Alliance Cavalry

A cavalry team, consisting of a Human Pikeman and a Night Elf mage. As usual, I've supplied a rather low quality picture, but the model quality is decent, I assure you.

Works well in-game and the file size isn't very large considering it's two heroes in one (plus a horse).

Uses only default Warcraft III skins. Made using Magos' Model Editor, Oinkerwinkle's tools and Notepad.

Version 2: Reduced the poly count quite a bit and changed the footman's weapon.

Version 3: I've listened to most of your suggestions and changed the following:

- The attack animation is now much less busy and magical
- The Night Elf is now closer to the Footman
- I've varied most of the animations, so that they are only synced for death and dissipate
- The spell animation only involves the Night Elf, the footman will not attack as well

Version 4: Reduced the poly count more. It has now been reduced almost 900 polies total!! Hopefully you won't notice too many of the changes, but the following stand out quite a bit:

- Shorter legs on the Night Elf
- Footman's plume was made simpler
- Night Elf's upper armour was remade
- Night Elf's eyebrows were removed

!Updated! Version 5: Reduced the poly count to the acceptable level and desynced the Stand - 2 animation.

I hope this helps everybody enjoy the model a little more :)

The model by itself is nice; but in Warcraft III, the unit doesn't look like something the Alliance or Night Elves would dispense... and it looks 'queer' (tho its boy-girl).

someone could make a campaign based off a romance novel, this would be so useful

"and so the princess and her unlikely human lover road away on a scrawny pony into the sunset, knowing full well the days ahead would be challeging. But together, they could overcome anything."

T_T this is epicly beautiful

sorry, what are we talking about again?

Ridiculous polycount, they're practically unmodified campaignscreen models. You're better off putting a normal footman and a normal archer mapped to these textures on that horse....
Secondly, casting and slashing in both animations = nono. Make an attack, without casting, and a spell without attacking. Make what the current attack is something like attack slam. Something so epic as an attack anim gets annoying FAST.

Currently updating the model to reduce the polycount. What should I aim for?

The plans so far:
1. I'm going to remove the fingers, and replace them with standard, triangular Warcraft hands.
2. Removing the feathers along the Night Elf's arm will reduce the polycount by at least 100, maybe more.
3. Changing the Footman's weapon to slightly lessen the polys and make it look more like a realistic slashing weapon
4. Taking off half of the Footman's shoulder pads.
5. Replacing the Night Elf's ears with flat planes, like the other in-game models.

I think that's all I can change without completely redoing the model. :S

Can anybody think of anything to add to this?

Edit: I have updated the model. I've lowered the poly count by almost 600.

Cavman: How low do you want me to make it? I'm pretty sure it'd be impossible for me to reach 1000 with two units and a horse, without completely redoing it. There are some models on this site that have over 1500 polies for a single warrior. I'm willing to try to lower it some more, but could you give me some guidelines or help me find some polies that can be easily removed?

NeoGaiden: I have had two footmen that look like this one on the site for some time :). Search for pikeman or longbowman or simply search for models made by me.

Wanna know honestly what i don't like most?
Here ya go:
2 Awersome Models, made awersome, looking awersome, smelling and tasting awersome, are mounten on a crappy horse, i'm not sure it can even carry them both, so if you make a hight quality skin or replace the horse it will be fully AWERSOME!

CeDiL: Lol, I know what you mean about the low-res horse being annoying, but to get a better looking horse, I'd need to make a custom skin. That would increase file size and look crummy, because I suck at texture editing :p.

Model has now been updated and the polies have been significantly reduced again. The total number of polies removed is almost 900 now! I'm hoping that it's low enough now?

yea...

EDIT: what bugs me is that a lot of the animations seem still syhchonised

Attack: nightelf should kinda do some circles or hang on to footy
Stand (dunno which one) footie's and nightelf's arms are moving in unison. (the arm that holds the weapon and the same arm on her)
death: it is lol but maybe they should fall fon two diferent sides ^.^
Dissipate: why do they don't rise?
a lot more but i can't remember right now ^^;;

and get...rid...of...the... cape xD

Good model but some animations could be changed/added...

The girl shouldn't try to attack when she doesn't hold any weapon...
Add at least one more attack animation, looks horrible in game when the unit strikes the same way over and over again.
Add one or two spell animations, let the girl cast the spell animation.

Without these animations I would say that the model is completely useless, but that's just my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great model but it lacks that little extra that makes it good.

wow. Do you people even listen to yourselves? "Too many pollies!", "Reduce the damn poly count!", "Dude, the poly count is way too high." I may not know a whole lot about poly counts, but I do know that 2000 pollies for 3 units is VERY fukin reasonable. Can't you just live with it? This was obviously designed as a Hero model, so you shouldn't have too many in your map anyway, right? Besides, to quote winged nosering, there's a good amount of singel-unit models on THW with over 1500 pollies. Just deal with it. Jeez.

Whos' the mod here with the power to approve the model?

If I hadn't caught this thing before the other mods got here, It would ahve been ignored. And this thing isn't three units, it's one. Yes, this should be a hero, but people are fucking retarded and will try and spam this thing in their maps.

Thank you all for the feedback, it's been very helpful (for the most part). I'm currently working on yet another update, but I don't think I'll be able to reach the goal of 1500 polies. Anybody who wishes to download this should do so as soon as possible before it gets deleted :(.

Cavman: I'm doing one more update, but as stated above, I don't think I'll be able to reduce the polies to the amount you requested. I'm sorry this model has been such a pain for you to keep reviewing, but I'd like to defend it a little bit :p. There are many models on this site that are over 1500 polies. Search 'Battle Priest' and you'll see a good example. The model I'm talking about is 1470 polies for a single dwarf.
I've been looking for a while now, to see what else I can strip off of this model and I've found almost nothing. I feel that if I remove anything else, the quality of the model would suffer. Are you sure you won't allow 1700?
