This one was for a wc3 cinematic of mine, which used wc3 doodads, I think this part came out pretty well.

Uses reflections :D

@vuongkkk

Yeah, I spend hours trying to think of stuff, to put around.
but mostly it doesn't fit with the other models.

All of these are pretty old, (The Second one is brand new) so my newer ones should have better lighting (seen as I only found out a good way to do it in the last one which is not as old as the rest but not as new as the 2nd)

@ FRENGERS

Do I know you?

But yeah, R.I.P Underground, so I'll make my stay here instead xD

Since you don't enumerate or name your maps I had to mark areas I don't like.

120490d1355379218-systemfres-terrain-art-capture.jpg
  • empty areas
  • only used one tileset
  • flat
  • Why did't you just cut it like this?

  • The marks look ridiculous but there is a lot room for improvements
  • blurry rock in the front
  • total use of two tilesets
  • flat
  • empty naked hills in the background

120489d1355379218-systemfres-terrain-art-2zrq7on.jpg
  • empty
  • flat

  • just WoW model spamming. You won't get much applause for this one on the hive
  • very flat terrain
  • total use of two tile sets
  • the unit is realy blurry

War3_2011_01_05_19_01_04_98.png
  • aaahh my eyes
  • there is no contrast
  • trees should have slightly different colors
  • the tileset and the trees do not fit together
  • emptyness in the foreground
  • the waterfall is crap :D.

All in all you have a good selection of fogs in your terrains, but there is much room for improvements. You can't rely on hq models and think the terrain would automatically look good. Good luck with improving

@vuongkkk Thanks, I really have a lot to improve on :p

@bhusta Your pictures aren't showing up, can't really see which one your commenting on.
but I agree a lot of them are flat and quite bad, I don't take terraining seriously really, and I mostly do playable terrains which look good... or better than these showy off ones.
But yeah.

@Codric Heh underground is pretty much dead, although still crawling along.
And yeah, they are sort of better... seems to be better than some active people nowadays (as to why I won)

@OffGraphic, yeah that one looks cool... but it was to easy to do tbh, but I like things that look good. I don't take stock in skill to make it without HQ stuff :S (I should probably try though)

Nearly all bad terrainers play the playable-card :D I am not saying you are bad but this isn't a valid argument
^This. I'm going to segue this into a plead to the whole bloody board. You see at the back of my critique there is always an ethos emerging. Some semantic bullshit I make up on the spot. Now I'm going with "I don't review past the pixels." If you want people to comment about your playable terrain, you damn sure better help us enough to attach gameplay footage and not anything else.

Comprende esse?
