Speed mapping contest

Wasn't WC3C's one week long mapping contest a horrific failure with only 5 entries, 3 if we're only counting the playable ones?

3 is actually decent for this sort of contest. This will probably mean we don't give prizes to 2nd and 3rd place. And there are more people who usually make maps faster but not necessarily better here than at Wc3c.

Give it a shot, organise it well and get people convinced and interested in finishing and you should have a good contest.

@reza: Does it really matter? We can't assume people will cheat.

WC3C Active Members: Only 494
THW Active Members: 11,472
11,472/494 = 23

3*23 = 69

Most of that doesn't matter, because among many other factors, both sites probably have a different look on what being active entails. However, it was mainly to show that the THW has significantly more members, so you can't compare contest activity.

@OP
The contest actually sounds pretty cool. I'd definitely enter.

Just because we have more active members then WC3C doesn't mean that this contest would be any more successful then theres.

Anyway, it sounds like it might work, but one week is in my opinion a bit too short. Just adding a couple of days onto it, so somewhere between 10-14 days would be better in my opinion.

Also if there was one I would have a go at entering in it.

Maybe two weeks? Get two weekends in there. Or start it on a Saturday, and end it on a Monday, which would be ten days, including two weekends.

Relax, make sure people are prepared and that we have enough members. You don't start this contest in haste. There needs to be some sort of general awareness that the contest will start.
That's true. I think the theme will be decided by staff, and only revealed upon the release of the contest. I'll see if I can make a news announcement for this. Plan a start date, then everyone is prepared, but they can't start beforehand.

The majority of people will not finish up a map for this contest, especially if there is far to go, because they'd have to rush for a whole week. There won't be any "big" projects submitted. If they try to submit a map that they haven't touched in forever, we can check the last edited date. If it has a "last time edited" date before the contest started, the person is DQ'd.

1 week limit with theme on it? It would failed.

Which is why we need no theme.

This is not a single week, this two weekends and every day between those two. No theme is necessary or it limits options and this is not something you want. We DONT NEED big projects, just small fun maps.

You can't assume people will cheat, either. I prefer to give people a chance.

No theme seems to be the more popular choice, we'll go with that. : (
So when should we start this? I'll try and get a news announcement up for it, and maybe some announcements in chat.
