Actually it began in IRELAND you dumbass. I can feel the anti-americanism from here.

Halloween is celebrated by a good portion of the world including, United Kingdom, United States, Ireland, Canada, sometimes Australia and New Zealand and many Latin American countries where it is known as Noche de las Brujas (Night of the Witches). American celebration huh?

The first beginings of a Halloween celebration in Ireland could have begun as far back as 835 AD, like 1200 freaking years ago.

Meanwhile, due to a lot of puritan bollocks, the United States did not even begin to acknowledge that Halloween EXISTED until the 19th century.

Get some info before you judge next time.

although it is fair to say it isnt as massive here as you might expect, if anything it is getting less popular because we used to get trick or treat kids but now we dont get them. most teenagers arent really interested unless it gives em an excuse to terrorise people.

Aeroblyctos, USA hardly ever ATTACKS anyone, we do have a few military actions however to defend allies, and innocent people who are being attacked.
If we didn't we would be getting bitched at for not butting in.
Oh and USA only acts as the "leader" because everyone put USA in that place.

Its very simple you are either retarded or jealous.

Lets get back on topic.

Honestly, after September 11th, how could the States NOT go into Afgahnistan? Give me a break. But that's enough of that.

Halloween takes it roots as a Christian holiday, but nowadays it's really just an excuse to have fun moreso than any religious values. There are no religious conotations with Halloween aside from the date, as you aren't really celebrating anything Christian by participating in Halloween.

USA have attacked since last 50 years to Vietnam, Laos, Gambodza, Cuba, Grenada, Afghanistan and Iraq. Do you know other county that have attacked so much? No, there's not.

What allies you are now protecting?

Huh? You mean you(usa) is attacking all the time innocent people for example in Iraq and Afghanistan? I can read everyday from our newspaper that you(usa) have killed again Iraq or Afghanistan innocent people.

I have not see any USA innocent people killed in your country by other country.

Who putted? You(usa) putted yourself.

I see it's very hard to discuss without insulting others. Please do not insult me.

Let's stop this. I'm not gonna post here anymore because this is off-topic. If you still want to speak with me, please PM me or make a new topic about this case and PM about it. I'm sorry everyone.

What are you going to be for halloween?

Now, because Halloween is tomorrow, I thought it would be nce to know what you're going to dress up as. Just because you're old doesn't mean you can't dress up. Maybe you're going to a costume party or maybe you want to dress up for the little kids who come trick or treating.

Personally, I'm going to be Bill Lumbergh from Office Space. I've got the slacks, the shirt, the tie, the suspenders, and the coffee mug. I've even got my Lumbergh impression down.

You?

I'm considering being the scariest monster of all, just because it's easy.

I do live in Serbia and there is but most of the people dont care they just give u something so that u can leave them alone.

Halloween is celebrated in the western countries, because it's mostly catholic holiday. We don't celebrate it like they do.It's just fun for kids here.

This country here isn't really into Halloween and stuff, only on internet.

The same thing.
I thought to paint my face and hands with ketchup to scare little kids (or at least my brother), but I turned on the TV and I saw a special Halloween episode of Billy & Mandy on Cartoon Network has started (long time no see).
Now I guess I could celebrate this awesome event by watching a horror movie.

you say that.. i say ROFLMAO!! we do not celebrate it as a catholic holiday, only for fun.

Pope Gregory IV standardized the date of All Saints' Day, or All Hallows' Day, on November 1 in the name of the entire Western Church in 837.It was later transfered to October 31 because of the caledar changes.

It's gone through more anti-godifying than Christmas, (if you don't believe Christmas is a christian holiday look at the name Christ-mas) now I see people of all religions celebrating what used to be christian holidays, and I don't even understand how an Atheist could celebrate Christmas, after all most Christmas songs talk about the birth of Jesus and about God.

Halloween actually is rooted from a pagan holiday? Are you pagan? Didn't think so. So why do you celebrate Halloween? Because it's fun. Because it's fun, and because it's a tradition you enjoy, not just a religion. I doubt people have the birth of Jesus in mind when they hang their socks over the fireplace. I really doubt paint eggs is done in appreciation of the resurrection. It's just a tradition. And, if anything else, we could all use a good excuse to just go out and have some fun nowadays.
Little kids are doing it here sometimes, while its a fucking American holiday.
Irish, actually.

I'm gonna dress as me! It's the most awesome costume in the World! Because I am UNIQUE.
This is the most common costume in the history of Halloween.

Also, with 6 BILLION people on Earth, you are more than likely not unique.

You don't know your history very well, do you?

Quoted. For. Truth.

I live in sweden and if you translate the english word for christ-mas into the swedish word there is nothing about Mr. Jesus in it.

I don't sing silly songs about Jesus.

People should research things before they argue.

I went to work on Halloween. Hurray.
I actually haven't dressed up for Halloween in a while. Hopefully next year.

Oh and the Catholic holiday is all saints day, which is after Halloween (although the celebration started with sundown the day before All Saints day). The name Halloween comes from All Hallows Eve, meaning the Eve of All Saints day. The whole thing we have today started with the Irish like MSBB said. They thought the dead came back to ruin crops and shit like that on the 31st of October. This was the new year for them or something.

Although All Saints' Day is now considered to occur one day after Halloween, the two holidays were, at that time, celebrated on the same day. Liturgically, the Church traditionally celebrated that day as the Vigil of All Saints, and, until 1970, a day of fasting as well. Like other vigils, it was celebrated on the previous day if it fell on a Sunday, although secular celebrations of the holiday remained on the 31st. The Vigil was suppressed in 1955, but was later restored in the post-Vatican II calendar. So the church celebrated it, as well as it celebrated All Saints' Day.
