WC3 Reforged Installation

Hello All,

I have been trying to play WC3 Reforged for at least 7 days with no avail.

Endless back and forth with Blizzard support has proven that they basically have zero ability to troubleshoot.

Problem :

Every time I press play through battle.net I get the error message

“Game data is unable to load and must be repaired. Please run Blizzard app to repair the game. If the problem persists, try reinstalling the game”

What I have tried so far :

  1. Repaired like 30 times
  2. Re-installed like 10 times.
  3. Re-installed without logging into battle.net app.
  4. Changed my connection
  5. Changed installation folders.
  6. Disabled Firewall and Windows Defender.
  7. Flushed DNS.
  8. Switched regions from battle.net and game regions.
  9. Cut 2 cases with Blizzard. Zero help. AI responses.
  10. Disabled background applications
My PC Specs :

Windows 11
i5-12400F
32 DDR4 RAM
RX 6750 XT OC

I would really appreciate any help I can get to play the game.
 
From my observation, restarting laptop/PC has almost zero effect on most issues with Reforged, but it is always worth a shot to try. Reforged also seem to don't like apps like Sonic Radar and Sonic Studio which causes audio initialization issues, which is dumb because these are part of Asus sound tools to improve sound quality.

As for this issue, is your Firewall limiting things? As stupid as this sounds, some antivirus might also intervene, though for me with Kaspersky it has been pretty smooth.

I don't played Reforged just yet, but the error you encountered here seems to be rare. As Daffa mentioned above, there's something that might cause your game to be malfunctioned, like third party apps or even AV/Firewall. It's literally difficult to find what's the exact reason the problem occur.

I only have pre-Reforged versions of WC3 1.29.2 on my PC. The game worked without issue, even I have numerous third-party apps. My AV (ESET NOD32) doesn't recognize the executable file as malicious.

This should be good enough specs to play. I don't want you to leak any personal information, but can you share any information about your physical region on Earth and whether you're behind any known sort of country-wide or other firewall with special settings?

I know it sounds a bit odd, but in 2019 there was I time that I played Warcraft III often online with a friend from somewhere in Africa or something like that. He said that he could only play the game if he used a VPN to the United States. I never had this problem, because I was located in the United States at the time. I believe the specific issue that he faced was solved in 2020, but what if something similar came back?

More recently I have not been using the Reforged client often, but a similar problem might exist in your specific situation today. It's possible that the various folks at Activision Microsoft who maintain this game were only testing in the United States recently, whereas you might live in a country that monitors everything you do on the internet and that country might intercept and change how the internet traffic works. The way that this country changes the traffic might be inconsistent with the way that the Battle.net operates, or something. (I'm mostly just guessing, but it is something to try. VPN to the United States might be fairly straightforward to obtain, especially if you only use it for a short time to test and then cancel it if it does not work.)

If the VPN solution was not helpful, the other thing that you might try:
  • Create a new account on Windows where the username of your account only includes the English 26 alphabet letters and no other characters. So for example if your Windows username is Chinese, or is Cyrillic Russian letters, or is some Spanish like mañana then make a new account name manana instead. I have written code similar to Reforged game code for fun in the past, and sometimes I made this mistake where my code would break unless the location of the game data was a simple path on the computer with only the 26 alphabet letters.
  • Try a configuration where English is the only language installed on the Windows computer. If you have typing enhancements that let you change between English and some other keyboard when typing in Windows, uninstall those typing enhancements and turn them off

These are possible things to test that broke code I wrote in the past, even though I have no idea if they fix Reforged. I think it's just something to try when you're out of other ideas.

Got the same problem though, it started after 2.0 update was trying again yesterday and got the same issue
