Greetings, members of the Hive!

In an effort to address the growing problem of disproportionate punishments that have been causing problems lately, the staff has implemented a new system that we hope will encompass any and all rule breaking that may happen and specify a punishment for each rule that may be broken.

*Thanks to Rising_Dusk and zombie2279 for coming up with the idea of a table to standardize things.

1. The RED text is the length of the INFRACTION for the punishment.
2. The GREEN text is any additional action on the part of the moderator.

The punishment table with all of the possible problems and resolutions can be viewed here:

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/apps.php?p=pages&f=punishments

Thank you!

What exactly is meant by 2 x 6 months - Resource Rejected. Is it that it is either 6 or 12 months depending on the severity?

Why just not making it perm ban? It's not as if someone will actually return after 6 months of ban.

Other then that I find it rather strict, maybe a bit too much, but maybe what the Hive needs right now.

Finally a good set of standards staff can follow.

I have a questions though. Will past punishments be gotten rid of now that there is a new system?

Like say someone did something wrong and got an infraction forever. But with this new "chart" there are time limits. Would that person with the infraction forever get their infraction removed after the time limit for that specific "wrong doing"? Or would that stay there forever?

I would doubt it gets removed, I'm just curious. Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere.

Actually, now we got this new punishment board..

I see the rate of users already dropping.

Be sure to slowly use this board and not in a flash, or people will get confused and hurt.

Not the best of motives, but helpful nonetheless. :p

I think it is nigh perfect as it stands. The exact intervals may need some fine tuning, but otherwise, it looks very good to me. This gives very good reason to having a 2-point-ban infraction system.

WHAT GREAT PUNISHMENTS.

Not only are most of them a bit too harsh on users, all of them are far too lax on the moderators! I'm sure you intend to make changes to it in the future though so maybe that makes it fair.

If we're notified, we'll be happy to adjust past infractions to fit the new system.

I'm not really sure what you mean there....

By "Linking to websites that have the capacity to break rules", does that mean if the website that's been linked, breaks the rules here, its not allowed?

how is this going to be implemented on posts and adds that are against the mentioned rules, but are made before these new punishments were created? In other words: will the new punishment system also damage people that made mistakes before this new system was implemented or not?

yours sincerely,

Syntic

Yes. Like linking to a thread on 4chan with a a porn picture in it is not allowed. For example.

Looks like this one's been fixed.

What about -rep? Where does it come into play?

EDIT: Also, a suggestion. Since this means lots of bans will be going out all over the place, maybe we could add a little timer somewhere where people could see how long a user's ban lasts for, so they don't get too worried about it.

Whoa, I hadn't realized that negrep was completely removed from the table. Now everything's an infraction. This'll sure be interesting.

No, the rep system is still here, but you may not advertise for it, like "Give me rep and I give you", or "Give me blabla..."

I'm not talking about that..What I'm saying, is when you have Reputation disabled, you no longer recieve negative rep. Everything is considered an infraction. My question is, with the new punishment system, everything is an infraction (or at least looks like that) anyway. So why don't we make it an option in the User CP to turn off Rep?

You weren't the only person who said we need rules and punishments. The admins said it themselves way before any normal user. So I really have a problem with you claiming credit for that. Especially when I brought it up also.

This came around after you were banned, and has nothing to do with chat. Please stop spamming.

Nice to know then.

All I have to say is this will only work if mods use it, which I don't see why they wouldn't. The thing is we're still (kinda) relying on judgement.

I suggest making the ban limit 3 infractions, as certain punishments are easily acquired and while they're certainly punishable, they can be quite harsh.

EDIT: Less professional opinion: This is a shitload of rules with incredibly harsh punishments. I have a feeling these could be abused and ultimately result in information control, reducing any sort of criticism to an instant infraction. This is just wrong.

EDIT2: We need a table for the chat too. Ralle just perma-banned me for saying a few lines with no offending message whatsoever. I don't want to bring my (stupid) problems to this thread, but the punishment is blown out of proportion. Why is it normal nowadays to perma-ban people from the for two lines of completely misunderstandable comments? What happened to one-day bans? One week? Seems like we can't even speak without having being punished.
