button on the right hand side of the Single Player button.
  3. Select Single Player → Custom Campaign.
  4. Select Gnoll Campaign in the file menu.
  5. Click Play Campaign.
Selecting the Right Difficulty
Easy: If you have been long time away from Warcraft III and you have not honed your skills to play the game lately, please choose the Easy difficulty.

Normal: If you know how the game functions, you are able to use hero abilities effectively, train a good mix of units, and create a good army, but you do not consider yourself as a super-good player, we recommend playing on the Normal difficulty.

Hard: If you are actually pretty good at the game, you can use hero and unit abilities to the maximum effect, you are able to micro units well, you know how to build an extremely effective army, and you know well what different abilities, items, and upgrades do, we recommend that you play on the Hard difficulty.

If even the Easy difficulty is too difficult for you, please consider using Warcraft III built-in cheats to make the game even easier.

Solutions to Puzzles
You can find the solutions to the puzzles on gnollcampaign.com.

Trailer Movie on YouTube
You can watch the trailer movie on YouTube, if it does not work for you in-game.

Gnoll Campaign (Campaign)

A credits list is required. You can use this as help: Gnoll Campaign This includes sounds and music, external material you've used which does not belong to you. This is a campaign. The RPG tag doesn't quite fit as that is usually used for...

This is unfair (I've been fooled involuntarily. I usually play betas/demos on request). You've not mentioned that this is not finished. For such projects you should use: Map Development The story isn't that engaging. It's pretty standard: the good...

Now, campaigns will be considered as maps, meaning if they even have only one finished map of quality, they will be approved.

Ok, finally managed to update to 1.29 and played this.

The map duration is comparable to the Dwarf campaign maps. The lantern quest maybe will need some hints for example finding one of the oil fruits early and made it to start a fire or something like that, and maybe a runemark on the brazen.

About the other items in the totem, the robe, the spear, and the mushrooms, i never find an use for these, about the health and mana fruits, i don't remember a more clear hint for their use on the fountains.

The Gnoll druid Ent summon is usable for this mission, but if the enemies are going to be Starspawn, the skill will be really weak. I'll will play again to add more about the heroes skills, i don't mind the Champion being MK, the skills works well together. But the Troll mage just don't click as having the proper synergy.

I'm sorry, I can't play this. I lost my CDs and CD key for Warcraft 3 years ago, and have just been backing up the files manually and moving them to different computers. The latest patch simply won't work on my version of the game because it isn't verified, even though I paid for it like a good little consumer.

Hi all,

Can someone please help? I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I can't get this campaign to work. I created a folder called "Campaigns" in my WC3 directory and moved the file there, but I don't see it under custom campaigns in the game.

Hi all I figured it out. FYI for anyone having problems playing this despite following the instructions.

I don't know if this is a recent change, but I found the proper "Campaigns" folder under the following path:

This PC -> Documents -> Warcraft III -> Campaigns

I copied the files here and it seems to work fine now.

When I build the altar of Gu'rathal, it just shows up as a gray foundation, and I can't click it. Some of the troll buildings are also just foundations. Any idea how to fix it?

Edit: This fixed itself during a reload (although other reloads didn't fix it). Not sure why. The troll buildings also fixed themselves at the same time.

Finally got a chance to play this. Only one level long, but it was an absolute blast to play! I was skeptical that this could live up to the legacy of the dwarf campaign, but it blew me out of the water.

Fine work, Sound Mind Games! I look forward to more projects from you, and I hope to see this campaign updated in the near future!

This might be a problem caused by the patch 1.30. The campaign works fine 1.29, though.

Great that you liked it! We will continue the campaign, but it takes time to plan all the story, gameplay, etc. Thus, the next chapter can be expected earliest some time next year.

I played the campaign on patch 1.30.9922.

- The cinematic trailer doesn't seem to play. Every time it sends me back the chapter select screen instead.
- I think you should make a backpack system for not only this chapter but for the future ones too. I found myself dropping a lot of the items pretty often, then running across the map to get them again.
- Applying the QWER hotkeys for unit and hero abilities would be nice.
- After pressing Esc an option to entirely skip the current cutscene should be added.
- Maybe they have some kind of use, but I couldn't find one for the broken spear and rotten robes
- Some buildings don't look gnoll like. Here are a few models that I think can be nice replacements:
GnollLumberyard
GnollSavageTower
Gnoll Kennel
GnollForge

Overall, a nice campaign that lives up to the Dwarf campaign's legacy. Even though its only 1 chapter, its very good. Gameplay is entertaining and the terrain is well made.
You might want to especially look at the problem regarding the cinematic. Other than that, 5/5 from me.

Blizzard changed how movies work in the patch 1.30. Actually they completely replaced their old system with a new one, and as a result old movies do not work anymore and need to be re-encoded. However, the new system is still bugged and it cannot be used. If Blizzard fixes the movie system, then we will update the campaign so that it works in 1.30. The bug was already reported to Blizzard (@Kam) during the 1.30 PTR but they did not fix it. Meanwhile, you can watch the trailer on YouTube:

- Applying the QWER hotkeys for unit and hero abilities would be nice.
We will consider doing this also. It has been suggested once before already, but so far we have not added it.

After pressing Esc an option to entirely skip the current cutscene should be added.
We have made this possible only for the first cinematic in Chapter 1 (Skip Intro). Usually, we use Maximum Dialogue Speed to skip other cinematics. But we will think about this as well.

- Maybe they have some kind of use, but I couldn't find one for the broken spear and rotten robes
They are junk, which are there only for the purposes of the story.

We did not like how some gnoll buildings looked like, and that's why we ended up using orc buildings. But I guess it is a matter of taste.

I can't find warcraft III in App support on my Mac. But I found a folder called Blizzard in Users/Shared/
No, in both patch 1.29 and patch 1.30, the right place to put the campaign on Mac is
Users/[your user name]/Library/Application Support/Blizzard/Warcraft III/Campaigns

And the trailer movie does not work on 1.30. If you click it, the game will return to the campaign main screen in a bugged mode. If you click any button in that mode, you will get a permanent black screen.

I can't even SEE the campaign, or any other in fact. Version 1.29 has no campaign folder and came with no maps, even after creating the folder and adding the campaigns I just don't see them in the Custom Campaign menu.
Help.

Right now I am preparing to go through the door..

It's totally awesome. I'm again impressed by your work. This map feels the same like the dwarven campaign. I love it!
Though the only concern I have is the challenge ingame: Yellow's Gnoll base was a joke...It takes too long to attack for them and even then it's a small group of air units.
It's possible to buy tp scroll and you have so much ressources, why can't it be harder?
That's all I would wish for the campaign. Was a pleasure to play. :) 5*

Why the hell isn't it showing up in the Custom Campaigns? My Warcraft III is 1.30.2, and the new one is 1.30.1 and it still doesn't work. I even tried the 1.29 but it still doesn't work.

Wow, such a nice campaign. Im really hyped to see the next chapter.
Trailer, all quests are working well and found no bugs on the map

But wanna say the yellow base is pretty easy to kill and also the bridges. Just needed to pull one of them to the other side and you can kill one by one easily.
But all other stuff are fine. I like it very much!

A fascinating campaign. I just finished it, and the design and gameplay really looks similar to chapter 1 and 2 from Dwarf Campaign, the prequel.
The work so far was quite satisfying, if I'm being honest. Goldmane's music theme was amazing and his intro, killing trolls with the music on was spectacular. I'm giving it 5/5 for now.
Any specific release date for chapter 2, and if not when do we expect it to be out approximately?

It is hard to estimate, because Warcraft III: Reforged is coming and we have plans to update our campaign to the new graphics, which will naturally take some time due to the high number of custom models. If I would give you an honest answer, I would say Q4 of 2019 or Q1 of 2020. But these are not hard fixed dates. So it will be ready, when it is ready.

Back then, when i started to play the Gnoll Campaign, only the first mission was available, now after some time i revisited the project to see if it went on, and i am so glad it did.
But, the old progress cannot be used on the new campaign file ... is there any way to load the old progress into this one, so i dont have to replay mission 1 in order to go into mission 2 and still have all the collected items?

Oh, and as for now, is it because of version 1.30.2.... that some spell icons etc cant be displayed and just the green "filler" appears?

I had in my mind that we would allow some kind of a system to start directly with Chapter 2 for old players. It might be that the heroes in Chapter 2 are different than in Chapter 1, so storing the progress will not be a problem then. But even if some of the old heroes are playable, we can provide some kind of an average starting point for them. Anyways, it might be that we need to balance out the old heroes, so that everybody has about the same starting point in Chapter 2. Otherwise, balancing the difficulty will be very hard.

Oh, and as for now, is it because of version 1.30.2.... that some spell icons etc cant be displayed and just the green "filler" appears?
This is the first time I hear about this problem. Can you please specify, which icons are green in 1.30.2?

Oh that answer came fast, if i knew that XD

i replayed the first mission only for 5 minutes or so, then i had a new big big problem, so until now all i remember is the lumbermill ranged weapon upgrade icon is green ...

my new problem is: i cant load saved custom maps anymore, i tried with every savegame of every custom campaign, all give the error message that - translated into english - would be "the map files of the save game differ from the map files on your computer" ... first i thought it was cuz i tried to load a custom campaign i played years ago and maybe did update the map files .... but it happened even with the gnoll campaign i downloaded some hours ago and played for the mentioned 5 minutes -- so its all new and it cant be that the hard drive files and the savegame files are not matching O_O

i already wrote to blizzard and an employee just said, thats its not their business, and the issue comes from the map creator, not the game (which is BS since ALL maps dont work anymore, not just this one...)
