Hello, while being some time around Hive now, I would like to present my ideas of how to ... I don't think improve expresses it right.
Well, I just say here are some things, I myself, as a little user of this great site, would appreciate to see.
Pre-Note 1: The following content is meant to be in a neutral tone and neither to be offensive or accusingly. They are only friendly suggestions and I do not want to hurt anyone or decrease the value of any kind of progress that was done in the past.
As the following content only focuses on suggestions, I would like to say this is already a great site and I don't want to attack anyone by giving suggestions. The following content are little things I noticed while being on Hive.
Pre-Note 2: The following content does not pay attention to features Ralle already announced for Hive 2.0, but they might be influenced as I read parts of the corresponding text.
Pre-Note 3: Ralle, I know you are really busy and you have a hard time developing Hive 2.0. I am aware of the fact this thread may be posted at the wrong time, I also thought about posting it after Hive 2.0 is released, but then I thought it could be helpful to get some of my suggestions before harden the new Hive.
Ralle, please don't be offended or pissed by this thread, as I said, you did and do a great job and I would like to contribute a little piece to this masterpiece.
I would be glad if you are pleased by this.
Note: The category 'Importance for Hive' is not based on statistics or objective facts, but guessed by myself.

Classification | Short Description | Detailed Description | Importance for Hive | Possible Problems
Social Groups | Please add an option to allow social group maintainers to assign group moderators | Giving the option to assign group moderators will allow a better and faster control of group threads. Additional, inactive maintainer won't be a greater problem anymore. | ** | Power abuse
Resource Section | Please add an additional part in the resource thread of an uploaded resource for variations | This can be color variations or icon tiers, different map versions, like different terrain or other game modes on the same map. Offering space, the resource ( especially the icon ) section won't be spammed with simple edits and variations | *** | Bad overview about resources, slightly decreases importance of packs
BB-Code, Posting | Please add more BB-shortcuts | Many users are complaining about lacking BB-shortcuts when creating map threads or posts. Instead of having to look on the BB list, this would allow users to create faster threads, descriptions and detailed posts. | *** | -
User Control Panel | Please add an option to view the full reputation history | A detailed list of who gave you reputation or which resource was really appreciated could give creators nice statistics. | ** | favoritism
Tutorial Section | Please add sub-categories | Adding sub-categories like 'Quests' or 'Icons' could greatly increase the search progress and to help especially newbies to get exactly into the tutorials they want to see | *** | Many sub-categories could make the tutorial section look too filled and they are lost in details
Moderators | Please add 'Skin Moderator' | While there aren't many skins currently, I think it would be a good idea to add this position, as a skin moderator could fully focus on skins and wouldn't be troubled because he is called 'Resource Moderator' | ** | -
Albums | Please add an option to create sub-albums | I often wish there would be the opportunity to create sub-albums. Especially for 2D-Artists it is very useful as they may have multiple work stages and they don't want to spam their 2D-Album because they want to show a progress. | *** | -
Resource Section ( Skins and Icons) | Please add the opportunity to add WIP signifaction to an uploaded resource | This needs further explanation. Basically, I think there is a feature missing to upload WIP in the resource section without giving the opportunity to download it. What is the difference to the system we have now ? Adding an option to the skin or icon upload that marks a resource as WIP resource will disable download option. Why you may ask. This allows artists to upload 2D skins and icons without having to fear it gets a 'Need a fix' and therefore it vanishes from the section. But, a WIP resource would allow artists to get feedback and comments on their work and after their work meets the requirements of Hive and the artists feel ready to upload it, then they can deselect the WIP selection in the update menu and can upload an approved/ pending resource. Only Hive users will be able to see WIP resources. Additionally, this could be extended to create a sub-group of artists and moderators that will focus on WIP resources. Of course, this may be too much. | *** | Abuse of the WIP option, creators could use this option to show their work, with no intention to give access to the resource itself ( maybe set a time limit on a WIP resource)
User Interface | Please give an option to the User Control Panel to edit the little user information that show your name with link to user profile, last visit and notifications. threads | Giving the option to edit it, users could add additional lines that show, as example, private messages, visitor messages and new post amount of subscribed posts | ** | -
Resource Section | Please add some new tags for the resource section | Please add
| *** | - | |
Resource Section | Please add a better information or add an option to view all skins / icons for a specific default unit | You sometimes ask yourself, what skins are uploaded on Hive for the VillagerWoman, OrcGrunt, ... ? Although there is a little field to fill in what unit will be affected by the skin, it does not has influence on the search itself, I think. Many creators also do not tagged their resources right or well, therefore some treasures are lost in the catalog of resources. A new option would allow players to view skins / icons dependent on the Blizzard Resource. Selecting the VillagerWoman would show all skins that are available for her. | *** | -
Threads | Please add an option to create a private thread | Many users demanded this feature. Private threads, only accessible for added users ( and staff, of course) will allow a better map development. Creators can work on their maps without having to fear, that someone copies the map. Additionally, if users can create sub-threads within the thread, creators could differ between terraining, triggering and game play without interfering other sections. A terrainer won't be notificated each time a great discussion about a certain trigger starts, but only if a terrain matter is on the table. This feature is similar to the 'Hosted Project' section, but would be much more independent from the rules concerning hosted projects | *** | Staff would have to pay attention to these threads, as users within the private thread may hurt rules. Therefore, maybe limit the use of private threads only for maps that reached a certain stage of work or seem to be very promising. |
