Forgotten Realms - The Sword Coast

I made this map since I couldn't find any Forgotten Realms maps. I made this myself over somewhat long period of time and this is actually the first map I've been able to finish. The map gameplay is quite simple: You start off as one of the major towns along the Sword Coast North (from Icewind Dale down to Waterdeep) and fight your way to glory. Currently, there are no losing / winning conditions in the map, but it shouldn't be a problem really. Players receive gold income after each in-game day (120 seconds in real-life) according to nodes they control. You can capture most buildings/nodes by simply doing enough damage to those.

The map size is quite big too, over 6mb, as it contains a lot of custom models and stuff, and I didn't create most of them, but rather randomly downloaded from this website. I can't name all of the models creators, but all credits go to them for creating the models (and my thanks). As said, I did this map myself, and I haven't really tested it with anyone else, except on my own. If there are any bugs let me know, and I'd also like to know what people generally think of it.

You can ally players in the game with " -ally color " and unally with " -unally color " also, if you can't form an alliance with someone, try " -neutral color " as some of the races dislike others and won't form alliances :p

Thanks :)

Hey, Thanks for all the feedback, everything is much appreciated. I have been busy with school / life, so I haven't done anything for the map as of yet, but I would like to rebalance it properly and add some new tweaks and new stuff. But my map making abilities are somewhat limited, and I'm not a trigger genious, so, if there are any Forgotten Realms fans out there willing to help me to make this map even better, you can send your "application" to my email: [email protected]

Please title your email so that I know what your business is.

I haven't tested this map, but the screenshots look pretty good!
My only spontaineous complaint would be the map size.
Go to the import manager, and check if you have any models larger than 300kb, and if you have, see if you can't replace them, or maybe just lower the resolution of their imported textures (i could explain to you how that is done if needed).
If you have any large music files, see if you can't compress them, or make a shorter one that may loop. I usually import tons of custom material into my maps, but i could never imagine anyone reaching past 6mb without using custom music files.

Hey, I just tried out the map - and I have to say, I think it's fairly well done. I think, however, a couple of areas need touching up. One such area would be the alliance system - I find it rather ridiculous that you can ally a player, without deciding to become neutral to them. Wouldn't it be more simple to restrict alliances with certain players, but allow neutrality for all? (or, perhaps so as to not affect the balance, make a limit?)

Beyond this, I think there should be more ways for players to acquire resources - perhaps control points dotted around the maps? More outposts? A trade system? I'll leave it all to your imagination, but I think such things could only increase the quality of an already brilliant map. Regarding balance, I've yet to note any major discrepancies - but then again, I have only tested the map a couple of times.

As for bugs, I found that it was possible to walk across the space in between the gates and guard towers, in some settlements. A couple of pathing blockers should readily solve this issue. Yet, all in all, I have no substantial criticism for your map. Great job, and I hope to see more of your maps in the future.

Tested your map dude like 3 times and got mixed reviews ranging from Shitty to Awesome.

Personally, I love the fact that the world the map is based off is new and unique. I hate everything else.

I played as Orc 2 times and Barbarian 1 time. First time when I played as a orc, I gathered all my dudes and went to attack waterdeep. I slaughtered his base halfway in first few minutes until LB showed up bypassing those large watchtowers and steamrolled my base in like 10 seconds. When I tried to take my guys back to my base to fight LB off, Waterdeep swarmed out and sandwiched my army with LB. I used my minibase where my bloodeye hero was to take back my base but by then, I had 30 food limit and no resource income so I really couldnt do anything.

Second time around, I towered up my main base and upgraded my dudes like hell, when LB showed up again and massed his dudes. I was out in 10 minutes after the game started.

When I played as barbarian, I massed one of those Frenzied Barbarian or something (The rexxar looking one from the main base) and their cleaving attacks just slaughtered the red-blue efforts. They whined and whined about how overpowered my dudes were and everyone was gone by the time I came south.

What I'm trying to say is, the map is really really super duper unbalanced. Look through your stuff and tinker with things a lil bit more. Best of lucks dude.

Well, I'm sure theres some unbalance in the map yes, but its somewhat hard to try to make a map all by yourself and have no testers to officially test and then rebalance the different factions. And orcs start between Neverwinter and Waterdeep, so yes, you have the chance of getting killed by the other when you attack the other ((you should get Luskan to attack Neverwinter while you attack Waterdeep....)) But yeah, I know theres some unbalance between the different nations. I'm fixing stuff here and there when I have the time... But to get all the factions perfectly balanced alone? I don't think I can do that... But thanks for comments and testing it.

you can walk through the southern walls of port last (neverwinter)
I think the buildable towers should be able to be upgraded to the standard towers(or it would be nice)
I've not played the map to many times but i'm quite fond of it and i also think its been designed quite nicely,

Yeah I'm aware that theres a small hole in the southern walls of Port Llast, thanks. Also that tower idea seems pretty nice. and Thanks for feedback. Right now I'm unable to do anything for the map since tomorrow I'll be leaving to visit the States for 3 weeks  but I'll see to it after that.

This.. map.. is.. in-cre-di-ble! awesome customization and terrain mate! keep up the good work! :infl_thumbs_up:

Edit: After playing a few games. came to the conclusion that The Barbarians of Dale are way to over powered . That Cleave that those Rexxar looking guys have is just too much. I played a game where only by spamming those units, I slaughtered BOTH Red's and Blue's army. And they charged at me both at the same time, and I was still able to win that battle. And maybe The Orc Tribe could get another base or buff them up. Waterdeep and Neverwinter usually destroy them by just double teaming them. Other than that, I think that map is fantastic, and I would rate it a [4/5]. I will most certainly change to it 5/5 once you take care of those minor problems. :infl_thumbs_up:
By the way, if you ever need any testers to test your maps, I'm always available if you ever need anyone, just send me a message .

The terraining, doodads, items, units, models - superb. But I would really like it if you could make it easier to control the masses of units, like with a "division" system in Broken Alliances where when you move one unit, who is designated the leader, the others in his "division" copy his exact movements. Something to make the game smoother. And can you either make it spawn-based (big change, I know) or make it easier to build units? Like make most of the unit production buildings all be the same, so I can select 3-4 barracks and build multiple units with one click? Everything right now is great except the interface/gameplay itself, which could do with a few minor modifications. Nice work.
