How many MMORPGs do you know of which have survived more than 2 or 3 years without extra content being constantly added to it?

Each expansion for WOW is almost a completely different game. Different balances in PvP and PvE. It always changes. And yes people do quit, but it looks like many more start playing it. So I don't see atm how can wow die from expansions when on it's 2nd expansion Blizzard announced reaching 11 mil subscribers.

1 game, and i hate to say it, runescape.
i mean, Guild Wars has had new content added, more than WoW or any other game, but (except 4 Eye of the North) its only been minor things, and with eye of the north, there wasn t a massive movement of people from the original 3 games to the new areas, it was gradual, unlike WoW. in WoW once the expnasions were released people went out, bought them and left the old world behind, pretty much for good. now it is hard for lvl 60s to find a full raid to do onyxia or any other raid. also, with the new level caps, you get more and more noobs bitching about how long it takes to level up to the cap, gets really annoying.

That's the point, each expansion is not just some minor addon (like TFT is for RoC). It's a complete new game, complete new dungeons, complete new everything.

and thats what drives people away, they go to raid, but there aren't enough people because most people are off grinding to a decent level to run those expansion dungeons. i would grind to get to those other dungeons if the judgement armor was for level 70s or 80s, but its not so i run the lower dungeons, raids etc.

i see no reason to even think that WoW is going to die when there are 11 million people playing it lol. And second of all noobs only complain about the hard leveling because they never thought about why would they ask that, and the answer is that those who are already level 80 have been through the same problem as the noobs are going through. I personally think that it's not so hard to level, 4 of my friends started WoW at the first day of WotLK was released and they were all level 80 after almost a month.

... And yes people do quit, but it looks like many more start playing it...

That is very true, and I find that people who have played the game for a longer time are the ones who quit. I've been playing since day one, and this expansion would be the cause for me to quit if they don't make the game harder.
I'm not a hardcore gamer and I haven't completed ulduar yet, But it's too easy to even get half way through considering that it's endgame.
In vanilla WoW most guilds killed through MC, but struggled in BWL and some guilds didn't even finish, and OLD Naxxramas was hard as hell. This expansion we cleared Naxxramas (Not a lot of people did it from vanilla WoW) on day 2 of our first attempts, downed OS a day later, and Maly a week or two after.
My point is, it was FUN progressing but now we've lost it. They've made raids more like grinding rep, kill kill kill epics, done, now what? BAH! QQ
I understand some people just say "Well get more characters to 80 and gear them out, it'll keep you busy." But I don't want to have to, it was SO much fun doing BWL at 60! Even after countless wipes, most of us laughed it off and then when we killed a boss cheered and wiped some more.

Sure it's hard if you're JUST starting, but you just have to sit through it. Try grinding to 70 as a ret pally the whole time... It's hell without your two talent abils (I don't like pally prot for levelling) but hey, I made it there >.>
And I don't find anyone under level 80 doing level 60 raids (when they do its for nastalgia or so they can run around in there level 60 epics and look awesome xD) and nor do I mind them being left behind (Not forgotten, I will never forget those days )

Why would you WANT to go to a level 60 / 70 raid after an expansion? There's no reason because you can suffice with full greens (I levelled 58-64 with literally no gear except a terrible sword for the hell of it)

I remember when i played WoW... Hogger was elite and it took me 8 wekks to get even 38 lvl! now... I have BC and WotLK... i get lvl 30 easy in week. Hogger is not elite anymore. It's so easy now days. Blizzard nerffed xp need to lvl 20-60 and buffed xp reward from quests lvl 30-60... There is no challenge anymore D= only arena and pvp give little challenge. raids is easyer to... anybody remember retail naxx? 40 man vipe just like that... and why there need to be raids 10 man an 25 man? why not 10 man 25 man and 40 man so über raiders would have more fun. Blizzard shoul make retail server whic is patch 1.

I played wow 3 years , but i deleted my account cause wotlk was too easy for me. I killed Yogg-Saron , I had more then 60 lvl 80 epics , i had 3 lvl 80 characters and over 10k gold . In burning crusade we needed many weeks to kill Illidan and in wow classic we needed month to kill cthun but in wotlk we killed yogg-saron within a few days

WoW is a great game but i think i have played it too often and its too easy now^^ /played=210 days 210x24hours=5040hours

I was awful in leveling in wow and with the new expansions I saw that leveling was easier and I thought (cool, now I'll become one of the best easy, I didn't really think like this but something like this) and when I finally got to 60 and 70 I thought that it was awsome but then again I was just one in 7 millions (or whatever the crap) who got so high level so there wasn't anything special about it. My guess is that it wasn't back in 60 either but then the gear were worth so much more.

TFT was actualy a pretty big update. Especially in the editor.

WoW PvP was ruined from what I hear. I know a lot of people have moved to Warhammer online due to its fantastic PvP and RvR.

Maybe it's me but I find it VERY hard to believe you've cleared Ulduar enough times to get 60 Ulduar epics >.>, mostly because that would require EVERY boss to drop an epic or two in some cases seeing as the short duration it's been opened. If you can provide me you're armory page, hell I'd be impressed but... >.>

I recently stoped WoW since wotlk was pretty much a failure. What I miss is the good old MC raids. Everything was better in vanilla tbh. Raids actually were hard, wasn't so many lame ass addons that made everything easy, you actually had to grind like shit (believe it or not, but it was fun) to get stuff you want, Ragnaros was more epic than any other boss in wotlk so far, epic mount was something you could be proud of (I mean the OLD days :D), warriors pwned anyone with one MS, mages actually gave food/drinks, retri palas sucked ass, only warriors could be tanks, ferals were jokes, there was actually some good outdoor PvP going on, I could keep the list coming for eternity :S

Tbh wotlk just lacks end game content ;/

I would say wotlk has succeeded in what it did, making wow casual with hardcore modes. As a Ulduar raider myself, I have to say I find the hard modes quite hard.

As for the expansion - wow dies thing. Wow will never die until Blizzard says so, that is until they release something newer / better.

[...]cause they have "project hydra" under work and that is going to be new MMORPG (Will not be based on WC/SC/Diablo).[...]

Yeah I knew there was a new MMORPG under going development but wasn't sure what it'd be called or about (no one does unless there part of Blizzard's devs), I'm assuming "project hydra" is just a codename that's completely irrelevant?

Pre-TBC was awesome so I hear, I joined WoW during its dying age (Just a week before TBC came out).

TBC ruined WoW COMPLETLEY, it changed it from Awesome Raids and hard challenges to Lore Killing Repetitive raids that ruined PvP.

WotLK was an attempt to revive WoW, it almost did, but failed sadly. I can't believe 11 million people still play it. In Maelstrom they're gunna kill of Azshara or something, Emerald Dream you're going to fight like.. Corrupted Cenarius or Corrupted Malfurion or some shit.

I say WoW is over.

Example, Runescape, there is no REAL lore behind it, WoW has 5 games to follow up on, Runescape, none. Requiem, none, Guild Wars, none.. I think. If WoW never had TBC and went straight to WotLK, WoW would be AWESOME still.

Damn you Illidan, damn you. WoW was not prepared.

TBC was awesome , not classic.

All things in TBC were great the new races , new skills , the dungeons , arena , heroic mode , flying mounts.

Black Temple and SWP were great dungeons. They were difficult the design was awesome and the bossfights were great.

PRE-TBC FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... you actually think TBC brought some difficulty into the game? WoW was a game for good gamers back in the days, now its easy like shit to do everything, compared to what it was like in the good old days.
In wotlk and tbc 1-60 became easy as shit! IT was fun doing instance back then and do quests! now in the low lvles the only alternativ is almost only quest, quz it is so fucking much easier than the other! beat it, pre-tbc was best......

we even had Leeroy!

I might consider returning to wow if they make Maelstorm tho. It sounds pretty sexy if you're gonna be able to visit the goblins home island.

New Update from Blizzard:

An island somewhere off the shores of Northrend. A rock, hardly worth a second look. But as insignificant as it may seem, this is no ordinary place. A sound of thunder as waves crash endlessly against rocky cliffs; a sound of fury as swords clash on the blood-stained fields of this island on the edge of forever.
Welcome to the Isle of Conquest.
The ongoing struggle between Horde and Alliance has turned many once peaceful (and some not-so peaceful) places into theaters of constant war. The Isle of Conquest is the latest such place, set to be the location of a battle of epic proportions over the island's precious resources.

An Alliance and a Horde general are fighting for dominance, overseeing the action from the safety of their keeps. Whichever side manages to eliminate the enemy general first will triumph on the island; failure to protect your leader will bring shame, dishonor, and defeat. There is no peace accord here, and it’s an all-out war between the factions.
Once More into the breach...
Isle of Conquest, a new battleground scheduled to make its debut in the upcoming content patch, Call of the Crusade, will pitch teams of up to 40 players against each other in a massive battle over this small island off Northrend's northern coast. To win, your team will need to make use of the island's unique strategic locations including an oil derrick, a siege workshop, and a fully equipped airship hangar. You will deploy devastating siege weaponry on the field; Light have mercy on anyone caught between you and your ultimate target, the general holed up in the enemy keep.

There are five points of interest on the Isle of Conquest for the factions to battle over. Each one offers its own benefits and strategic value. Which one will you claim for your side, and will it be enough to ensure victory?

Capture Locations
Consider your options before storming out of your keep to confront the enemy head-on. Spread throughout the Isle of Conquest are several capturable locations (as seen on the map), each granting a unique strategic advantage to your team.

The Oil Derrick: Located on the northwestern end of the island, this smudge in the Frozen Sea produces enough black gold to run a thousand siege engines. Taking this resource garners precious reinforcements and a continuous flow of honor to the side that controls it.
The Cobalt Mine: This snow-covered assembly, located on the southeastern end of the island, hides untapped supplies that must be harvested. Taking this resource grants reinforcements and a continuous flow of honor to the side that controls it.
The Docks: The western shore's docks will further expand your selection of siege weapons with the devastating new Glaive Thrower and the Catapult. Unleash the destruction of the Glaive Thrower upon the walls of the keep, or launch your invading party over the walls to assault the keep from within.
The Airship Hangar: This sturdy steel structure stands on the peak of Mt. Conquest overlooking the eastern side of the island, allowing players to board the airship docked there. This devastating weapon of war is capable of raining death upon the heads of your enemies and destroying enemy defenses. Once onboard the airship, players will find it comes equipped with parachutes enabling a strike team to drop into the enemy keep from above.
The Siege Workshop: Situated right between the Alliance base and the Horde base, this siege workshop occupies a strategic hot spot. Seizing it grants the controlling party the ability to utilize an arsenal of siege vehicles perfectly suited to reducing the enemy keep’s walls to dust and ashes.
Graveyards: There are five graveyards in the Isle of Conquest that are attached to different points of interest on the map: the Horde base, the Alliance base, an oil spill island in the center of the map (attached to the siege workshop), the northeast corner (attached to the airship hangar), and the southwest corner (attached to the docks).

Main Objectives

The Keeps: The Horde and Alliance keeps sit at opposite ends of the island. These citadels host four easily accessible defensive cannons set on the ramparts, capable of unleashing hot fury onto oncoming attackers. Additional explosives sit safely stowed in the base of the keep along the back wall. At least, they’re safe as long as they don’t fall into enemy hands. If they do, though, they can be employed to bring the stone walls down from within.
The General: Holed up behind the keeps' massive walls, the generals command their forces from a position of relative safety. Should the keep fall and the general be slain, the Isle of Conquest will fall to the victor.
Reinforcements: Isle of Conquest uses a reinforcements system similar to that of Alterac Valley. The clock is ticking and every individual counts. If too many of your comrades fall to the enemy the battle will end in defeat. Killing enemy players will reduce their reinforcements by one for each kill, Once your faction’s reinforcements reach their limit, so too does your bid for control of the island and the wealth of resources you’ve fought so hard over.
An island somewhere off the shores of Northrend. A rock, hardly worth a second look. A test of strength. A chance to prove your might, to crush your enemies, to make a difference, a chance for endless glory and conquest.

Will you seize it?

i've only been with wow since middle of bc, heres what i get from my perspective, ghostcrawler on the wow forums was commenting on a hardcore player who said that wow was potentially ruined by how easy they made it. I think that they took the lesser of two evils by making it more catered to the casual, first of all because there are more casuals playing the game then hardcore. 2nd of all BC raids were barely puggable. I dont know about you but i was on sargeras at the time and i can guarantee you that if you werent in a dedicated raid guild who was demanding about you being there on time etc... you just didnt go into tempest keep, serpentshrine cavern or anything up. In fact you were lucky to get in mags lair or even gruuls lair and karazhan as cool as it was is also a difficult instance to group for, most pug groups id go into wouldnt get past curator b4 everyone quit and nobody wanted to get saved to a fail raid or a half way done raid because for alot of pplz kara was the only raid you were running in a week, you get into a bad raid and youre not running kara for another week=no gear.

As far as what ghostcrawler said about bc was that blizzard spends alot of $$$ to create new tier content like black temple or ulduar and if only a minority of the player base actually sees the content then its considered a money loss (in the sense that you spent $$$ on something that doesnt have alot of player return value if that makes sense) and that right there really bugged blizzard because they dont want to spend alot of money on something that isnt going to be used or seen by most of the player base.
So thats why they really changed things up in wotlk, and they tried addressing the whole-"cant take this class because they just dont bring any useful buffs/not enough damage" by doing some homogenizing. but thats another story. To be honest, i was more of a casual gamer in bc because of work and school i just didnt have the time to dedicate to a raid guild so it was only until weeks before they nerfed everything that i first saw tempest keep, and after the nerf i saw serpentshrine cavern, i still havent seen sunwell plateau and being completely honest i finally ran black temple with a bunch of 80's last week. Those are all cool places that i wasnt able to experience as a more casual gamer adn the changes they did "fix that". On the opposite side the hardcore gamers feel like they made everything too easy, there are hardmodes but they say its not the same thing *shrug* i dunno. i dunno this is just my perspective on the situation.

Blablabla

Your first sentence is saying "I played 1 week vanilla"; Then you claim it was better than BC? Go fork yourself.

THe only reason everyone is cherishing vanilla is mostly because some dumbshit noob started doing so... And everyone go along. It wasn't more hard than it is now. It was unbalanced if something... Many bosses could not even become beated until a nerf/fix patch.

Looking at this thread again.... So let me guess, this is just QQ from players WHO DIDN'T EVEN EXPERIENCE PRE-TBC CONTENT saying how much more awesome it was!?

In my opinnion people give vanilla such a high value because fans hate change, and when change happens some idiots start to QQ about how much more awesome the vanilla version was.

Meh, it's like feeding a kid who loves pancakes. If you feed them just a little with pancakes from time to time they will like it. However if you feed them everyday with pancakes they will in the end grow bored off it. I guess it's kinda the same with wow.

well, i had no idea 1 little post would spark this but, i have had some recent insight on the expansions. TBC is only slightly died to the earlier warcraft games and the books, the only areas of outland mentioned are Shadowmoon Valley, Zangarmarsh, Nagrand(Oshu'gun only really), and the hellfire peninsula as it was being turned to the red soil stuff, the rest was just filler. the ogres in the blade edge mountains couldn't shouldn't be, it wasnt until guldan used the altars of the storm to change the ogres in azeroth that they became intelligent, and silvermoon city was completely demolished by the scourge. WoTLK belongs, sort of, if u ask me WoTLK would be better if it was just icecrown build back up to a large size, but a new coninent risen out of the ocean, totally impossible, even for arthas. and what of the new players, i played TBC and was so happy when i reached lvl 70 with the best gear u could find, and then along came the anouncement of WoTLK within a week, i was like GOD DAMN YOU BLIZZARD WHY CANT I ENJOY MY UBERNESS!? the fact that it would be another 10 painfuly slow lvls and grinding raids just pissed me off, im sure im not alone, but some ppl enjoy the challenge and the boring failures on various raids, but its just slowly been ruining itself, what illidan meant to say was "THIS IS A BAD IDEA" not "YOU ARE NOT PREPARED"
