Female Character "Danah"
The Dark Triad - Akhazal Quest is a turn-based old-school isometric RPG with 3D graphics being developed by indie team Autoloot Games.

For their project, they require some animated models. That is why they've launched a contest where members of the Hive have to create a model for the female character Danah.

The winner will receive not only $200, but also credits, a digital copy of the game and the soundtracks.
Other participants will also be given a surprise.
Note that Danah is not the only needed model, so the winner of the contest will most likely be asked to continue making other models for The Dark Triad.

Details about the model such as animations, poly count, etc. can be found in this thread.

Deadline: 20th March, 2013

Why did they choose the Hive Workshop out of interest? Did the developers come here when they were younger and into WarCraft III? Or are they attracted by the number of skilled modellers that hang here?

Usually this sort of contest would be better to host on art portals where they get a lot more exposure.

What is up with high-heels on all female action heroines? I can understand the half-naked appeal but the use of high-heels can be compared to lugging around a ball and chain or shackles when it comes to mobility. You will certainly not see such a woman in high-heels crossing a boggy marsh, snowy field, sandy beach/desert or any non-hard and flat ground.

This was one of my biggest annoyances with Blizzard and both StarCraft II and Diablo III where a lot of the female characters have high heels. The Queen of Blades is sort of acceptable since she can float to some extent but a Demon Hunter who relies on mobility?! Maybe I am totally out of touch with reality but to me they do not look like very practical footwear (such as that worn by the male Demon Hunter).

So who is planning on entering out of interest? Surly someone is interested?

Actually all your guesses are correct. Our Lead Coder has kept reading these forums since many years ago and he's actually who pointed us out to here. 2 of our members have played WCIII A LOT, and at the same time we were amazed by your talent, guys.

So who is taking part? It would be very disappointing if no one did. If you are a up and coming artist this could be a great opportunity for you. $200 is quite a bit of pocket money and by the looks of things you would stand a good chance of scooping it. For the amount of effort required it would give good returns, probably higher than the average real paid job (if you win only).

Do not forget...
the winner of the contest will most likely be asked to continue making other models for The Dark Triad.
It can be assumed you will be getting some form of commission for this, after all they are a commercial company.

Do not think the money and rewards are all you stand to gain from this. You can quite reasonably expect a mentioning in the game credits (at least that is the normal among all games I have seen). This would look very good on a CV and help you when seeking employment. All in all a great deal for the up and coming artist and could certainly help you get into the industry.

This is a promotional post trying to encourage people to enter, I do not represent the contest holders in any way.

Yeah cmon ppl join in! :D
You now got the opportunity to not only make money from doing what you love, but also have something concrete you can add to your CV which can really help you later on if you want to continue with model creation or digital design in general ;)

Share your talent outside the warcraft community, get the recognition you deserve and continue your path towards becoming a well-recognized artist with a job you love to do! :)

I'm really looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with! I'll be following this thread for sure ;)

So just to clarify for myself:

As the game is isometric I am going to assume certain details and such will not be required?

And specifics on quality / texture size / format / required animations / bones (or maybe going full out with muscle mechanic). Whats actually required?

And yea, it does sounds great and always nice to see when Modders go back to their roots so to speak

If you go to the first post of this thread you should find all answers to your questions.

In case of doubt let me know.

- The maximum of bones that can be used is 72. You can only use simple skinning, without muscle deformation systems and the like, otherwise we'll have issues when importing it to our engine. You can use more than one mesh, but all of them must be animated through skinning, not attached to moving bones.

I hope this helps.

I'm going to add this to the Guidelines on the contest url.

Btw guys, we launched The Dark Triad: Dragon's Death on Greenlight's Main Section. Soon we'll launch a Kickstarter Campaign and show a basic gameplay video =)

hmm, i would consider joining, but i don't think $200 is enough for my modelling talents
The $200 is just the cash prize. Throw in the other rewards such as a copy of the game with soundtrack and a possible contract and you may find it considerably more appealing.

Even if you enter and do not win, there is a good chance to get something if your work was of a reasonable standard.

I am not an expert modeler, but I am learning how to make scratch models. So, while I can make no promises, I will try my hand at this :) If someone would be willing to pm like every detail of what I have to do and can/cannot do that'd be really convenient and appreciated. if not, I'll read around on that link XD.

I'm not trying to be rude or funny, but there isn't exactly much to like.
It's 18 seconds long and only 5 seconds of that is in-engine footage and it's just a still camera pan...

Great game looking game (on your website) but I have to be honest; that particular video isn't going to convince me to back you.

Hi guys,

We've just released our Kickstarter campaign video, hope you like it! =)

Kickstarter campaign video:

Its more of a teaser than a campaign video - I would advice quite a lot more explanation, talk and showing off than it currently does. If taken as a short teaser its does its job amiably though, I was wondering about the overuse of the cross model.

Grey Nightmare and RED BARON thanks for your opinions, i'll take it into account, I know what you mean!

Yea, its a tough job - been researching it quite a bit in connection with our own preparations in regards to kickstarter and indigogo. We have however lowered our own current project so we might not need it. But being able to give some info to others aren't bad either.

Showing workplace while commenting also seems to be a good idea

Ey guys,

First of all, sorry for the big delay. As you may know, the KS campaign didn't go that well and we needed to make some big changes to the game and this had a great impact at many levels. We'll launch again in 3 months to make it better this time.

Regarding the contest, I'd like to know if the participants have been able to finish the animations. I'd would be a pity that we can't select a winner taking into account the couple of really good models I've seen so far.

So might question is: would you like us to give us more time to finish what you need to do? Due to the changes in the game we are not in a big rush, so we could extend the time a bit more.

Let me know,

Abel B.

WoW man, I was afraid to you have lefted us with out message, thats why I freezed my work one week ago, anyway I am about to finish uv mapping, and start animating, If fbx support animation skeleton than animating will probably take me only few days, but I have to do some details on mesh, btw this is my first time to I do character model, so I dont know how good are my chances.
Next time (if you leave us for few days/weeks), please at least share message.
About bonus time, for me it would be nice, if you can wait :)
