NOW SUPPORTS AI!!!



A map based on Mad Balls Arena. I made it for a comp on our local server. The idea of the map is to pickup items known as orbs and throw them at enemies. These orbs make use of custom coded physics and return to item form after dealing damage or coming to a stop.

Special Thanks to CraZy.FroG for both his ideas and since this map is based on his map Mad Balls Arena.


Features



AI
Orb Craft contains AI to test your skills.

Orb Based Combat
Fight in a team by throwing orbs at one another. Orb Craft currently contains 10 different orb: Acid, Arcana, Blood, Darkness, Fire, Force, Frost, Holy, Lightning, Void and Water each with its own effects, mass and friction. There is now also 7 recipe orbs (Clockwork, Glaive, Winter, Phoenix, Nature, Rune and Toxic)

Spells
Orb Craft also contains a selection of spells that uses the physics engine in the map. It currently has 22 spells.

Heroes
You can now select an hero as well, each with its own play style.

Large Selection of Items
Orb Craft currently has 10 permanent items and 10 charged items.

Fast Action
My goal with Orb Craft has always been to make it a fast game and I intend to keep it that way, by making it a key crunching race to the orbs with dodge and throw style combat. The spells only serve as a change of pace.

Various Game modes
Orb Craft currently has 4 games modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Harbinger (bring the Orb of Destruction to the enemy base to score a point) and King of the Hill (Gain points while standing on a elevated area.

Ok so i checked this ver and
-you really could add DISBTN to orb of force
-you could pan camera for players
-I found something like that: when you use orb of force and stand close to target, sometimes there is spawning second orb
But really nice map and idea

Orb of Water: Slows units in AoE and the slow spreads to nearby units (within 150, including allies)

New idea for orb of water:
When the orb explodes, it reduces all nearby enemies armor. The effects have a chance to "bounce" to the next hero, reducing his armor as well

Orb of Fire deals DPS, don't know if it's meant be like this but I seem to recall that you said it didn't :|

Some Orb ideas:

Orb of Solitude:
Makes nearby allies invisible for a short amount of time (like 5sec)

Orb of Night:
(SFX: makes it night)
Increases all affected units' mana regen by 200% but gives negative HP regen (5/sec) for a short amount of time (like 5/8sec)

Vortex Orb:
Sucks all nearby units to the vortex (area of impact[aoi])
The units that get sucked in completely gets teleported to random points in the map.

Golden Orb:
Drops X amount of gold from target (EDIT)

Shattering Orb:
Makes targets hit drop all orbs instantly.

Awesome...Love your ideas....I thought...Maybe Orb of Force should cause the player to drop a random orb....and your Golden Orb should rather cause the hero to drop 20 gold pieces...vortex orb is a great idea but kindof imba...Actually all your ideas are good, the only problem is I'm running out of both orb models and space in my Orb Vault...

Make 2 vaults :), Request models? Idk, Im fairly new here lol.

Orb of Ale:
Causes the target to get drunk and run around in a random direction for x amount of seconds

Orb of Spread? (Diff Name)
Shoots 3 orbs in a spread shot, each orb is 1/3 the strength of a force orb, just no added spells

Orb of Teleport:
Teleports the caster to the specified place where the orb stops.

Orb of Goblins:
Orb that explodes with 20 DMG in target aoe(120), then shoots 2 rockets that deal x damage to nearest enemy targets?

Orb of Nature:
Entangling Roots x/DPS

I haven't played since 0.0.3, so I don't know what orbs you have added, just some of my ideas :D

Maybe like lower the Mana costs for some spells.
'cause I know I've played casted a spell, then said where
did all my mana go? :p

Also maybe adding a couple of modes like how many kills it takes
to win, would be a good idea, cause I really enjoy playing this game
and like, 32 kills comes really fast.

I think a good idea too would be so that if a orb has been dropped
after casting or has been cast, after its done it goes back
to its original spawn point, because when I kill someone
I just go up to the orbs and pick the same ones back up again.
(Only in deathmatch though) I just figured out if you did that
in king of the hill, that would be pretty cheap lol

The thunder orb, is OP you cast one and if you dont get out of the
way, you'll die in a couple of seconds, maybe make it so it only
shoots a couple of times, not until the person is dead.

I dont have any ideas for items, cause I never play with
them so I have no idea which items you already have haha :p

Anyway yeah, those are a couple of my suggestions
if i think of more ill tell you ;)

EDIT: New Idea
Recipes, combine multiple items to create a better one.

Only 1 item idea for this though..
War Horn + 2xBoots of Speed = Boots of War
+Increase Speed 3x What 1 boots of speed would give you
+Aura increases Allies MS by 1.5x what boots of speed would give you.
+Skill: Shockwave Bash (Sends a shockwave in a line that stuns units?)

Regular Item:
Just like Magic Shield where it blocks one negative spell
every 40 secs or whatever
maybe instead of the repel spell
also have an item that repels
1 orb shot at him every 30 secs
or 3-4 orbs cause I know I shoot like
3 orbs at a time hahah.

I have all these ideas the thing is though, I have no idea how to make any of this haha, Im just telling you what comes to mind.

New update with new game mode...see changlog for more info...

Version 0.0.9 will include terrain updates of my new death match arena as well as some other updates. Might finally cause orb of force to knockback.

I like that you can choose an amount,
but like i said maybe a custom amount
that you can define by typing -score xx or -kills xx
or even xxx 100 being the highest? :D

I like the new deathmatch.

I threw a orb of light out of the arena
and it gave me a orb of blood :O

Thanks I'll fix the orb of light thing straight away...

I'll add a command -score xxx to change the score needed, but I'll keep the dialog since its user friendly. But I'm considering to remove the win/defeat and only make it a message and then you will be able to type -re to start a new round...

Yeah the restart would be a good idea,
but if you make a good one, I've noticed
that on other maps if you restart a lot
it usually starts lagging after a while.

This could probably be one of my favorite maps cause I own so muchh ;) haha

The lagging is due to memory leaks building up, so a map has to be 100% leakless if you want to restart a lot. I need suggestions for my new game mode:

Theres a orb in the middle of the map (model: eye of sargares) and you gain a point by bringing it to the enemy base. While carying the orb you have your ms reduced by 25% and armor by 5.

Also comments/suggestions how to improve this game mode....

Edit: I'm 90% done with the game mode and it will be released tomorrow. Other updates is that the score dialog now has 4 buttons....so the possible maximum score of all game types went increased. I also fixed blink exploits and the holy orb bug....

Sorry I changed the name as was suggested to Orb Craft.

Also I have been considering to add a 1 sec cooldown on orbs to prevent spamming which tends to lag.

The idea of recipes could be taken one step futher by adding an group of spells, which is made with varios spells + orbs?

Any ideas anyone...I lost my best idea giver...CraZy.FroG...and now I don't know what I want to add next? People suggested that orbs should merge or you should be able to craft orbs allowing you access to an entire new selection of orbs....? any ideas...

Also I need ideas for my permenant items

oh and btw...why does every kind of this map(those action arena stuff) have only a bloodmage model? =(

maybe u could add some choosable heroes...with different stats at the beginning
like...

archmage: slightly more movementspeed but slightly lesser mana
ogre magi: much more hp but lesser movementspeed than average
jaina: much more mana but lesser hp

and so on...

How about this:

each hero starts with a preset ability, as well as the ability to merge the orbs in the two topmost inventory slots into something new, for instance jaina would be able to create a more powerfull snow orb that slows in an aoe as well as deal damage in an aoe...or something like that.

ye that would admit the mapname at least
well there could be even be several recipes to fuse 2 or 3 orbs into 1 special one
this would raise the gameplay-fun dramatically

Wh1pl4sh...You always suggest my ideas online later the day I told it to you...:p...The custom orb idea is a good one...I already started with a hero system yesterday and should be able to update soon...

(Note both teams can chose the same heroes but the models are different for the two teams)

Heroes:

Ranger
Ability: Arcane Arrow
Deals damage and burns mana
Agility Focused

Fighter
Ability: Whirlwind Attack
Deals damage in a line, slicing units while moving.
Strength Focused

Wizard
Ability: Blizzard
Deals damage over time in target area NON-CHANNEL!
Intelligence Focussed

Rogue
Ability: Stealth
Become invisible over 1.5 seconds
Highly focused on agility.



Currently you have a few new recipe orbs. Recipe orbs don't leave an orb behind where they exploded but instead create their components at random points on the map again.

Orb of Winter:
Orb of Force
Orb of Winter x2

Creates an array of 20 ice shards slowing and dealing damage apon impact

Clockwork Orb

Orb of Force
Orb of Fire x2

Creates a massive exposion igniting target area.

Glave

Orb of Force x2
Orb of Blood

Deals lots of damage and bleeds target. If it miss it returns to the caster
