Just wanted to let people know that I'm still working on the grunts, although I kinda put the TH grunt on hold cause I got bored with him. Plus I started getting ideas on how to make a Stormreaver warrior/caster hybrid thing.
Here's an early picture on how he looks so far.

He's far from done of course. Any suggestions? The red stuff is TC. I of course recommend using making them blue ingame as that's the Stormreaver colour.

You keep surprising with the originality. As for this model... the chain really looks 2D xD
If you want to keep it a texture, try making it look a little better. Either way, when the Grunt moves it'll be obvious that the chain is "attached" to him.

Thanks! I don't think it's neccesary, thank you for the offer though!
I have been thinking about making more units for the tribes, but it's not very high on my priority list. It takes very long, and it gets extremely boring working with the same model over and over again.

Yeah, I think I need to work on that chain a bit more. I might use the chain from the Pitlord if I can't make it look good on the texture.

Well, he isn't completely a mage. He's a sort of warlock/warrior hybrid thingie. But I don't see how he looks like a peon?
I have thought about putting skulls in his belt?

for the blade:
how about coyping the plane, flipping it horizontally, moving verts in the middle a bit out and connecting the edges?
you'd need to texture those skulls then, 3d would bust the polycount!

Hehe, the pickaxe was actually the normal grunt axe but nevermind.
Your idea about the blade is good, I thought about it myself, but the problem is that it's a plane and has only 4 edges. There are no edges in the middle to move out

Hmm, the chain was supposed to hold that skull in place, but I think I'm gonna change it to 3d cause it looks very fake right now.

or you could try out gmax!
its like 3dsmax, but free and with the exporting script by blinboy (stickied in this forum) you can export stuff really easy!

or make a new plane and unwrapp it with the texture...

I like the Stormreaver grunt. However, I dislike the weapon extremely much. I also think he should have some red (non-tc) runes on his body for more warlock feeling. Once more, good work.

I would suggest making the beard a bit longer and a bit bushier(SP?) to make it stand out a bit more cause at first I barely noticed it, and replace the skull with another bandage shoulderpad thing on the other arm but put like the Orc rune thing you see in the nelf FT campaing, cause it was made by Gul'dan and so he will look like a warrior mage of Gul'dan, he is the Chieftan of the Stormreavers anyways, cause the strap thing arcross his chest looks like it dosn't connect to anything. Also maybe take two skull staffs and criss cros em on his back? Also instaed of a dagger how about you take the head hunter spear, take off the head, and replace it with half of the shadow hunters glaive on it? And if you can put some team colered rune on the shaft to make it look like a mystical spear?

Unfortunately I can't make the beard bushy because the material is TC. Hmm, I think he would look a bit boring if he didn't have any shoulderpad on one of the shoulders..
The reason the strap looks like it isn't connected to anything is because I've only shown him from front.

As you can see the cloth goes from his left shoulder around the back and down in the strap which is bound to his belt. So it makes sense
Hmm, a spear? I dunno, perhaps. I'm not sure it's the best weapon for neither a warlock or a warrior though.

What I mean is that you make the shoulderpad like the one on his other arm and put a orcish blood rune, glow and everything, and the spear is because it has a shaft like a staff(Warlockish weapon) and a blade on top for the warriorness. It's not the ideal the weapon for a warlock or warrior but combined it seems sensible.

agreeed, i'd also like to see some fel-stormy lightnings shooting from his eyes, like the priest's eyes.

But that grunt is awesome. Try with a scepter(mace) with a skull head as a weapon, or a schythe.

Hmm, right now for some reason I can't add animations. It's bloody annoying. So a spear is scrapped seeing as it would look stupid with normal grunt attack. I'm thinking of just letting him keep the normal grunt axe. He is after all both warlock and warrior. And I think he has enough stuff on him that brings out the warlock part.
The worst part of the animation bug is that I can't add a spell animation. It's annoying as hell.

Yeah, but the roar thingy does not look very warlockish.
I'm still considering the weapon. A lot of people say a lot of different things so I don't know which one to choose.

He's already gt a couple models with skull maces/scepters/staffs he's trying to make it as different as possible. and the schythe would probobly be difficult cause
1. A schythe is a ittle long so it would probobly look like the shaft goes through and the blade misses.
2. Making the scythe would be diffacult cause there is none in game and he tries to use ingame stuff.
3. Is the simple fact that you don't see any orcs with scythes even in wow, I don't think you can even get a scythe in wow.

You can get a scythe in wow, actually, many, even lvl 60 Warlock only scythes.

and what is wrong with Scepters/maces/staffs? you even suggested a Staff/Scythe hybrid yourself. I love maces!!!

If your getting bored of the grunts than after this one make Dentarg next. I think you should start editing different models. Like the Raider for the Thunderlords for example. I know you still got 3-4 grunts left to make, so this is up to you. Just a suggestion that came to mind when I saw your grunt/warlock.

There's been alot of errors with this model tonight so I got pretty pissed at it. I'm not gonna work more on it today. I'll try to fix and release it tomorrow instead.

Err for the weapon maybe one of the curved blades of akama?
wc3 akama NOT wow akama^^ (if u dont know who i mean maybe u play dota hes gondar the bountyhunter^^) the curved blade would look like a special sword so with some glow on it it would look like an cursed blade of the warlocks^^

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am not dead. I haven't made any progress on the Stormreaver guy yet as I didn't really feel like working on him today. I have however been working on a new hero: Doomhammer.
In fact, he's almost done.

I haven't seen anything in lore or artwork to indicate that he is broader than Hellscream.

It would make more sense that Grom is actually broader than Doomhammer, seeing as he drank Mannoroths blood where Orgrim did not.

Doomhammer is a big orc, in fact he's bigger than most orcs according to some of the books I've read; The only orc described as being bigger than him is Thrall. Either way, he looks good though. I think he looks a lot like the artwork and I like how he looks more like Doomhammer than Thrall. I like the spikes; makes him look more dangerous.

How about Dentarg!

Alright, here is the controversy with Dentarg. In Warcraft 2 expansion video game he has two heads as you can see right above. However in Beyond Dark Portal book he has only one head, so I'll leave it up to you. Personally, we don't know what his one head version looks like in Beyond the Dark Portal, so I would just do the video game version.

Well, if anybody wants him to be bigger they can just scale him in the editor then.
Dentarg is a possibility. I do think I'd make him with two heads though, since I think that's cooler. I think it's stupid that they retconned it so that it was rare that ogres had two heads, seeing as in both WC2 and 3 they all had two.

Maybe a pauldron + scarf thing around his waist, with a flap between the legs? (dunno how to describe it; I think it's on the Paladin)

I just realized that Cho'Gall is not the same character as Dentarg. I thought there was just 1 "Ogre-Magi" hero.

But I don't think he should have any more clothing though. He needs some armor.

Besides, he's a caster; he shouldn't really have much in the way of armor (Archmage, Keeper of the Grove, Far Seer, etc)

Well, mainly because the particles are bugged for some reason. If I add any particles to him they show up at his death & dissipate animation as well.

I see that (wacky particles) a lot. Are you testing in-game, too? Magos isn't 100% perfect, especially when it comes to particles.

Also, you can probably go into the MDL and manually stop them.

Awesome Tauer, except the shoulder skulls are a bit repetative. IE: Cho'gall, BB Grunt etc.. would be cooler if he had some fancy arcan looking mantes.

But awesome nonetheless. Great Work.

On Orgrim, I don't really like the blade on top of the hammer and his head looks like a pyramid. He's little more than just another mount-less Thrall, but keep up the good work anyway.

About Dentarg, the tattoos on his chest don't look normal. The skulls are also a bit big, but since he's an Ogre...
Is he gonna attack with that staff? I think you should put some kind of glow into the staff's "eyes" to make it look a little more dangerous.
Good job with Dentarg's face, nonetheless. It looks just like the picture!

well, just my thoughts:
i do think that he 's good enough to release, but i have some lore problems...
First of all, isnt everywhere stated that Cho'Gall was the only ogre magician?

Secondly, which clan does he come from? There are no clan related additions...

Thirdly I think that he really needs to wear something...
Ogre's are dumb, thats why they are not ashamed of anything...
But Ogres which can do magic are more intelligent than the other, hence they'd have more brains, hence they would be ashamed to show their belly

Either way i think that the overall base unit looks way too much like an ordinary ogre to be a hero unit...


about the one and two headed thingy just look here:
