Problems with Potraits

When I play Starcraft 2 beta, my potraits for units are extremely hazy, like they're covered by a reddish fog. This is extremely annoying, and I can't see the potraits clearly. However, in 2d potraits, the potraits are normal and can be seen clearly. Is there any way to fix this?
 
I tend to see this happen with some specific portraits, especially like the Thor, after a heavy, graphics-intensive gaming session (or just playing for too long). It only happens on some cards. Give your card time to cool down, then try playing.
 
Well, some cards don't have good fans; that's why it only happens in graphics cards with bad ones. Well, usually. Be sure your computer is well ventilated. Mine personally has four high powered fans and a GeForce 9400GT. I can run almost all Ultra (used to at least; damned DirectX sucks on Linux) with no graphical blurs (perhaps a tidbit of lag but meh) for hours on end. In fact, I once played for 10 hours on this rig and did not once see blurs.
 
DSG, no, but Wine has a small implementation of it. It has to do until OpenGL Windows support comes out with release. The experiences I talk about are from my experience with XP, before it died.
 
It is because linux can not use OpenGL to emulate DX10 well due to DX10 being a total rewrite over DX9 to add features whereas OpenGL was extended to use the new hardware (so it does so less efficently or with lacking support). The end result is you can not link DX10 calls to OpenGL calls where as DX9 and OpenGL are still simlar enough that you can sort of do that.
 
Yeah. That's why it hardly works; Wine uses a DX9 implementation. SC2 supports DX9, DX10, and OpenGL, if I'm not mistaken.
 
im using a windows vista. just got a new card a few weeks ago. its a GeForce 9600 GT.

i still have the potrait problem though. shaders = fail. i want the shaders to be on medium, but also want decent looking potraits that dont need to be 2d. any help?
 
Turn shaders to medium. Turn down terrain to medium, lighting to low, and shadows to medium, or if it's too terrible looking, high, but not very high. Then, you should be able to turn portraits to 3D without TOO much lag. Be sure when running SC2 that there is plenty of RAM available. Also, if it's a 1GB card, turn textures to the second highest, so you only use 3/4 of what's available. It tends to speed things up slightly. Also, be sure to turn down antialiasing!

EDIT: Here's a picture of my settings, back when I was using XP. Note I can't get very good now with those settings, because I'm on Linux, but they should work fine for Vista.
