This is my first tutorial and I chose to do it on how to make a swamp.
Basics
First create a new map of any size, Tileset->Ashenvale, and start elevation 5. This will allow for a good forest look.
I chose 160x160 and Grass as base terrain.

Now, click Apply Texture->Rough Dirt and Apply Cliff->Deep Water in the terrain palette. Cover the area you want to be the swamp with deep water.

Advanced
Next, turn off Advanced->Enforce Water Height Limits. Uncheck the Apply Texture and change cliff to Same Level. Cover up the water.

Next use Apply Height->Noise all over the newly revealed rough dirt. Water will appear in lower parts.
Mess around with noise, raise, and lower for a good, swampy look.

Finishing Touches
But it appears something is missing, right? Doodads.
Trees first. Select Trees/Destructibles then Ashenvale Canopy Tree. Place a few on land around water to demonstrate that trees grow in swamps.

Hmmm.. Still a little "dead". We need some shrubs and rocks. Maybe some vines and logs.

Now for the final step: Critters. Go to Unit Palette->Neutral Passive and start placing animals like stag, raccoon, and rabbits.

Now you have a swamp! All the animals in Tileset->Ashenvale have wander, so they will actually walk and run around the swampy area. For effect, you can make a forest surrounding the swamp. That will be really effective in keeping the creatures in and making it look more "swampy" for RPGs and other maps. I hope this tutorial was helpful, although it is my first tutorial.
