...Huh. Does the lack of item ability working extend to retagged abilites? Because the thing I was trying to do was just bumping up the level of the abilities on the killing unit after giving them a spellbook with the initial kill. (also, for testing, I used Factory set to .5 second spawn interval on an invulnerable unit). Here's the map with what I was doing in a mostly-dummy state, though I can't get the HP increase to work. Probably because it's an item ability.

Currently to increase Max Life and Mana (as the respective item abilities don't level up, and you can't just create 100 dummy abilities to satisfy your needs) you need to abuse a well known bug.
The 1.29 PTR version will allow to directly modify Life and Mana with triggers.

Well what we learnt is that Field Promotion concept is rather easy i guess.
