Sverker has always been like this; arrogant, rude, and belittling to other people. It is why his two other projects failed and if you look at comments from the previous threads you will see numerous people attest to this and his horrible leadership skills. He has it in his head that he is above other people; the name of this thread being 1 piece of evidence for that. It is good to have ambition but not to the point where you treat people like trash and ignore valuable criticism. He needs to learn that the way you treat other people matters, and at some point in his life he will learn; whether forcefully or hopefully through his own realization. It will get through his head at some point.

No matter what kind of mood you are in that particular day you don't treat people in a poor way; if you've got nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. His asking for reputation in the past for his work or encouragement to work is another example of his arrogance; you get reputation if you deserve it, you do not ask for it. Same thing goes for this thread title; a Director's Cut rating will be determined by the map reviewers, and naming the thread with the rating in it shows arrogance and a presumption that it will receive the rating. Do you see any other threads named like this one? No, none in fact. This is all part of the presentation Sverker presents.

I hope Sverker takes what I said to heart and man's up to this, but most likely he will ignore it and for that I am truly sad for him. This is meant to help him as a person, and I'm saying what a lot of people have either said in the past or wanted to say. If you want to work in the gaming industry in the future Sverker, this information is especially important for you as working in the games industry involves a lot of teamwork and people skills.

As Feora said, Sverker, being arrogant won't bring you to glory, you should also take a look on the people around you, criticism is always a part of this work, and you should accept it and use it as a motivation to improve your work, I read all of your past threads, all of the people tried to help you, give suggestions, criticize your work but you turn them all down, saying that your work is good and you don't need their suggestions...

Your argument with Devine is the worst, he explained it clearly what you need to improve but you just turn him down like that.

You should improve your attitude since this is important on being a leader, on sports, business, politics, and even on gaming industry.

I don't want to offence you, i'm just trying to help you as a fellow modder and a friend.

Alright, I'm going to swallow my pride for once and explain a few things to my followers. I had a very harsh childhood which I rather not speak about to anyone.

I have a very special need for power. Power makes me feel like I have control over my life as I did not have when I was young. Either I hurt people or I create, both of which I am very good at.

I've tried both paths, but by pushing people down I feel like I am becoming the monster that haunted me all my childhood. I want to become a good person who does good and get power that way instead of hurting people like I used to. This is very hard for me to do though, you can see my ganger getting to me in the texts I am responding to people with and I guess that's the reason I'm being called a arrogant and rude person very often.

I hope you understand and support my conversion even tho it wont come faultless.

Now, let's never speak of this again. I wont hurt people when they bother me in the future, instead I will leave them be, that was my lesson for today.

Sverker may be a little bit over confident but he does not walk around topics being a d-i-c-k to others like M0rbid, Goris or Devine do now does he ?

but I guess on this website, having many gemz, karmaz ,egos and mod tag is enough of a privilege to do so

I'm merely pointing out that criticizing ego issues in a manner that is just ego overflow does not make you look any better

if you do not like the way Sverker does things/behaves then express it in an exemplary manner, not do the exact same and troll or intentionally irritate
it's beyond childish especially coming off somebody who is presumed to be such an important and representative figure

finally good news!!:D the last vid of the church was so awesome, it was so detailed that you could even hear footsteps sounds when running/walking and also the sound of breathing!!:D but there is a minor problem with that, when you start walking/running the breathing sounds like you were running for a long time lol, maybe you could get different variations of sounds? 1 breathing sound type for standing still, 1 breathing sound for walking and 1 breathing sound for running and the breathing sound is determined by how fast you were running and for how long

idea:
maybe even when you stand still you should hear the breathing of the player and add an ability that makes you hold your breath (like in cod when you hold your breath to aim if you are scoping) to reduce the sound you make so that monsters will be harder to notice you:D

Hmmmm, the trailer did not really give me the creep that I want, no its not really creepy, the trailer need to be more flashy, more horror.

Also that flame thing looks ugly you. You might want to remake the trailer, the music that you use was good but the scenes that you take is not fitting for a trailer.

I think it's pretty good for a low-budget game mod project.
 
Finally some look into the gameplay.
Pros:
Well to start with, as I have said I love the camera
The lighting appears to be well placed and thought out
Really like the voice acting this time, great job.
Reminds me of amnesia, which is a game that I totally love
Cons:
I wasn't scared. Like uhh, I really hope you have worse scares then shadowy units
I wasn't feeling the fog, it looked cut and kinda bad. (This isn't your fault, but still. Perhaps try for a better camera angle to remove this)

I didn't really like the beginning of trailer, it felt unnecessary to say that "is it possible to make a warcraft horror?"
Everything else is fantastic and I would love to see this game released.

From the most non-biased part of my perspectives, I can say that Dualism is indeed a very scary game. Although this trailer may not communicate thoroughly the scares (which I am glad of, as not to ruin them for you) to you, you can certainly trust that this game will scare you, or at least show you something that you have never seen before in the WC3 community.

oo nice, the dormund castle turned out pretty decent aswell and it does look a bit scary too!!

wow the gameplay scenes looked really good and scary!!:O
but i have to agree with maddeem, the fog looked cut and kinda bad=/
also the flames didn't really fit the game, maybe it could look better if you use some dark part of the forest that looked scary or smth:p

I think what Sverker is aiming for is terror of survival, essence of that cannot really be delivered through a video footage IMO
But you can still see the character running away frantically from the monster in the shadows by the end of the video

as a personal sidenote, I really hope there is gonna be frightened voice/gasping whenever you are in danger like it is shown in the trailer
and that the controls will be clumsy, because that was one of the major scare factors of horror classics such as silent hill or resident evil, lol

so far the camera control, sounds and atmosphere are all exceptional
these qualities put aside, the major reason for why to consider remaking the trailer is not the footage itself but the misspell of Dormund at 1:06, that unless it was intentional
also why make the video not public ?

I didn't notice the spelling error until now that you mentioned it. Not sure if it is worth forcing Grey to re-render it for 3 hours and upload it for 1 hour just because of a small spelling mistake ;P

I'll have to contact him about it.


You are right, It is very hard to make people feel the same scary feeling that you get from playing Dualism from just viewing a trailer since playing and viewing are two different things.



The most important part that I think of when I am developing Dualism is sound. Sound is key to create the right atmosphere and give Dualism the right "feeling"


Dualism contains 314 different sounds as of right now. Everything shown in the trailer is the "minumum" standard that we are going to keep for the Beta. In other words, things can only get better.



The trailer will be set to public, thanks for the heads up!

Just a couple of things I noticed and would like to suggest upon:

About the church (and if I'm not mistaken, the castle as well): the light of the moon is passing through the windows positioned in all of the room. Perhaps you should make only half of the windows have light (say, the left side, for example), and make the light brighter on onle one side, to make it look like the moon is on the East (or West?). I mean no offense to your work, it's looking good, but it seems strange to me that the light comes from all directions there. The pitch black you would get on one side could also be useful to hide things in it.

I didn't play the beta so I don't know if you already did something like this but when the character runs, you made the sounds give the player the idea that he's getting tired, which I think is great, but perhaps that could also be used to make the game harder. I don't know how (or if) it could be done, but what if the player could only run fast for some time (based on the health the player has left or stamina, which could be, for example, the mana). That would add to the strategy the game requires, and make it much harder. But it would be harder to balance it as well.


Anyways, it's looking good so far. I like how you seem to forget none of the smallest details of the atmosphere of the game (IMO the most important part of a horror game, and the most time-demanding), like the footsteps, light, sounds etc. Keep ut the good work. I'm looking forward to seeing this project complete.

If im not mistaken, running uses mana(or in this case stamina) and when your mana reaches 0 you can't run anymore.
how i know about the stamina system? i noticed the mana drop in the church preview vid:p

I saw your comment on Youtube, this has hit my mind too. What I am trying to get the player to feel that it's so extremely dark so that the light of the moon surrounding the building can be spotted from every window. I could decide to put it at a certain location and adjust the lightning accordingly but that would in my opinion limit my possibilities.

You are completly right, mana is representing your stamina. If you are out of stamina you can't run. When you take damage you lose stamina.

nice i like it!!;D also if possible it would be good to maybe start limping if you take too much damage? or maybe some sort of trap somewhere that damages your leg and you have to limp untill you find some sort of medic kit or smth?

damn there are so many things you can do!!
if you want some scary ideas you should play the amnesia demo from steam, totally worth it;)

When you walk on it you limb for ~13 seconds. Let's say that you are hunted by a monster and accidentaly walks on it, you are screwed unless you have a potion of Epinephrine at hands.

Taking damage can also lead to a lot of different effects such as bleeding, infection and immoobility, which of each has it's own effect on the walking and camera system. Everything has been taken into consideration to deliver the best horror feeling possible within the Warcraft 3 engine.

When you walk on it you limb for ~13 seconds. Let's say that you are hunted by a monster and accidentaly walks on it, you are screwed unless you have a potion of Epinephrine at hands.

Taking damage can also lead to a lot of different effects such as bleeding, infection and immoobility, which of each has it's own effect on the walking and camera system. Everything has been taken into consideration to deliver the best horror feeling possible within the Warcraft 3 engine.

Dualism has a lot of scary things in it. It is very hard to explain exactly. I suggest that you have a look at our preview video as soon as it comes out to get a general idea.

nice but shouldn't bear traps be visible? i don't mean visible in the way that they are 100% noticeable, noticeable in a way that blend into the environment and if you have a keen eye you should be able to locate it and avoid it.

hmm 13 seconds sounds a bit too much but i guess if you think for a moment in real life stepping on a trap might cause you to never walk again*_* btw what's a potion of Epinerphine? maybe you mean Epinephrine? some sort of speed booster or healing potion i guess?

bleeding, infection and immobility sure are some nice stuff to add!! is it possible to show the player from which side he is taking the damage from? (like in cod that you see a red "line" that shows you where you have been hit from)
