So I was browsing the forums and found a couple of unsavory replies to a request thread:

Are you sure you're to dumb or are you just to lazy?
And after being corrected by a mod:

right, sorry, forgot the new rules....
Shouldn't you be respectful to others regardless of whether or not a rules tells you to be? Not all of us have the time or patients to create models and since

a) Modelers would like to see their creations used in maps.
b) Custom models add to the overall quality of the map.

wouldn't it be wise for mappers to ask modelers to create models for them?

The same thing can be applied to icons, skins, loading screen artwork, etc. Making a map is hard enough and a game shouldn't become an occupation, so why are people who request resources that they need done for a project often regarded as lazy?

Discus.

I agree with you, BUT YOU MUST PUT EFFORT INTO ATTEMPTING before dumping it onto someone else. =/

Most of the requesters think of the modelers here as vending machines and request like, over 20 models and say its easy or they don't even attempt or search for the models.

Trust me,if mappers started trying out modeling, i'm very sure a bunch would love it.

But then people complain when the requests dont get answered and they blame the modelers, trust me, its not respectful to us at all and the modelers and such arnt always daisy's nor are the requesters.... =/

EDIT: and yes, as happy said, alot or afew of the requesters suddenly get an idea of making a pokemon map and request all the pokemon (iv seen it done before =_=). Its just..stupid. If people are going to request, they must at least:
1)Describe their project and their progress.
2)Describe the models in which they need.(while not being ridiculous)
3)At least attempt or give a valid reason rather than they dont want to make the models.
4)Be kind and dont "expect" or "demand"

EDIT2: And sorry if im sounding harsh and directing this all at requesters, im aware i can be a selfish pig bitch at times.

well, i need bunch of models but i dont request them. do you know why? cause:
1. i am not sure if im gonna finish that campaign
2. it is still in low alpha stage
3. there's always way to avoid custom model by using something else for awhile
4. i dont have forum and am not sure if im gonna have it
5. i got modeling programs and know some about modeling and mdl structure. maybe my skills will improve enough to make what i need near end of campaign

Some people have very little artistic talent and would require a month for what an skilled and talented artist would do in a couple of hour. Some people have no space imagination (or whatever is called this), and they are lost when they try modelling. Others cannot make a skin texture properly (like me) without spending a lot of time and ending only with poor result.

For those people without notable talent this will be just a waste of time, which could be better spent on other things. So it is not laziness, if a mapper requests a resource, it is better that he spends his time to enhance his map(s) and searching for bugs than to put lot of effort for things with poor result plus having less time looking over his map(s).

Even for experienced people, it is still a time consuming task.

Respect the fact that people have other things to do in a map, and would like professional looking resources. As long as they don't go about the request in a derogatory or disrespectful way, just be kind and helpful.

I mean, put yourself in their situation.... if you are curious about finding a model you would like, and ten people reply saying "DO T URSLEF LAZy LOSER," how would you feel?
