SC 2 Mod: Warcraft III Armies Of Azeroth

Hello everyone.

I couldn't really find a similar post to this so I'm sharing this.
It looks really beautiful and I hope that they will finish this project.

It's a remake of Warcraft III and still WIP but as far as we can see it looks similar and good.

Basically this is what many Warcraft III fans expect of Blizzard, to create a HD version or to get a next Warcraft version in line. This sounds unrealistic but for this project we might find some hope after all.

What the heck is with the crappy UI? It looks like its ported straight from WC3... Try using the SC2 UI until you get something better as at least my eyes will not bleed.

How are you doing the hero skills so they do not bug? I recently came across an exploit with hero skills that allows you to learn impossible skill levels if the unit gets paused and you queue up the learn orders.

Pretty much not my mod DSG if you paid attention .. ;-).
I just wanted to share it because it has potential.

And it is like Rui said. Let's hope this project will get finished since many projects get the end line at all. Their video however, already has a great amount of viewers and like. Which is very good of course.
Their facebook also reached almost 8000 likes.
So yeh.

I saw this over on mmo-champ. It seems very promising compared to most of the wc3 mods I've seen. I think it looks great, and I think the UI looks great (at least the organization of it). I would definitely download sc2 starter just to try it out, when it is ready.

I was actually thinking of porting my mod wc2.5 to the sc2 engine after i heard they will release all wc3 assets soon. Is it possible to add naval battles in the sc2 engine?

Yes and no. There is no concept of "water pathing" however some people have simulated it reasonably well.

I honestly doubt it because most of the assets are just converted wc3 models with relativly low quality. An option would be to use the low quality models as placeholders though

I was so excited until the point I realized they ported most of the low quality wc3 models xD. The town hall and peasants of this mod look better.

Any insight into their process of model development? Are they using wc3's models as basis and then improving from there or do they work from pure scratch?

I am not 100% sure about that.
Their website is in Russian.. Which is a bit troublesome for me

Somehow I don't quite like the last 2 screenshots, especially the middle one it's not easy to tell which units are what. I'm guessing the gray units are headhunters, but they look more like gnolls. Blademaster's blade is way too large maybe? =P

Well there's always a possibility that some of the models may be ported and adapted for Galaxy Editor, it wouldn't be for the first time.
...or some could be placeholders for the time being.

Can anyone ever mess with the lighting so it doesn't look like they're on the moon anymore. Also is there anyway possible to get the wc3 assets? I'm guessing people can't upload the new assets they've downloaded from ptr.

Yes you can set the lighting to whatever you want. This includes shadow direction, amount of bloom, emissive glow etc.

Also is there anyway possible to get the wc3 assets?

At the moment it is impossible to get them. The StarCraft II Public Test Realm has been shut down due to a current lack of resources. It could be down for any length of time from weeks to forever.

I'm guessing people can't upload the new assets they've downloaded from ptr.

Why bother seeing how after the test phase is complete and the patch released the assets will be part of StarCraft II so available to everyone.

It is simply amazing. Russians are so damn dedicated to their projects.

The units move a bit slowly though. Other than that, it is incredible! I can't believe how much progress they've gotten already, and I'm happy to see that sites like mmo-champ are showcasing their work.

Great videos, I can hardly believe they're pulling this off. Are any of those models the wc3 ports? The trolls seemed genuine, but the ogre magi looked a bit wc3ish.

They'll also need to get the dimensions right. Nevertheless, awesome job.
