What part of the site are you searching in?

How would search work if you invented it?
im not inventing search system xD,well i saw forums that have better "search" systems so i was wondering ...

in help zone,ok so i type "increase" and i get some posts taht have nothing to do with it like

Upgrade Problems
Terrain issue
Ability
avatar magic
........
and than later i get
Increasing Map Size

so i would like to know why is "Increasing Map Size" not before other threads?

If you search for "increase" I think it just tries to find the posts where the word "increase" occurs the most.

yeas it is because of that ......

seriously,if i type "increase" search threads ....than it needs to search threads and ignore the posts

would be good to make Search Thread and Search post option.....

The resource section search has major problems I find.

For example search for "heroes and empires"...
You will notice that other maps have higher relvancy and thus are higher on the list than the map which is actually called heroes and empires in the tital...

This is not how a map search should work... If I want to find a map, ill enter in text simlar to its ingame tital and I expect it to be nearish the top. Currently the map "AoE - Age of War 0.6 " is appearing above the map "Heroes and Empires v7.3 " as being more relavent when searched for "heroes and empires" which makes no sense as one clearly has the search term inside the map title while the other has absolutly no words from the search term in its title.

I am sure all this search makes perfect sense mathimatically and programatically, but I am trying to raise the point that it really is not effective and is a major falling point of this site. I think a large problem is it loves to read in keywords and text on the main post rather than the actual map titles, which gives obscure and undesired results.

Compair it to the search that mapgnome uses, there you type in heroes and empires and huge lists of maps which are called heroes and empires appear and no other maps. Yes you could try filling in other possible simlar maps with a revelency factor, but maps who are called heroes and empires should appear at the top, not somewhere half way down the list below some entires which have none of the search terms in their title.

Note that this does not only happen for a search of "heroes and empires", but also for "Impossible Siege".

There is a map called "Impossible Siege", so saerching for "Impossible Siege" should yield the map near the top of the list.... Well our search does not, currently the map appears on page 6. Yes a map whos title almost solely consists of the search terms is appearing lower and "less relevent" than a map called "Bombing Frenzy 1.0" which seems nowhere near related to "Impossible Siege".

Thus I conclude. The map search currently seems broken.

I've had similar problems while searching for users in the members list.
Short (random) example:
If I search for: "TheWorldIsFlat" no matches are found, altough "The World Is Flat" should obviously appear (might be a bad example as this search includes one word only, whereas the user's actual name consists of three, but I think you get the idea).

well,i think there should be some options xD

search type:
- titles (thread titles, sort by titles)
- posts (your word typed found in posts, sort by - number of words in posts)
- keywords (i mean keywords like in spell selection)
- Advanced Search

this shouldn't be hard to be done because there already is a way to do this types of search but they are in advanced search -.-
