What's going on with WC3campaigns.net?

Imagine if Ralle's port of the data finally goes live in 2025 as a christmas gift to all humanity, and when we all visit the page it's just an automatic redirect to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up"

To be honest, when my message rolled to a new page I believed a moderator had removed it, for being too silly.

Wc3c was mostly a secret society that I wasn't privy to, back when I was too young to use the internet and we only downloaded the creative works of other people as silent outsiders. But nonetheless... I hope things work out, it would be fun to see the site again. Honestly I wish the same would happen for Scrolls of Lore, and I only ever knew of that site mostly because of its tendency to pop up in response to searches for Warcraft 3 Alpha and Beta screenshots.

The people crave wc3campaigns!

Vashj's toes, this thread is still alive, six years later!

Oh crap, is the site gone??? I have a few old http://www.wc3c.net/ thread links I used as references for my ongoing project that I kinda needed to look at...

Have you tried Wayback Machine? It did not retain wc3c's resources (mostly), but might have retained forums

Yeah, I actually did after I posted. By some miracle, my links had been saved...but I guess searching the forums for anything else is gonna be hard now...(wasn't Google supposed to be partnering w/the internet archive to index the wayback machine??? Wtf happened to that?).

I'm relieved my own links were saved, but I'm crushed if the site is gone for good. Another forum to add to my list of lost media (yes, I have a list)...

Have you tried Wayback Machine?
Thinking of old websites disappearing, I'd be worried that Wayback Machine might disappear at some point soon too. It might be a good time to store your own data and memories

I heard about this years ago, but I thought it was a secret... I had no idea there was a whole 6-year-old, public thread about it. Well, I'm definitely watching this space! Wc3C was my OG Wc3 modding website, and I have very fond memories of my time there, not to mention all the resources, tutorials, the people... and all the many, many times I've hyperlinked my posts here to something there which are now dead 💀 (including everything in my signature 💀💀)

Any luck, Ralle?

If it's any consolation, I checked all the links in your sig yesterday, and those particular pages are all on the Wayback Machine iirc (tho unfortunately, no file attachments on them have been archived)

Ralle might be our only hope now 🙏

That's very cool of you! I still would have to update them all to be wayback links if I wanted them to work... maybe someday I'll get to that 😅

Hey guys, I don't know if this is perceived as exciting or disrespectful but I saw your 3 new posts tonight on this thread and so I thought I would try asking the AI to bring wc3c back to life for me as a new forum website with the same style, and it created this:

So, obviously that doesn't have the original forum content but I was able to sign up to the thing the AI hallucinated into existence and it sent me like an email to authenticate my account (DONT reuse any passwords on this thing, it has got to have probably poor computer security due to being entirely vibe-coded from a text box and me saying "ahhh please recreate wc3c" to a bot).

But this kind of raises an interesting question, is the plan for WC3C content to be born again as a visitable page people could log in to and interact with using Hive or something, or will the content just be dumped onto Hive in the same native Hive interface? I'm just curious.

Obviously Hive's interface is much better and more fully featured than that AI hallucinated one...

('m glad I hadn't signed up yet; wish you'd warned me earlier that it was AI vibe-coded. 🤔)

To answer your question I believe the plan was for it to simply exist eternally as an archive, not interactible/sign-in-able.

Yes and then we can have the AI hallucinate a working replica of Warcraft 3 to play with the hallucinated models and then post about it on the hallucinated site, and we can call it The Matrix

.... and we will finally be able to live in the past again, and gaming will be good!!!!

I think not. When the AI hallucinated techtrees and experiences inside of Warcraft 3 format that would load on the original game, it would make mistakes. For example I played an AI generated Naga race that had the creep unit Murloc Tiderunner spawn 5 times to be the worker, but it couldn't build structures and instead the player had to train Mur'gul Slave from the Temple of Tides that spawned in to get any usable workers. But it might be a tools problem, maybe it could do better if it had analytical access to the custom campaign units in a text file format.

So I guess, as it pertains to the original topic, it's still valuable to save the old data and hopefully Ralle really does have a copy.

I still email him once per month.

If there's a particular link or thing you are looking for I can take a look if I have it.
Would you happen to have the page linked in my below quoted post? 🙏

Anyone happen to have a backup of this thread? It's not on the Wayback Machine :(
The Noob's Guide to Announcer Voices - WC3C.net

Does Ralle actually have a backup of the forums/resources, or is that just a rumor?

Also, if you have your own backup of the forums, for now would it be possible to scan old Hive posts for any links to wc3c/wc3campaigns and somehow insert those specifically? Some of the pages linked from The Hive are available on the Wayback Machine, but some aren't.

is it possible to log in though?

i had an account on Wc3C and it feels like it would be fun to log in again. The password was the same as my battlenet & hive password, it's the same one that the scammers got in the 2016 hive site hack and then they start emailing you the password in the subject line of emails saying they'll destroy your life unless you give them money

Since I only used it on those 3 things it would be funny to log in to Wc3C again using that password to laugh at how they didn't destroy my life

It's like how the password to the retera account on the Warsmash bnetd instance on warsmash.net is asdf, that's how you beat them

if you take a look now it should be up.

Wc3C.net Archive — Warcraft III Modding Forums - it's based on my backup.
man that's so sick. thanks for doing even this.

it's crazy, it even has (seemingly) working downloads of all those custom assets. I was able to download AnemicRoyalty's glorious Tiki Mask model again 🥹

It is a shame that it seems to only have archived the first ~15 messages of any given thread. RIP my megathreads

No it explicitly indicates at the start & at the bottom of every page that it's a static recreation, no logging in supported.

===

@Strydhaizer get in here, you can finally fulfill your dream from this thread (with a lot of time 😅)

What do you mean? It has pagination and there are multiple pages like this one:

Not without faking the data or just allowing a hive account to login or something weird. Nah, this is an archive and it's showing the data I have.

Huh. I can see the pagination & the many posts. All the threads I was messing around with (my own, to fix all the long-broken Signature links I have here) all stop at 15, including this one or this one which I know went on for many, many pages, lol. Even just scrolling down the page of most forums, in the "Replies" column, I never see it go higher than 14/15 (I could not find that Diablo thread, though, to compare).
//EDIT// Ok I finally found that Diablo thread you linked organically in the subforum... and yeah wow it shows "330 Replies". Literally everything else on that page (pg82) is capped at 14 though, as I'm seeing everywhere else. That Diablo one is the first one I've seen to not be capped. 🤔
