Hello, to everyone who is reading this, this is a topic meant for everyone, and everyone is allowed to propose themes, but especially people who plan to participate in this contest and are map modders.

What is this contest, you must be asking yourself now:

Well, almost two years ago, when a lot of you, including me weren't active or didn't even register here, a contest called Map Development Mini-Contest #1 was held. It was quite popular, and the idea was quite simple, yet successful:

"Each contestant must create their own unique tower defense based on a template map given."

So here we are again, two years after it, we decided to pull up another contest. What we want you to do is to propose and discuss themes for the contest, we had some ideas thought up:

  • Maze
  • AoS
  • Defense
  • TD
What do you think the best idea is and why? Feel free to post, but please keep the thread clean. Thanks.

what will the template include, in either case? terrain only/some base triggers/smth else?

PS: a 1v1 AoS sounds interesting
 
Just take any kind of "small" map type in the theme's position.
It would be quite a bad idea to revive the contest's idea with a "big" map type, just like AoS which actually needs at least 2-3 heroes per player, each with 4-5 spells, resulting in less submissions.

TD or something mini-game related (puzzle, etc as well), is the only issue i can advice you to choose.

Wouldn't that give an edge to the more experienced triggerers who would be able to make much better spells and such, my proposal would be a small TD or TW.

Why not an altered melee? Probably the kind of map which requires almost no trigger knowledge (just edit the standard units, buildings, heroes, upgrades etc)

Altered melees can also turnout really well for those with good triggering knowledge but those without it can also make awesome altered melees. Some warcraft 3 abilities has more values than Blizzard actually uses. *hint*
I was playing some altered melees from a contest from wc3c and they were rather fun, here's the submissions if anyone feels like playing them:

BTW, I'm amazed by how much using an MPQ to store info compresses the files, its almost as effective as compressing it in a .zip 0_0.

each type of map gives a someone a better chance to win, but i have a few questions, what would be the time limit, would there be more than 1 person able to work on a project. I would like a defence though, i think its seems to be customizable if that is a word.

maze doesn't sound very fun if everyone will be given same template even if makers are creative.
AoS may not be best chose for map in 1 month. Not like it's impossible but I think not many contestants could make it on time.
TD is always fun and can be creative.
Hero defense is always fun and not hard to make. even with basic abilities.

I think hero defense is a good chose.

Well, we really need post count and reputation award icons, as well as coolest avatar award... nope, we don't.
Having like 4 awards nowadays isn't as epic as it should be, as the awards are given via the smallest of contests. Also, what differs a mini-map contest from an arena map contest when both give practically the same award?

hhhmmm i would have liked to see an altered type of risk map... but i guess there might not be a big variety of maps. make sure you pick a good template make it broad so that the maps arent all alike.

Edit: can we get that template anytime soon?
