Hello everybody. So I am contemplating creating an RPG. However, as with many RPGs, they get quite boring and repetitive. Or they seem the same as all others.
So, basically, I am wondering what tips you guys have for creating RPGs? This can include anything from specifics systems, to ways to create quests and heroes, boss encounters, etc etc.
Thank you very much!

-Good Terrain...
-Some Attachment system will be nice... :)
-Good Bossfight (balanced one), something like dodging the missiles and spells.. dunno, u chose :)...
-Many heroes...
-Not too slow leveling, but not too fast.. :)
-Proffesion System: -Making Weps/Armor/Rings,Necks.../Making potions...
-Farming: Low chance of dropping material required for making weapons/armors and other...

TELL ME IF YOU NEED SOME HELP  !

Actually imo disregard what aki said about the many heroes thing and professions
Those are all too easily things to be expected, sure they don't show up in noob stuff but in more serious maps they're a bit lackluster carry overs from other RPG/MMORPG.

Try to think of something truly creative, yet doable in wc3.
So focus on simplicity, yet creative simplicity. Instead of just doing 20 heroes, do 3 or 4 really good, creative heroes. New methods of hero building would be a welcome sight, try to find something creative that's less mundane then just farming monsters. There's tons of areas people just never think to innovate in, they're what makes something truly interesting to play.

Hmmm...yeah, I definitely see your point
In order for this to be a good RPG, the small things need to be made fantastic. There has to be a constant "Wow!" factor involved

I will definitely do some brainstorming so I can do that. And yeah, definitely simplicity.
Thanks a lot!!

Edit: As a matter of fact, I just thought of some things :)

I didn't mean 15+ heroes :xxd:...
Like 8-10 heroes would be good, but with custom "Element"...
2 Healers, 2 Tanks (not same, like warrior and druid in WoW (but not them)) 3 Dps and 3 Magic Dps heroes.......................
Something like that
Element - Like 3 magic dps = Dark/Fire/Water...

That guy made no sense
And I like the idea about having just one hero and then specializing from there!! That would actually work very very well with my storyline.

I also just thought about 'expansion maps'
So after lets say you reach level 40, you go to another map (more storyline, harder bosses, etc), then go to level 100, etc etc
I think itd be cool

on the map i am currently working on (rpg) I found that using a different camera style makes a huge change to the overall feel of the game.

You have to be careful with camera systems, I for one love it when they take it out of the normal wc3 view, but you have to be careful it doesn't get obstructed by cheap things.

If you're doing 3rd person, one way to rectify this is to constantly check the collision behind the player, and should something enter there adjust the camera so it's closer to the player - I have an old map that I did that in and it worked out pretty well (though I never finished the map).
