Note that this argument goes both ways. Economists use it to say stuff like "If those big greedy companies/states didn't try to use nuclear power, then we could develop better power sources!"

Pretty much anything that doesn't create highly dangerous waste.

That highly dangerous waste is in tiny amounts. Hunterston alone could power 45% of the homes in Scotland. Without fission you can't get fusion. Nuclear power is paving the way for better power sources.

Nuclear fusion is different from fission and fission is not required for fusion. Fusion is combining atoms while fission is splitting them apart.

You could do that but like most things there are more than one way. The one you mention seems to be the most popular with that Russian reactor using it. One problem with it though is random heat discharges not too dissimilar to solar flares.

Even with fission it would still be fairly random, as one cannot easily control the movement of atoms at the quantum level. And that slight movement has a large impact on the release of energy.

True but the fission start also allows a bigger release of energy from the start. There haven't been a lot of tests on this though so I can only hypothesise but I'm sure we'll get fusion in the foreseeable future.

I think the solution is to build a giant copper heatsink that will transfer heat from earth to space. Obviously if the sun shined on to it, it would do the opposite, so we will also build rails around the earth so it can move, and always stay on the dark side of the earth, transferring heat away.

Cold fusion is fantasy at this point, wouldn't recommend anyone to rely on it.

But I agree, nuclear is the way to go, though it's sad how there are many misconceptions about its safety.
