Greetings,

I'm the developer of Warcraft Gaming Network which has just been openly released for beta testing and am inviting you to participate.

It's been quite a small operation thus far --just myself and a small group of internal beta testers-- and has now reached a point where we can begin introducing the platform to the loyal (albeit, small) remaining Warcraft III community.

You can read more about the project and download the client software on the website.

Note: At present the network is somewhat barren given it has only just been released and encourage you to invite your friends to help us populate the community and spread the word.

Must've got the syntax wrong on the link.

A list of current features are available on the website. For the lazy:

Some notable features currently implemented are:

Integrated cheat-detection system
Enables game hosts to detect the presence of players using third-party utilities (e.g, Maphack)
Game version switching
Simply select your preferred Warcraft patch version (e.g, 1.24e) and WGN will download and install it.
Ban listing
Prohibit certain players from joining games that you host
Automatic NAT configuration
WGN will automatically configure your router/modem to enable you to host games

Correct.

Originally it was developed for a community of Garena players as Garena discontinued support for "LAN" (which meant, War3)

As Garena users generally do not generally have legitimate copies of the game they were unable to migrate to Battle.net and this is when WGN was born.

Development was predicted to be a week, however, recognizing the many nuances associated with Garena, more features were added (e.g, cheat detection) and WGN therefor became a unique platform.

Eventually WGN will be integrated into a larger Warcraft III platform I've been working on for a few years already which is much greater in scope.

In the end of garena's lifespam it was riddled with empty bothosted games. Since LAN only allows 20 games at a time(or was the limit from garena?), then this pretty much suffocated every room that had over 100 people and allowed bots.

Do you have anything to fix this?

Thanks for the service, for sure will keep a bookmark of it. Xonoks point is important I think. Bnet was killed by the bots (and lazy Blizzard ofc). The last time I've been in ggc was some years ago but it seems it also was partially killed by bots?
Imo it would be best to create rooms where hostbots are not allowed (might be hard though), its so demotivating to see 100 open games and you know nobody will ever join.

The 20 game limit is an arbitrary restriction of Warcraft.

Problems with list spam shouldn't be an issue, as for one, as WGN itself displays a game list it would be trivial to implement a feature to allow users to filter games and in turn filter what games are displayed in Warcraft.

Also, unlike Garena which is a simple VLAN, WGN only has the appearance of one -- there is no peer-to-peer communication outside of actual gameplay, the WGN server maintains and publishes the game list (and associated metadata) to clients. Therefor, any issues with the game list being abused could be solved with relative ease server-side (as Blizzard could've done)

As mentioned above, eventually WGN will move towards a different model which does not involve "game lists".
