Introduction / Author's word

Seth's Reign is a single player RPG by APproject. Map's story is based on an interpretation of The Legend of Osiris myth. Map is fully voice acted by 5 voice actors, it also contain wonderful ambient egyptish music, up to 5 tracks in total. Another features of note: many sound effects, up to 300 custom units, 18 custom hero spells and a possibility of 729 spell combinations, up tp 250 custom doodads, approximately 80 custom items and 350 custom abilities.

Gameplay may be challenging as it would require a lot of insight and effort to spot various things, such as hidden artifacts. There are two difficulty levels - normal and advanced. It is rather difficult game, so even normal mode might be challenging for some players as there are no easy walkthrough selection. Advanced mode may be harder, as enemies becomes way stronger, but advanced mode offers not only difficulty increasement, but also unlocks 1/3 of possible hero spells, providing gameplay variations.

I was planning to protect it, but I decided not to, I see no point in that considering it can be unprotected anytime. Creation of this map lasted nearly 5 months. (2012-07-11 - 2012-11-30)

Map would not be updated with new stuff, I may only fix bugs and change some things that are considered unacceptable or buggy. There might be some minor bugs that might be exploited on the occasion, I am willing to fix major ones if it is discovered. Map contains a lot of leaks, but it doesn't matter, since map is Single Player and leaks are not being noticed at all. As far as I have played, I didn't face any fatal errors and I hope there will be none. There are some transmissions with considered egyptish text, it is not egyptish, it is only an interpretation of text. As map is not protected, do with it whatever you wish, but I recommend playing map absent editing and cheating, I leave it to player's conscience.

Storyline

Story is the base of Legend of Osiris myth, basically gameplay follows its algorithm.

Here it is fully written one version of this myth that I tried to follow while making the map.

Oh my brothers and my sisters, gather around me that I may tell the tale of the Before-Time, of the Golden Age when the gods walked upon the earth with us. Know then that in those ancient days, long before even the grandfather of our Pharaoh's grandfather was born, Osiris the great-grandson of Ra sat upon the throne of the gods, ruling over the living world as Ra did over the gods. He was the first Pharaoh, and his Queen, Isis, was the first Queen. They ruled for many ages together, for the world was still young and Grandmother Death was not as harsh as she is now.

His ways were just and upright, he made sure that Maat remained in balance, that the law was kept. And so Maat smiled upon the world. All peoples praised Osiris and Isis, and peace reigned over all, for this was the Golden Age.

Yet there was trouble. Proud Set, noble Set, the brother of Osiris, he who defended the Sun Boat from Apep the Destroyer, was unsettled in his heart. He coveted the throne of Osiris. He coveted Isis. He coveted the power over the living world and he desired to take it from his brother. In his dark mind he conceived of a plot to kill Osiris and take all from him. He built a box and inscribed it with wicked magic that would chain anyone who entered it from escaping.

Set took the box to the great feast of the gods. He waited until Osiris had made himself drunk on much beer, then challenged Osiris to a contest of strength. Each one in turn would enter the box, and attempt, through sheer strength, to break it open. Osiris, sure in his power yet feeble in mind because of his drink, entered the box. Set quickly poured molten lead into the box. Osiris tried to escape, but the wicked magic held him bound and he died. Set then picked up the box and hurled it into the Nile where it floated away.

Set claimed the throne of Osiris for himself and demanded that Isis be his Queen. None of the other gods dared to stand against him, for he had killed Osiris and could easily do the same to them. Great Ra turned his head aside and mourned, he did not stand against Set.

This was the dark time. Set was everything his brother was not. He was cruel and unkind, caring not for the balance of Maat, or for us, the children of the gods. War divided Egypt, and all was lawless while Set ruled. In vain our people cried to Ra, but his heart was hardened by grief, and he would not listen.

Only Isis, blessed Isis, remembered us. Only she was unafraid of Set. She searched all of the Nile for the box containing her beloved husband. Finally she found it, lodged in a tamarisk bush that had turned into a mighty tree, for the power of Osiris still was in him, though he lay dead. She tore open the box and wept over the lifeless body of Osiris. She carried the box back to Egypt and placed it in the house of the gods. She changed herself into a bird and flew about his body, singing a song of mourning. Then she perched upon him and cast a spell. The spirit of dead Osiris entered her and she did conceive and bear a son whose destiny it would be to avenge his father. She called the child Horus, and hid him on an island far away from the gaze of his uncle Set.

She then went to Thoth, wise Thoth, who knows all secrets, and implored his help. She asked him for magic that could bring Osiris back to life. Thoth, lord of knowledge, who brought himself into being by speaking his name, searched through his magic. He knew that Osiris' spirit had departed his body and was lost. To restore Osiris, Thoth had to remake him so that his spirit would recognize him and rejoin. Thoth and Isis together created the Ritual of Life, that which allows us to live forever when we die. But before Thoth could work the magic, cruel Set discovered them. He stole the body of Osiris and tore it into many pieces, scattering them throughout Egypt. He was sure that Osiris would never be reborn.

Yet Isis would not despair. She implored the help of her sister Nephthys, kind Nephthys, to guide her and help her find the pieces of Osiris. Long did they search, bringing each piece to Thoth that he might work magic upon it. When all the pieces were together, Thoth went to Anubis, lord of the dead. Anubis sewed the pieces back together, washed the entrails of Osiris, embalmed him wrapped him in linen, and cast the Ritual of Life. When Osiris' mouth was opened, his spirit reentered him and he lived again.

Yet nothing that has died, not even a god, may dwell in the land of the living. Osiris went to Duat, the abode of the dead. Anubis yielded the throne to him and he became the lord of the dead. There he stands in judgment over the souls of the dead. He commends the just to the Blessed Land, but the wicked he condemns to be devoured by Ammit.
When Set heard that Osiris lived again he was wroth, but his anger waned, for he knew that Osiris could never return to the land of the living. Without Osiris, Set believed he would sit on the throne of the gods for all time. Yet on his island, Horus, the son of Osiris and Isis, grew to manhood and strength. Set sent many serpents and demons to kill Horus, but he defeated them. When he was ready, his mother Isis gave him great magic to use against Set, and Thoth gave him a magic knife.

Horus sought out Set and challenged him for the throne. Set and Horus fought for many days, but in the end Horus defeated Set and castrated him. But Horus, merciful Horus, would not kill Set, for to spill the blood of his uncle would make him no better than he. Set maintained his claim to the throne, and Horus lay claim himself as the son of Osiris. The gods began to fight amongst another, those who supported Horus and those who supported Set. Banebdjetet leaped into the middle and demanded that the gods end this struggle peacefully or Maat would be imbalanced further. He told the gods to seek the council of Neith. Neith, warlike though wise in council, told them that Horus was the rightful heir to the throne. Horus cast Set into the darkness where he lives to this day.

And so it is that Horus watches over us while we live, and gives guidance to the Pharaoh while he lives, and his father Osiris watches over us in the next life. So it is that the gods are at peace. So it is that Set, wicked Set, eternally strives for revenge, battling Horus at every turn. When Horus wins, Maat is upheld and the world is at peace. When Set wins, the world is in turmoil. But we know that dark times do not last forever, and the bright rays of Horus will shine over us again. In the last days, Horus and Set will fight one last time for the world. Horus will defeat Set forever, and Osiris will be able to return to this world. On that day, the Day of Awakening, all the tombs shall open and the just dead shall live again as we do, and all sorrow shall pass away forever.

Thanks. :) What location are you talking about? What exact artifact? I cannot recall, can you be a little bit more specific?

I am talking about the location of the artifact that brings you back from the dead. I have found the one in the first tomb, the one on the island, the one from the fire pillars, and i am looking for the artifact that brings heroes back from the dead. I just want the general location thought :p

Great map , the story is very good , gameplay is awesome and excited , the terrain and others egyptian things are cool . Great job !

I have been playing this map for the past 2 days and it seems to me that the tablet of amun's protection doesn't work. Killing units just fine but no protection from attacks after use whatsoever.

Also I really like the mass bugs part. I involuntarily locked them out and after that it was just massacre. That is where I am right now.

As for the abilities, the fire ball is amazing. I mass kill minions and damage bosses and run at the same time.

EDIT: I am stuck with 2 jewels and no necklace.

Great map.

Some notes:
- the fps really drops a lot when the big guy in the east temple casts that blue spell
- Konruptus got bugged and don't want to "stand up". I've killed the mummies first though.

Any solution?

-I like it that the Egyptian gods were not exactly gods but more like magic wielders
-the gold icon on items looks different from that on the UI near the time
-is Khu blonde? Hmm... others have a brown-yellow hair colour as well :) Might it be a hint that there were Aryans in primitive Egypt?
-guidance eh? More like doing stuff in her place
-if the hero is already near the altar when the quest starts, he has to get out of the place and get back near it
-Centaurs in Egypt? Their death sound is that of a harpy
-the Attack-Ground command please?
-items do not stack (Scorpion Weed)?
-Find the Eastern Tomb is overwritten by Enter the Chambe of.. but the previous quest task can be seen in grey behind
-I see you like half out snake/worm enemies; it's the third map I've seen this
-enemy units don't activate traps?
-fighting Konruptus may attract the Golden Scorpion too...
-the Golden Scorpion does not pursue the hero after it casts its spell if the hero is not close enough to it
-such a lame reward for the scorpion's head; I know, gameplay
-stuff that has to do with optional quests only appears after the quests are given
-does the player really have to walk several times to Onuris and back?
-couldn't find a damn snake in the desert before the tomb; might have been that one that appeared with the scorpion after taking the fist part of the quest from Onuris; started the quest after killing everything in that desert
-I don't get what's the point of that short scene when entering the ruins where Konruptus is
-Konruptus was walking as a dead body before it teleported and its animation reseted
-should the quest with the Ancient Script be optional?
-why were there plants where the temple statue/entrance was if for it to go away, explosions were invoked?
-I suggest splitting enemy zones into fighting rings so that they can't be dragged and killed
-also, that stun the hero has the ability to do on the enemy, is quite the advantage over minions
-that green ball sure is annoying that it doesn't disappear after the tomb guardian dies
-but... I want to finish the other guardians with Osiris' arms :(
-so, Seth gave the hero another chance to reconsider instead of wasting him?
-I have no idea why you insist with voice acting
-suddenly the second desert is populated/walked by creatures when the guy with the horses has to get to the settlements :)
-why is Abukebab walking very slow? It'll take days to get back near his horses if he gets left behind due to enemy incursions
-so, the hero helps the guy to get the horses there only to lose them to come with the hero?
-because of loading the game, the big mummies might crawl instead of walk
-since you're not using the food slot for anything, you could put the played time there
-so, the hero can just trick Cheops to just open the door telling him he will search for his medallion?
-boss cinematic scenes cannot be skipped
-sometimes the skeletons that the lich summons may just run to the walls instead of attacking the hero
-it's good Abubakar can stand in a corner and wait for the right time to strike the lich
-there's should be a portal for the temple where the lich is too... some items, I had to temporarily leave there
-there's no room for Abubakar on the ship!?
-nobody's stroking; I guess the wooden sticks are ornaments
-honestly, the boat trip is boring and slow. I suggest either different camera angles from time to time or just a skip/fade in and out
-teleporting to the Temple of Ra is the only way to bring Abukebab with you
-sandstorms do not deal damage to enemy units?
-Muhkh's actions could be a bit more diverse; it mostly stands and attacks with the same stuff
-the last guardian boss battle gets a bit laggy when the fire globes cast and the whirlwind appears
-Ohkhik waits for the hero to kill the guardian so that the gates would open and comes right in...; it's a good thing you can instantly teleport to places
-the titan/giant is weaker than the second scorpion boss as his minions can be dragged out and easily killed
-I thought there'll be an interesting puzzle with the emerald containing pillars... I guess the lights pillar compensated somehow
-the skeletons with siege attack type engage the hero from behind walls...
-that tomb sure has a lot of roof
-Ankhmakis looks more like an Indian deity
-a number limit for those Shadowalkers?

That's the most I could do :D

If I recall correcty, you may skip the reward for scorpion's head, just sell it to shop and it will give you more I suppose. :) That was the trick.

Oops. Forgot the "like". The snakes/worms, only getting part of their bodies out. It would be nice if they hid from time to time.
That was the trick.

Well, you can't really compare it with this can you?
That one has feeling, intonation, character.
Oh and how many artifacts did you find? Did you finish the map?
Sadly no :( That Kali sibling of Seth, I could not get past him because of the innumerable Shadowstalkers. Tried various strategies: avoid all of them and run near the walls and only hit the boss and it worked until a point; tried attacking the boss directly to finish him off quickly but the skeletons appear quickly and that can't be done; also tried to kill the skeletons but others constantly appear (even kill some skellies, hit the boss and so on; didn't quite work).

Of course, I am no professional nor I hire any professional voice actor, this is but 0$ budget hobby game, yet it is better to have this kind of voice acting than nothing at all, it still raise the bar for an overal quality of the map, that's the best I can get for 0$ budget. I have DivineArms voice actor with me for my current project, his voice is pretty remarkable though, I hope to bring more quality with my next map.

I suppose better items would help you out. What artifacts you have right now? Perhaps I can help you to get the remaining ones.

So only one artifact. By now you should have 3 more of those. You will get one more in the upcoming areas. Here is a major hint, those are 3 areas you missed that has an artifact. To reach the island, you will need an item that allows to walk across water. To deal with the obelisks, you will need to light it 4 before any of it puts out, you will need to be fast and turn all of them in short time, so all must be buring together and then destroy an orb when it summons. And that third place in the picture is a simple one, just hit that orb up high.

I know that but I can't attack them all fast enough even if I leave them at half their life. I either need a spell that hits more than one obelisk or an item or spell to increase attack speed.
Thanks for the hints. I'll have to search for the water walking able artifact. Either it's in one of the places you've put in the picture, at some vendor or I don't know. I'll see.

So, if I get those, I could beat him?
I still got 1020 gold. Should I buy tomes?

Water item is given as a quest reward if I recall correctly, from that Ra temple. Or you get that item during the quest, it got something to do with that.

Well, you do have Finger of the Sky and Mummy, move mummy at the side, order to attack one obelisk, send a missile by Attack at another, immediately send Finger of the Sky to another and finish with Attack the last one. Try to variate. It is pretty possible.

I tried that the first time and it didn't want to attack the obelisk. I even put Abubakar to attack. Hmm... I'll try that again.

That globe up there. The hero shoots somewhere down. The origin of that globe doodad is not up there, it's somewhere on the ground or a little further up from the ground but not up there where the globe is.
It is pretty possible.
I didn't say it wasn't. I was thinking maybe some other spells would be required. By the way, did you test the game with all spells? I mean it's possible to finish the game, no matter the spells one chooses, right?

It's good you sent me. I've even found some power orbs that I've missed.

EDIT: the Mummy does not attack the obelisk.
Did it with the ultimate (Pulse of the Sun) but there's a bug with the eastern obelisk. The ultimate makes it have full HP before the fire extinguishes.
It's a different artifact, not the one to walk over water (the description doesn't say anything about that): Ra's Burststone of Overwhelming.

Did not finish the quest Unique Potion (hopefully it doesn't matter that much).

EDIT2: He's dead. I bought those attribute giving items from the guy in the Temple of Ra too.

-it's not that fun doing marathons in the desert around the oasis trying to do pest control.

-the first riddle; you need an or after mountain not a coma. Because large as a mountain, small as a pea means both things at the same time not or. I thought it was paradox

-that Thabit sure can translate anything in a matter of second. But why the hate, telling the hero to get out of his sight? He should be liking doing this stuff, translating old texts..
-shouldn't Sutekh be fought in a locked area?

Have to figure out how to open the doorway the servant was protecting. Also need the water walking artifact to get over the water in the corridor where the boulder is and get to the small patch of land in the oasis.

Yeah, it shoots down, because origin of the Destructible is at ground, I just used Ctrl + Up to rise it from the ground level, it should not matter though, it is in the sky just to make it hard to notice.

I did not test it myself with all spell combinations, ones might be tougher, other ones easier, but I tried to balance those spells as good as I could, people did not complain about spell combinations either, so I guess it should be ok.

There are multiple riddles in case you can't get one out, so you can change if you get stuck.

Just some hate, you know, a character. :)

Yeah you need to finish quest from the Temple of Ra priest for that water walk item, but if he is dead, I don't think you will get it done though.

Oh I was wrong, map is quite old so I don't remember things correctly, I checked. That item is dropped by destroying another Orb up in the sky, that orb is placed on a statue holding sword up high. It is placed in that fortress in north from the Temple of Ra. Item is called Necklace of Soul Release, maybe you have it already?

I'll check it out. You mean the temple with the titan? I don't think I hit that orb.

By the way, this reminded me of Soul Reaver (Legacy of Kain series). Have you played it? Oh, and, how about the Prince of Persia series? Great inspiration it would be!
I suggest you make the camera zoom out a little when battling bosses that cover the screen :D

-why did you turn many kings and queens of Egypt into demonic demigods?
-it would be nice to have a stash as one can forget where artifacts are left

-units not really following orders cause they're too many in the village; riders just standing to be slaughtered at some point

Why the hell there's Horus in last battle? Just to make it difficult? This piece of uselessness do nothing and just dies under the tons of mobs he can't handle. Why? I dropped Seth to 2k hp and save right before the death of Horus. That was a quicksave and the only one save that i had. I will assume that I won. In any case, it was a nice map, thank you.

I've been playing and enjoying this game for a few hours now.

I like the fact that you get to pick your own powers but in that there is a problem. for instance boss battles are so hard because I haven't picked any summon units to distract the boss. I have a stunning ability but it lasts 1 second on heroes which isn't enough to out run power moves. meaning I usually end up.dead with no way to over come the problem. resulting in me quitting the game because there is no strategy to use by that point to over come the situation.

the voice acting is.... terrible? that is a pretty evil thing to say considering most warcraft maps don't have voice actors... but you can really hear the amateur over acting acting. where instead of simply being the character and expressing events like you lived them, they are acting as if they are the voice of the character and phantom emotions that no one really has because they are pretending to have them.

game play is ok no complaints about terrain and models. I really like the snakes, I have never seen that before.

oh I have another complaint but it may be my imagination. the story line is super sexist. lol only one dominating sex in a civilisation where both sexes were treated as equals. pharaohs can be both male and female. there was never a queen or king reference they were just both pharaohs. in this game there are no female fighters or spell casters. even when it comes to receiving power from the gods, you never get a blessing from a goddess.

hmmm what else... I suppose the game could have had a wider range of items and the ability to lay down traps. I like the fact that the enemy follows you into town, I just wish there was a way to take advantage of that. since you don't level up from kills it kinda takes the fun out of killing things.

over all it is an ok game. good for killing time but not something you will remember tomorrow

Well you have to consider the fact this map was made years ago and is, correct me if I'm mistaken, the first voice-acted map by APproject. The voice acting is good enough in my opinion for this map, which can be considered a huge project already.

when it comes to critique and entertainment value, it doesn't much matter why something sucks

still it is worth your time just not very memorable

AP, I will say 2 things.
1. Your map is EXCELLENT. It's a bit hard (I always forgot to save before fighting, and I die), but I like It.
2. Your UI is... Perfect. Just perfect. i really love the egypt mytology, and I am now creating a race with the egypt them. Can I take your UI? I can give credits to anyone, but I really need this awesome UI.
Edit: I need to edit this or it will be double post.
I was starting the game, and after the choice of skills, the game stopped and I had to restart the computer.
I played this map several times and it never happened. There is no difference between what I did this time and other times, even though this is the first time I start in advanced difficulty.
Edit 2: I started again, but it stopped in the initial cinematic. First, the image slowed down. After, the screen was dyed bright violet while the music continued to sound. Noticing that it would not work, I had to force the computer to shut down.

Next time try Alt+F4 to shut down the game, or if it freeze, you can try Ctrl+Alt+Delete and End Task War3.exe. If those doesn't help, well, only option is to shut down.

It can be related with the version of my wc3. I use 1.26b, but this never happened.
I directly used ctrl+Alt+Delate. It's almost the first time that does not work

Dude... I do not have time to wander around trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Can't you at least give us some clues in the quest log as to where ABOUTS she is?!

Friend, it's a rpg. Something difficult would be that it was not near the town. In all the rest of the map there are too powerful units for your character, so it is obvious that Isis is not there. In fact, all you have to do is follow the path, cross the bridge, and follow the fork to the north

Intersting map, although the fact that u die once and its game over its kinda annoying a good heads up would be good before important moments like boss fights.

Hey, i really enjoy ur map, but i encountered a problem. When i found the leg from Osiris and came back to Isis and approach der Altar. I can then choose a new skill, but after i research one nothing happens. i also can research the other one (playing on normal) but nothing happens and im stuck

Very specific map in my opinion. Once i find out in maps fixed\premade heroes to play i quit. I firmly count maps should games must have variation of heroes to choose from. 4/5

Maps do not have any must-have option, there is one main character and I don't find any logic in needing to choose a hero, this is not a competitive DotA. Do you want a different model, a name, ranged/melee or spells? Well, you get to choose spells. Any map is specific, because author gets to offer heroes to choose from and it is fixed all the time, even in maps like DotA (that way game is balanced), so players end up with false sense of choice. It is weird you do not get to choose different hero instead of Arthas in the main WC3 questline. :) Thanks for playing.

Hi APproject, this map is really good for the one who like adventure& rpg map. But now I am stucking at the worset quest, as I dont know how to translate the scroll. I saw in other comment that you mentioned jewel of conjugation? Can you tell me how to obtain it or give me a hint to find the way to translate the scroll? Thank so much!
