Why Your SC2 Section Is Dead

First time logging into this site in.. oh idk.. a few years?

Just came back to upload my newly created USS Enterprise D model (http://i.imgur.com/rrBMRXN.png), when I realized something:

Your SC2 section is completely dead. And here's why:

On 09-11-2013 I received a few automated messages from moderator Statharas saying that all of my resources had been taken down. Why? Things like my space texture wasn't 256x256, that my planet pack wasn't uploaded to a mod (just had the files on hand), etc.

Seeing as how I no longer have access to those models (new HDD since creation) as soon as they were deleted from this site they were erased from history. This was the only place they existed.

What little chance you had for an SC2 community here was immediately squished by Statharas, in my opinion anyways.

Basically: bullshit.

Had a lot of fun with THW.. sadly I won't really miss it as up until this point I basically forgot it existed.

I'll take my models to an area they're appreciated, aka Sc2 Mapster.

With love,

The site has some minimum quality standards which aren't hard to meet, you are free to refuse those standards if you wish and share your resources elsewhere.
Surely the current resource approval system is by no means flawless but it ensures a certain standard at least and promotes artistic endeavor over theft and plagiarism.

There is a number of reasons why SC2 modding is weak on the site but hardly any of them are related to your reason.

That's a shame to hear, but this is not an issue with the site. You should keep backups. Don't depend on others to hold on to your files.

I don't think we've taken much time to look at the policies used in the Sc2 resources section because there's such little activity there. If we're going to discuss the quality standards in the Sc2 section though, I'll throw my two cents in. I think the standards are a bit too low at the moment. It seems some of the poor quality resources that were there previously have been trimmed out, but I still see a lot of things that don't have a lot of polish.

Agreed.

Its because I have a no-competition agreement with SC2Mapster moderator Dr Super Evil (guess why? I am sure most of you know). Once I was competing trying to make hive better than mapster but I was under appreciated and apparently disposable so I decided to just let it be and sit back. I try and help if people ask but I do not go out of my way to promote this site for SC2 as I feel it will not offer the quality of support they need (few people can help out with SC2 problems).

I personally find resource moderation far too strict. There was a time when I was childish and loved rejecting stuff for dumb reasons but I kind of grew out of it and see how it just does not work. Stuff should only be rejected if it really needs rejection (illegal, stolen, etc) and not because its textures are wrong or something dumb. Obviously very good resources should be promoted, but the system should allow those to be separated out from the rest, not the rest removed from them.

In any case SC2mapster is actually not doing that well last I checked. It was receiving similar traffic as this site does for WC3 which is hardly really good seeing how WC3 is soon a decade old and SC2 is still in development. However I think that is down to SC2 not the site although with the completely free arcade that we have now I am guessing this will change over the next few months (or not? maybe the new gen consoles and P2W games will take over). There have been times I felt like going to SC2mapster but it just does not seem worth the hassle as it will likely cause much confusion seeing how I share an IP address with a moderator.

Just came back to upload my newly created USS Enterprise D model (http://i.imgur.com/rrBMRXN.png), when I realized something:
Geometry looks alright although a bit smooth (was the real thing really so lacking on surface detail?). Hard to tell with the textures as the render shown off appears quite flat.

I've previously voiced my opinion on this. When the site is having a hard time taking off, the standards have to be more lenient. Which is actually how wc3sear.ch started out: it accepted nearly everything (the Maps section did, at least), exceptions made for stolen, illegal or pornographic material.

If the standards are too strict, people will prefer other websites. This (thread) is a demonstration, but I'm also talking about people who haven't even registered and evaluate the site from outside before deciding to join us (or not). Nevertheless, on that end, we have a larger problem, which is portrayed in TriggerHappy's and Linaze's posts.
