Import Custom Textures and Create/Edit custom models for Newbies!

Skinning

First of all you need 2 tools
Most I use in these 2 tutorials are in THW Tool Section
First of all
http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/tools.php?id=7e7qqa
is Warcraft 3 Image Extractor(Used in Extracting BLPs and converting between BLP TGA and some other formats NOT usefull.
Gimp(Free Program similar to Photoshop and others).
You may use Similar tools but these are the ones I use

Let's Begin
1.Open up WC3 Image Extractor(or any program you use)
2.Search for the texture you need to change
3.and Click Save as... and save the file as .TGA
4.now open up Gimp(or any program you use)
5.Change everything you need,
Colour,Weapon,facial,armor etc.
(GIMP SPECIAL)after you finish use Save As...
Then at the window thhat opens click ok(or any button for saving it may have in your language)
then at the small window Uncheck RLE Compression.
6.Click the OK button and close gimp.
7.Then open again WC3 Image Extractor(or any program you use)
8.and open the Image you Saved with Gimp (or any program you use)
9.Save it as .BLP
10.Then open up WC3 World Editor
11.You must open the import manager,Import the .BLP file and click on it after importing.
NOW BE CAREFULL IF IT IS ABOUT TO WORK!
~Check use custom path.~
12.Replace the path (Default:Wc3imported\*.***) to the normal path of the texture-For Example:Abomination.blp is in Textures folder inside the .MPQ(Or Units\(race)\(Unit)\(Unit).blp)
so if you wanted to import a custom skin of the Abomination the path would be Textures\Abomination.blp
But others are not in the Textures folder.
13.After you put the Path click ok.
14.Now place the unit that uses the texture(For Example:Ranger.blp is used by the Night Elf Archer) on the map.
15.Playtest the map.If the unit does not apear corectly(the Modified texture)then check the Imported file's path.

That is the end of the Skining Tutorial

Now it is the Modeling Tutorial

Modeling

Tools:War3 Model Editor - The Hive Workshop - A Warcraft III Modding Site
Model Editor by Magos
And an outsider tool-Milkshape 3D

Let's Begin!

Let's start with some Editing first.
1.Open Model editor(I will call it Magos' in the rest of the tut)
2.Go to Windows Bar and click MPQ Browser(or Something like that...)
I want to edit the Warden's model so:I Open up Units\NightElf\HeroWarden\Herowarden.mdx(if that's the corect path...I don't have the memory of an elephant:slp:)
3.Then Save it to the Desktop using Magos' as .MDX
4.now open up milkshape 3D
(If you downloaded the FULL Milkshape 3D's installer then it might have the tool we need-Otherwise download the plugins in the site!)
5.Open up the file bar and go to Import
6.Then go to Import MDX File
Import your MDX file(In our Case Warden)
7.Then start editing it

Break time! wait 3 minutes and get back to the PC for some real working!

OK LISTEN UP!Ok read well :p same thing:p

Every Angle is a Vertex
Every Vertex is a Dot
Every 3 Vertexes are combined to form a Face(Not Real face.....just a Triangle Filled up)
Every Face has to use a texture
Every Texture must be from a Certain File
(E.g.the Warden should use the IronMaiden.bMp<<<<<BMP!not BLP!Watch out for this!)[EDIT]This is only for Milkshape 3D I think -.-
Ok now Let's Begin!

For Example i Don't like the 2 pieces of metal left and right of her head!
I use Select tool and the after i clicked ONLY at those thingies Vertexes only(ONLY! DO NOT CLICK THE ONES ATTACHED TO THE BODY!)and Delete them.
Then you may see that she doesn't have them anymore.
Now click on the Hair that fell back from her head to her Cape.Remove those.
Ok you may wanna modify the weapon or something else a little...Do it.
8.Now Save as... Name.ms3d

Ok we are done with Milkshape 3D

9.Open up Magos'
10.Then on file Section Click import.
11.Import your MS3D File.
12.ok now save it as MDX on your desktop. Now you need Textures.go to texture manager and import the normal ones the Warden uses(.blp files only!)
13.Then We have to make sure they are attached well!.Go to material manager and click on every item and make sure it has something attached, exept 1-2 that need a replaceable ID that is not part of your model but a part of what he should propably be like!(Hero Glow etc)
13BOk we are mostly done! Now we need an Animation tutorial to make the unit have moves and other things.
Now Save!
Let's pass this and make it like a statue.
Use my Tutorial above and try to make the warden like a Stone Statue(Grey,Desert yellow, etc)
Ok now you may use Wordpad for this(the Hard way) or Download from hive MDX Panther.I Will prefer to use MDX Panther.
14.Open up MDX Panther and load the .MDX
Now check the items on the list!
For the Warden there might be te IronMaiden.blp-Tga in the list.
if you decided to make a Stone Statue change this to the stone statue name(I Suggest StoneIronMaiden.blp)
the rest should be exactly with the same paths that are inside the .MPQ
Or for Customs speecify your own path.
15.After you are done Save it.Ok now we are done!
16.You might wanna do the same for the Portrait.mdx in the Warden folder.
let's start Importing!
17.Import the .mdx and the custom files the model will use
18.Now change the Custom Files(Textures) to the Ones you picked inside MDX Panther
19.Now you might be ready.(THE PORTRAIT MUST BE NAME_Portrait.mdx
NAME must be the Model File)
20.Asign the .mdx to a unit/doodad.
(doodad if you wanted to make it statue).
21.Now place the unit.
Now you are done!
22.Playtest to see if everything worked out corectly!
IF A BLACK SHADOW APEARS INSTEAD OF THE MODEL:Check your textures!
One or all Textures have a wrong path!
If WC3 Crashes:Remake the model

Thanks to Magos For his great program!

Please +Rep for me if this Tutorial Helped you!

Don't want to sound rude, but does the word screenshot exists within your vocabulary? Without screenshots, the reader has no references or examples.
I know,I just have problems coz i'm using Milkshape and thus i can't take screenshots with it....The Tools i use(+Milkshape) Save my pictures as .bmp and thus I can't upload them....unless THW allows .bmp Pictures....
