Not everything should be menageable with money. The first question we should bother with is if it's senseful to allow such a feature. As I stated in an other thread some minutes ago, I think it's not.

I'd likely buy it for 100$ since students in Sweden get 150$ every month, it's not that much.

Well, I try to count my monthly gains from my daily pocket money (consumption not included), and I get about $50/Month. I guess it'll take awhile for me to actually donate anything here

You already can earn a custom icon, there are a few levels to it actually. TWIF has the highest (donated $1,000+) and the basic starts @ $20+.

In a perfect world that would be the truth. However mankind is greedy, how many would spend money on a game if you didn't gain anything at all in return? the answer is extremely few in comparison.

From Ralles point of view those few might be enough to have the site running. But I feel like that's a fairly lame argument, if you can get let's say 5 150$ donation by giving away an award that already is in the system. All that would be needed is a new icon and 5 minutes of coding. (ok maybe not that low, but not far )

I get that the site isn't about making money, but that extra cash could be used in good ways for the sites well being.

You already can earn a custom icon

->award, this is about an icon. We can change into Bat Riders, Humans/Night Elves/Undead, etc.

Any icon changes should be the result of non-financial contributions to the site. We already employ a method of acknowledging financial donations.

Iceman and probably a few others believe that the icon states our functionality in this site. I wonder what they think of this method of showing who does what

One Idea

Each of the names refers to the icon seen in the default WE between the Campaign & Melee unit icons. All belong to the Orcish Horde. The ratings refer to those assigned by the appropriate resource moderators.

Heros = Site Staff (They keep us going):
Tauren Chieftan: Ralle
Shadow Hunter: Admin
Far Seer: Global Moderator
Blade Master: Moderator

Basic Army = most users:
Peon: 0 ~ 100 posts
Grunt:100 ~ 2000 posts
Headhunter: 2000 ~ 4000 posts
Kodo Beast: 4000+ posts

Resource contributors [Spells] = support:
Warlock: 1 highly recommended spell
Gul'dan: 1 DC spell

Resource contributors [Models] = support:
Shaman: 1 highly recommended spell
Drak'thul: 1 DC spell

Resource contributors [Icons/Skins] = support:
Witch Doctor: 1 highly recommended spell
Spirit Walker: 1 DC spell

Resource contributors [Maps] = support:
Riderless Wyvern: 1 highly recommended spell
Spirit Wyvern: 1 DC spell

This manner would limit most custom icons to being earned.

I still can't find any logic in making a new thread... in my defense I've had 3 finals in the last 24hrs (mind = fried).

The idea is an attempt to expand on the horde-theme we have here. So far as flavor/aesthetics go, the horde is comprised of more than grunts (although it does have a lot of them).

The post count numbers were arbitrary, I just kept doubling them.

The main focus was on the resource icons & the staff icons.

There is no reason to have the icons as they are currently either. This is just throwing a suggestion out there which is phrased much better than my original one. Nor is anything about this topic 'urgent' in nature, it's just discussion.

I disagree. The two threads are the same: Do we buy custom icons or do we earn them. I push for earning them and you push for buying them, but it's still the same topic.

How about user with 2+ Highly Recommended Resources or 2+ DC from 2 different sections.
Or users with 3 HR Res from 2 Differ sect and 1 DC from 1 other sect (differ than other 3 HR)
