I can confirm that some campaigns that are updated using the latest patch of WE might not work with older patches. Notable examples were the ones made by MedMapGuy and OutsiderXE.All campaigns translated by tulee are not compatible with older patches
What Luashine said, plus:I'm sorry if this is a necropost, but I am trying to find out how or where I can get Warcraft 3 classic CD keys so I can use this version of the game and avoid Reforged as much as possible. Has this been answered already? I apologize if so, just trying to find some information.
Damn. So the only way to get a legitimate copy of 1.31 these days is to hope to god someone has a CD and unused key that they're selling on ebay or something?Even Hive doesn't allow some kind of piracy. That said, having a legitimate copy of the game is the best shot.
The patch notes for 1.31 say "last patch before Reforged," it's literally the prepatch made to have Reforged modding support before they added Reforged graphics. If you want to "avoid Reforged as much as possible," then I wouldn't personally use 1.31.a legitimate copy of 1.31
Installing the game through CD is not necessary. It's an old school way. You'll just need an unused (and legit) key and download the game from this thread. The only catch is that you can't play online with Battle.net service, but offline play like LAN can.Damn. Thanks for your responses, this has been very helpful!Installing the game through CD is not necessary. It's an old school way. I was literally aware about my previous posts getting edited for piracy-related contents. Also, please refrain from Retera's post above.
WC3 saves are NOT backwards compatible. The previous campaign progress, however, can be transferred, apparently.Sorry if this question has already been asked, but is there a way to transfer progress and saves to this version from another or no? It is not really a big problem for me if it is not but I am curious.
I don't know if there's a way to get those missing files.
I think now that the old WC3 CD keys don't work, it makes the older versions of the game Abandonware.
I'm not an expert on this subject so don't quote me on that, but I talked to DesignerDave and he thinks they might technically qualify now.
1.27 is the latest one that still requires an old WC3 CD keys (as if it's an offline installer), and it's still available on Battle.net. I don't know if older versions of this game is abandonware, considering the fact Blizzard no longer providing any kind of installers for older versions of WC3 in favor of Reforged, and that old keys are obsolete. Additionally, 1.27 is the latest patch that uses original dubbing all in the right places (1.28-1.31 also have the old voices, though some of them weren't 100% working or misplaced).I think now that the old WC3 CD keys don't work, it makes the older versions of the game Abandonware.
So, 1.31 versions do work over Hamachi/Radmin, but downloading maps ingame over LAN doesn't.Hi, I'm trying to install 1.31.1. Specifically, I want to play via fake LAN with my brother who has 1.31.1.1.12173 ptr. My two questions are:
• There seems to be mixed information in this thread about whether the version here works with LAN or simulated LAN like Hamachi/Radmin/Game Ranger - does anyone know for sure whether it works with any of those?
• Is the version in this thread compatible with my brother's version such that we can play melee via LAN together? If not, is there a way I can install his exact version using his files and my own CD key? If so, what files exactly do I need to get from him, and (if the installation process differs from what's outlined in this thread) what do I do with those files?
Awesome! Thank you. So as long as we share map files with each other some other way beforehand and play exclusively on those, LAN will work? So, 1.31 versions do work over Hamachi/Radmin, but downloading maps ingame over LAN doesn't.
As for the version in this thread being compatible - if you've already got his version, just copy-paste the whole Warcraft III folder onto your PC and it'll work (even using your CD-key if it's already been put in before)
The game will either read the cd key already stored in c:\programdata or it will show its own popup for this, the modern versions improved on the flow thereAwesome! Thank you. So as long as we share map files with each other some other way beforehand and play exclusively on those, LAN will work?
Also, when I copy his entire folder onto my PC, I'll have to somehow tell it my CD key (even if I already have another version like 1.30.4 installed with my key in a different folder), right? Do I need to find/use some kind of key changer tool to do that?
Gotcha - so there's no chance I'll accidentally copy my brother's key over, because it's stored in a different location from the game files in the first place? The game will either read the cd key already stored in c:\programdata or it will show its own popup for this, the modern versions improved on the flow there
Correct, yea, Blizzard stopped storing the cd-key in game data a while agoGotcha - so there's no chance I'll accidentally copy my brother's key over, because it's stored in a different location from the game files in the first place?
Czech dubbing for Warcraft III has been removed since 1.28 iirc.Could I somehow get this version running with Czech voice acting?
Do you have a version with Czech localization? You need to override sound files (and probably campaign maps too) using "Allow Local Files".Could I somehow get this version running with Czech voice acting?
I do have a 1.27 Czech install that I've gotten years ago from god knows where, but I'm not sure how I would go about moving the czech language files from it to the 1.31 install. And whether they'd even be compatible.Do you have a version with Czech localization? You need to override sound files (and probably campaign maps too) using "Allow Local Files".
I would be interested to have Czech v1.0 btw.
The main purpose of the "disabled" Battle.net button was to not accidentally update your game by connecting through the official server. Retera has a better point in one of his post above since the devs are rushing for the Reforged release by the time 1.31 came out. Also, if you have the Battle.net app installed, along with the latest Reforged patch, you will most likely have a notification about the Reforged update ("An update is available") when starting the game. You can simply ignore this update notification by clicking "No", and making sure your Battle.net app recognized your Reforged installation as the legit ones instead of your 1.31 installation. It's been a long time I have posted on this forum but I have two questions.
1. Did 1.31.1 just disable the battle.net button with a simple switch or did they actually tear out the code? If former, is there an enablement patch available anywhere?
2. if the latter, I assume the next best thing would be to use 1.29.2?
Exactly. However, the 3rd party Battle.net servers will only work on older patches, and not 1.31. Most of them use 1.26, particularly those for DOTA games (Eurobattle.net, ICCUP, etc.) ENT (WC3Connect) uses 1.30.1, but only has LAN functionality (not Battle.net) as PvPGN was killed since 1.28.5, if I'm not mistaken. When Blizzard prepared for the Reforged release starting on 1.30.2, they killed all host bots."Official" ones did but there are others![]()
