This is a skin for a rope-shaped lightning effect. It's quite simple, but I thought someone might find it useful, so I uploaded it here. And this is my first upload, btw. For the optimal effect, use width 30-40 and noise scale 0.
Edit: Improved (hopefully) shading.

Remember to set "TexCoordScale" to 0 so the rope stays put.
A positive number means the rope will slide towards the target, while a negative number and the rope will slide towards the caster (like in the Drain effect).

At least add shadows to the bottom part, it's very plain, and overbright.

As far as I know, you can't. If you make the texture darker it will only look more transparent.
