As I do not believe in any religions I tend to look uppon it with artistic eyes. Reading the bible for instance might give many good ideas of how to create you're own ideas for story writing, I also find it interesting to look up several religions to see what people believe in and why they do so.

Nothing.....

I dont need any religion to do good things to other people or to have a happy live.

Religion is nothing wrong and a has some good ideas but there are way to may people that abuse the religion to get money/power or just misunderstand it. But the biggest problem are people that vindicate (hope its the right word^^) their actions with religion.

I think people who have a religion are necrophobic. Can't control the paranoia. Scared to die. (Jk sortof) I myself am a Christian, but I never go to church. I practice religion strictly on my own (my mother thinks I'm going to hell because I don't believe in the old testament).

No offense, but religion is just complete bullshit and means nothing to me.

For 'no offense' you've certainly put it in words that are quite offensive. Please refrain from doing this in the future.

For the rest of this thread's journey...

If I see even the slightest hint of an argument brewing, I'm closing the thread for good, and will severely punish the one who started it.

When I think of religion, what comes to mind are rules, control and punishment. Not because I've received punishment, been a victim of control or placed under strict rules by my parents or anyone else, but because that is what I see, read about and get told.

I'm all fine with people believing in a supreme being, but I'm against people who claim to be a messenger of the supreme being of their religion. They demand money, that their followers act like they want, following their rules. While I doubt this is the will of any supreme being if such would exist.

Personally, I belong to no religion, no definite belief. I am my own lord, I make my own rules. I dislike being called an Atheist or an Agnostic, although those terms vaguely describe my involvement with religion (I know the meaning of both, and I am aware that you cannot be both, as that would be contradiction, but I am neither, yet bits of both - I am not denying a supreme being, but I doubt it) ..

If that made any sense at all, I'm pleased.

Religion means, for me, many things. It's an opportunity to argue with people over the internet. It's a plughole for unnecessary stereotypes from all sides. It's a way for science fiction novelists to get a quick buck. It's a way to help children learn about morals. It's a way for adults to stop thinking for themselves. It's an obstacle in the objectivity of society. It's quite possibly right. It's quite possibly wrong. It's a cure for cancer with shady results. And it just might be a reason to enjoy life a little more.

One thing it's not, however, is a reason to watch over a thread like a fucking hawk. There's a guy asking for rep in the Anime thread. There's a good start for seeming less like a shamelessly biased asshole.

To no one in particular, of course.

Who are these people that do this? I know their out there, but I can't remember one off the top of my head. This is constantly brought up against religion, but I honestly don't think you can call those sorts of organizations religion, and I think they're few and far between.

I hate religion, thanks to it, there was bloody war in our ex country (which dissolved). One nation, which is split in three, they won't admit it, they are all the same, only the religion is different and they still claim they are separate nation, and that only because of religion. It's quite interesting, the serbs hate christian albanians less than their muslim mates (bosniaks).

Yeah none of that would happen without religion. Culture never does that or anything.

Are you being sarcastic?
Christianity, Islam, Judaism.. all of these are good examples of what I mention. I don't know enough about Buddhism and Hinduism (or other, less popular religions) to point my finger at them, but it wouldn't surprise me if there's some sort of powerlust and greed within those religions too.

I smell power abuse. :D

"Religion" is a word billions of people use to describe a concept they know shit all about, admit they know nothing about it, but still want to talk about, because they are sure they are right. Despite not knowing much about it at all.

You were probably looking for, "What does your religion mean to you?" Religion in general includes not only your religion, but the religions of everyone else.

Love the Christian flavored poll, by the way.

No, but seriously, if anyone wants this reopened, just ask. I don't want to be the only one posting. :(
