Overview
Mainly experimenting on textures so I started to convert some models. As long as I put the effort in doing it I might as well share with you.
All models and texture will be in maximum quality possible for Warcraft 3!

and animated!
This s'pose to be in the modelling section. :O

By the way , i already had most of them , i've actually downloaded them in [other sites like "ChaosRealm.info" and "ModDB"
Since its special, it deserves a seat in the terrain section, also this site is lacking sc2 models + mine have a extra custom textures! The Sc2 original textures are too blurry for wc3 so I combine all layers; bump, specular and anything possible in one good looking textures.
I'd kiss you, if it wasn't physically impossible.
I am also adding extra stuff like volumetric grass, hope it will be well used.

Holy shit, that mineral. I think I'm in love, now where'd I put that engagement ring XD
That aside, will you be converting tiles as well?

Well you are going to be more in love with the minerals now, special when they look great.

Here I am again with some jolly news! Conversion, conversion and more conversions coming! So much that I got bored of converting sc2 models real fast, more accurately, it's making me insane so I'll stop early. This means I'll finish with it sooner. I'll do one or 2 more days of conversion and it's off to release day, of course I'll keep on feeding the pig after the release with more models.
That aside, will you be converting tiles as well?
Probably in the next release, to be honest I don't want to bother with that at the moment.

What I'll be attempting till the day of the release comes, I want to make custom cliffs and rocks that will match with the grass I was talking about, it's made with parallax and it will improve the fuzziness of the ground for every terrainer that uses it. Every texture is customize and I even added emission textures to the models so that they will glow in the dark. Now without furdear ado I present some smexy screenshots!

Ok guys, one more update for today and the last one (Duno when). Going to release the pack a lot sooner so keep your eyes peeled!!!
--------------------------
Edit 1: Sorry guys not today! There are a few more things I want to add. Till I do, enjoy the terrain test!
:goblin_yeah: I wonder If I was successful in beating the other sc2 packs on the ars with this?! :goblin_yeah:
210613-albums5309-picture78518.jpg

Edit 2: Yes it Warcraft 3!
Edit 3:Did not use shadow maps, I only used the ENB series to add to the quality. The models look exactly identical, so, you can see how important a well made diffuse texture is!

How they look like in Wc3. The emission texture is really nice, all that it needs is a glow, "ENB" added to that really nice.

Volumetric Grass Parallax
It's not new, I already made it available in the Babylon Dusk terrain. It's not very high quality but it adds a nice fuzz to the grass tile. This is a WC3 normal render!

It has many uses however the problem is that it gets blurry because I only use blend mode, especially from a side, when the view is completely horizontal it disappears so it's not recommended for that type of view. The good thing about it is that the height can easily be controlled, a relatively small height is recommended otherwise it loses its quality.

The "ENB" actually improves its quality making it look a little more solid. Some actuall grass can also be a good add as it is not a replacement for it.

Great showcase. These will definitely be useful. Some of the models can be used for futuristic as well as other map types (medieval or whatever). Mostly the rocks and trees. The tiles are really nice as well.

If I got time I'll surprise you guys with something nice today! I'm so exited and I can't belive it works, it's pure gold! Your jaws will drop after this.

Edit:
I like it a lot more than high res packs. Looks really good.
You are going to like the ruine pack a lot more with the new improvements! It was released early because of my impatiens. If only I worked a bit more on it will do from here.

That's a little bit too wild of a guess but it's close. I figured out how to use 2048px textures! Which is MFAmazing and Insane!!!

You probably remember this model, It's already released but in a crappy 512 px resolution and not very well done.

It does come at a costly price, the whole texture pack for one model is 5mb and vertices number increase do to the slicing but fo HQ it's worth it and there is no other way to do it.

Overall it's really great when I want to have baked textures like this instead of boring tiled textures.
Making more stuff but don't lose your patience, I will upload soon enough!

Well they look good, but they've lost the wc3 feel completely. The SC2 stuff still had that cartoony feel. Also the file sizes are insane.

They look good and they've lost the wc3 feel, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Also, being more of a art terrainer than playable maps terrainer, I don't really care for file-sizes.
I do love those cliffs, but Toby, I'm anxiously waiting for those Sc2 models, so could you... You know,
focus on them instead? Pretty please.

Since it's SC2 it's a given that they will lose the wc3 feel completely which I am aiming for so long. Don't think about the file size much the whole model is equal to several other variations of rocks in total so presumably they will have the same size in total and it's a lot easier for you, just need to place it anywhere. In addition you can add to the details using the small rocks and make whatever your muscle wants to. Do not fear, I'll also add the non fragmented small size models.

Gilles, I know you are probably a wc3 old school fan but I'm not going to make anything that looks like wc3/ in quality since I aim to make QH as much as possible. I might be thinking of making medieval models but that's about it.

I'd also be trying to find more ways to trick effects in wc3 but I didn't have the time so far.

Medieval stuff? I'm waiting then. I always wanted some diverse stuff to the medieval feel of the game, and it's good that ur aiming for quality:D

Almost done! I Won't wait another day so you'll be getting a early release! Keep Eyes opened, this pack is awesome!!!

Edit: Putting together the pack right now!

Final Update for this version

Added as much material as I could, thr is actual grass and another parallax but rock surface this time. It's still a test, very blurry, because I wanted to try height variation but you'll have to be satisfied at the moment.
Tested the ENB a lot recently...

Tested this, it works and it's amazing.

Added this one, and the ruins pack, to the list of useful doodads over at A guideline to Terraining. Great work Toby! <3
Also, not to press the matter, but. If you're intending to keep working on this, I'd appreciate any of the Xel Naga doodads
very much :)

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll do just that when I can. There's a lot more to come but I'm changing my priority to the ruine pack since the current version is hideous, of course I'll still toss some SC2 models in this pack from time to time until it fills for version 2 and there is also room for improvement. Actually I'm happy for doing this since I have models of my own which I can make my terrains and experiments with.

Made this for the Ruine pack but it fits her well.

Looks really great, but I'm not sure I agree with it fitting into this thread.
Obviously, it's your thread, but I think you should separate what you're making
yourself and what you're converting from Sc2, if you made these from scratch,
then I think you should keep them in the other thread.

It's just "cleaner" to keep only Sc2 converts in this thread.

Probably so, unfortunately Sc2 doesn't have any cliff models like this so I made 2 models in the previous release (the 2 big ones). Won't be making any other models since this a conversion pack but this one seems to go well with the tiles. However I won't add it here, I'll cheap it clean with sc2 converted models only accepting the 2 models already implemented, speaking of which I'll be fixing them since I noticed some flaws in the textures.
Those cliffs are just perfect. Any estimation of when u could finish them? I could really need them a map of mine.
Probably in the next release, and I'll add them to the ruine pack not here, unfortunately you'll have to wait a lot for them because my model agenda is large and wide so I suggest you keep working on your map and upgrade it with the new models when I'm done.

Or you could use ENB as well.
No seriously, that is like saying all those new games should post screens with all post-processing turned off because you don't want to be blinded by foolish special effects and want to see how bad they really are. (because when you think about it, they are just wc3 with slightly higher poly models higher res textures and foolish special effects and are not pushing anything)
You can opt to not use ENB but it is like deliberately playing games on low settings.

Post-processing is fine, if the game /itself provides them/.
Using third-party applications to make your products seem better than they actually are?
No, you don't do that. I could sell you a pig in a bag, tell it's gold and be fine with it. You'd only regret the trade afterwards.

You can use ENB if you're doing terrains, but that's not what he's doing here; he's making models.

You have permission to do so, I made them for artists, to be used by artists.

On another matter I made some experiments with starcraft 2 editor and boy is it sexy. I'll add my screenshots, have been busy and I might go on a long trip for a long time. You might possibly not hear from me for a year but it's not for sure.
Noticed that sc2 has even atlas mapping for the cliffs along with other great stuff I don't yet understand.

How starcraft 2 engine looks like. I'll show you how the rest of my stuff I made for wc3 looks in sc2 later.

No they won't be because this is a sc 2 conversion pack excepting some minor models. The models in the last pic are custom made for a fps in starcraft 2 (If I ever get to finish that in this lifetime). You'll have to go over to sc2 modding to get your hands on them once they are done!

Since there are such things as curiosities I'll show you how models look like in sc2 from my mod.

The models in the last pic are custom made for a fps in starcraft 2 (If I ever get to finish that in this lifetime). You'll have to go over to sc2 modding to get your hands on them once they are done!

How can we convince you of making it available for Warcraft 3?
